We contracted with Blue Haven to build a free form pool for us last spring. The sales person (John Delaforce) used high pressure tactics on us («I don’t have any more times for pre-​sale» [discussion with you]), and they were considerably more expensive than 3 other quotes we got, but we went with them because we thought they had a good reputation, and this was a huge investment for us. From the very beginning we were disappointed… the promise of a thorough, well conceived design process never materialized. We wanted expert advice on designing the right pool for us, but what we got instead was a rushed, ‘I don’t have any time for you’ approach. In fact, the draft design we came up with after the first meeting was never modified – when we asked to discuss possible modifications and collaborate more on the shape, they threatened to dramatically delay the start date. Throughout the months of working with them, we were often disappointed with how they scheduled work to be done, despite us going to great lengths to accommodate them, and giving them our schedule ahead of time. Early on in the project we asked for a change (that became necessary because of the design process being cut so short) John Delaforce became angry and immediately called the workers off the job at our house (they were working on another section of the pool). He then proceeded to bind us in a catch-​22: either sign a contract agreeing to pay an exorbitant amount for the change, or delay (or permanently stall?) the project. We had no choice but to sign – we had a contract with them and a big hole in our yard. It was essentially extortion. To skip ahead to the end, our pool heater did not work for the first 4 months, during which time they made feeble efforts to repair it; it became obvious that they didn’t know how to work their own equipment and that they were covering up their incompetence and the poor installation job they did. When politely confronted with our concerns, the owner of the company, Curtis Brock, became hostile and defensive, and was nothing short of rude and unresponsive.
BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY-​STAY AWAY!

When my husband and I were planning to build a swimming pool, Blue Haven gave us the best service and designs out of all the other swimming pool companies that we contacted. John Delaforce was the designer of our pool, he was very accommodating and went out of his way to make sure that we were absolutely satisfied with the final product. We are very happy with our decision to choose Blue Haven to build our pool, which became a beautiful addition to our backyard.

We spoke to several pool companies before deciding on John DeLaforce with Blue Haven. He listened to what we wanted and delivered a plan beyond our dreams. He designed our pool as well as a large pool house. We had a great experience with John and the entire Blue Haven team. Highly recommend them!

Apparently these dudes get so much business thrown at them from corporate builders (apartments etc.) that they don’t deign to do private pools much anymore. I had a thoroughly disappointing meeting with one of their «designers,» John Delaforce. This guy could barely design a ham sandwich: the slipshod design he offered me was inappropriate to the site, not anything near what I asked for, and on top of that would’ve taken close to a year’s wait time to even start to build!
In addition, they charge you $ 1200 to even get a design rendering from them. Everything about their way of doing business screams «don’t choose us to build your pool.» I’m sorry I even wasted my time talking to these guys. Go with Rising Sun or Blue Oasis instead: both of these companies gave me much better service while I was in the process of getting designs and estimates for my pool.
