This place is so so so cute.
Morro Bay has a certain sleepy charm to it and this was a great place that matched a relaxing sweet vibe the place had to offer.
For a really amazing honest price, you get the amenities of insta-​brew coffee, microwave, a fridge and an old school massaging bed. But what’s hands down refreshing and worth mentioning that beats other places– is that the basic needs are excelled which is so wonderful when you’ve been traveling and you’re so tired: a really clean place to sleep and an amazing clean bathroom. The inn, although you can tell it’s been around for a while, does not have an older musty smell, the bathroom is spotless, amazing hot water and pressure for the shower, and clean everything :).
One thing that I didn’t enjoy was hearing the screaming and playful kids as they destroyed the outside. But that can’t be helped because I never heard them when they were in their room!
Ann is really sweet. She was the person who greeted us and in the morning she was cleaning the rooms. Even my partner commented that when we were turning in our key she asked us «everything ok?» like our mom would when they greet us in the morning. Such a great family owned joint :).
Next stay to Morro again– definitely this place has my business forever as long as Ann runs the place.

The Sundown Inn is like those old school motels your grandparents used to take you to back in the day when you would drive across country. The Sundown Inn is in a great location and is family owned. It is within walking distance from downtown and the waterfront, but far enough away that you don’t get the noise of cars and people.
For the amazing price of $ 74, we got room 9. It consisted of a full size bed and a twin bed for our daughter. Although, I must admit that a full size bed isn’t the best thing for two adults. lol Our room was nicely decorated. It came with a tv, fridge, and microwave. There is no air conditioning, but there is a heater. It was nice to be in our room and leave the door open. I noticed a lot of other guests doing this as well.
The bathroom looked like it was newly remodeled. Although, the shower door was kind of small. I think it is best to soap up and then walk through the door. lol
Overall, a good value and a good location.

It was a clean, comfortable, quaint stay! Run by a nice older couple. They were very kind, making sure we had all the accommodations we needed. The rooms are a little small, but not too bad. Includes: cable tv, mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot.

An adorable drive in motel. Rooms are quaint, cute decorations and styling and very clean. Gracious host provided us with information on places to eat and the surrounding area. I would recommend this motel to any traveler. It has a touch of home, just like visiting your grandmothers house.

The room is very clean and well maintained.
I was surprised and happy to see organic lotion and shampoo provided to us.
The shower head is the best part. In so many hotels stays this one was the best.
I just wished if at such high room cost, breakfast could have been included.
It gets difficult when you are short of time and have to start early.
The bed massage for 25 cents is fun !!

It’s small, bit outdated, very well maintained, and a clean, save place to stay overnight.
You’ll receive a warm welcome and all services you require.
The rooms do have a great bathroom.
A mobile AC is availlable.
When comming back to that beautifull small town Morro Bay i will certainly stay at the Sundown Inn.

Checked in late last night and was pleasantly surprised due to the low price but this is a lovely little inn. We got 2 rooms and both rooms were very clean, no bad smells, refrigerator, coffee maker, wifi and everything we needed. Great location and friendly staff. Will stay here again next time we are in morro bay!

What an absolutely lovely place to stay. My mom & I were in town for the night & booked a room no problem. When we arrived, the room had all of your basic hotel room needs, and had cute, but quiet décor. The owner was nothing but a pleasure, & was quick to help us with anything we needed. Five stars — I highly recommend if you need a basic, clean room.

Usually, I really prefer a KNOWN hotel chain that has a certain ‘expectation’ of quality of room and service. In Morro Bay, that choice is quite limited. The Sundown Inn has had the same owner for almost 35 years. It is located on Main Street in Morro Bay and is easy walking distance to the waterfront shops and restaurants. The owner, Ann is hospitable, friendly, helpful, and just a pleasure to be around.
We were greeted warmly as return guests (from about a year ago), and were asked if there was anything we needed to make our stay more comfortable. Upon entering the room, we were greeted by a clean, well-​maintained, and cozy older hotel room, with fresh paint and NO SMELLS. The bathroom was small but efficient, and well-​stocked. There was a refrigerator and microwave in our room and well as a portable fan (Morro Bay rarely needs A/​C in any of their rooms, due to great weather).
The walls seemed a little thin (we could hear the TV from the adjacent room) but the occupant went to bed at a reasonable hour and the TV went off. This hotel DESERVES all the high ratings it receives and would be well worth your attention when visiting this area. Prices are VERY reasonable for the quality of what you receive. I truly wish more smaller, independent motels would follow the example and standard set by the Sundown Inn in Morro Bay.

The prior reviews are spot on. This hotel does deserve a 5 Star Rating. It is older and you will be very surprised when you enter your room. Immaculate and very clean and very nicely remodeled. We felt very comfortable there and we will return on our next visit to Morro Bay.
The owner and reception person Ann was very very cordial and nice. She always asked us if we needed anything and how everything is going. She added a very personal touch to this establishment.
My advice if you need a place to stay in Morro Bay, definitely stay here. Read all the reviews. They are great and they deserve to be.

Perfect little beach motel. Charming retro feel. Simple but spotlessly clean. Great location and friendly owners. Will always be our family’s first choice at Morro Bay!

We stayed 2 nights before the Memorial Day weekend.
I always am leery of 5 star hotel reviews, especially in tourist towns.
I tried to find something wrong with the room and could not.
Simple, spotless clean, inside the room and out. Nothing dated or worn.
The owner Ann is a delightful person, very helpful and seemed surprised that we did not want maid service to change the linens overnight.
By the looks of the plants outside someone has a green thumb. Beautiful!
I have stayed in hundreds of hotels in my life and this is as nice a room as I hoped for.
Also according to Miss Mari, «The Magic Fingers are the Bomb!»

We stayed here four nights in March 2015. The word «spotless» applies here. The exterior grounds, the room, the bathroom, everything. Ann is the owner (with her husband, I believe) and she is wonderful. Every day she made sure to ask us what we might need and what she could do for us.
The inn has sufficient parking, it was quiet at night and we were very comfortable. The room had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker as well as a flat screen TV. Our room (15) had a walk-​in closet as well.
Did I mention everything was spotless?

Sofie loves this place and so do I! You will get to meet Ann if you stay here. She is rather amusing with her cheerful and thorough attention to details. Behind the simile is passion in her voice and the sense of importance of the moment… kind of like my 3^rd grade teacher when she said, «Steven, you will be advancing the the 4^th grade!»… only Ann would say, «Here’s the key to your room!»
You know when you walk into a motel room — of an old motel — and there is «that smell» of thousands of people who have previously been there? Well, there was no smells at all… the greatest sensory overload came from my ears and eyes of hearing Sofie say, «I love this place!» and the sight of her jumping up and down. (She didn’t really jump up and down… I made that part up… but everything else is true!)
This is a really old motel — but Ann’s family (They have owned this place for 30 years) really take good care of the place. The shower is very nice… now Sofie wants one just like it at our house!
The experience of staying there is the motel experience form 30 years ago… you can hear slamming car doors and people walking by your room. I didn’t mind so much because they seemed like nice people.
Oh… the Magic Fingers! Sofie never heard of «The Magic Fingers» so when I dropped the quarter into the Magic Finger box on our bed she thought we were having an earthquake… then she thought something was wrong with our bed… until I explained the wonders of «The Magic Fingers». I explained that for 25 cents we could enjoy 15 minutes of a relaxing massage. She thought 15 minutes was a little long… and she said that my magic fingers are superior to the magic fingers from the little box.
When we left, Sofie went to get a post card to send to Alex — but when she went to pay, Ann said, «The postcard is free for you!» Sofie was touched.
We look forward to coming back.

I can’t believe my review is not on here-​disappeared? This was the best motel at the best price (use AAA) and location. Only 2 blocks from beach-​you totally step back in time. Family run cuteness! You will not be disapointed! I have sent friends here and they have been happy too! You don’t have Ocean view– but do you need one when you are sleeping? We walked around and just slept here. They have little fridge, micro and coffee maker. what else do you need traveling? The lady running it is so very kind! Even offered succulents for us to take home to replant but we were on a train. If you are not looking for a Fancy pants Hotel but a perfectly lovely cozy motel at a great price– this is the place!

A great place to say at an excellent value!
My first time here and I have not felt more welcomed at any place I have every stayed. How many times can you count on any hand the number of times the owner/​manager has personally checked up on your needs on a proactive basis? Ann certainly has shown a she cares about the people staying.

I like the flower decoration inside and outside the room. And the room is very clean. Ann shared delicious snacks with us.

This Inn was much more than Marty & I expected on our quest for retirement places to live pre-​Thanksgiving 2013 by 2 weeks.
I truly have a love for people like Ann & her family and, their family owned & operated business; Ann & her husband came to the USA from Taiwan 30 years ago, took out a loan, bought this place, which was in total disarray and floundering according to her (we saw the before pictures-​she was right!) story and they made the American dream come true for them, not to be wealthy, but rich in the results of hard work and THE dream that they had hoped & prayed for many years in the making is now a reality of long standing.
WE are coming back, and when we do, this is the only place we will stay.

From the day we spoke to Ann and booked our room a month in advance, we were told the rates, the senior discount of $ 10 off per day for me, (now Marty too when we go back since he just turned 55!) until we arrived, the communication & accommodations were note worthy most assuredly!
We stayed, 8 days & 7 nights (Saturday-​Th following Sunday, and for the 2 of us the rates with the discounts were, $ 59 per day Monday-​Thursday & $ 69 per day Friday-​Sunday; these were the off season rates too that run September through March.
When we arrived, we found ample parking in a very secure lot and nice part of Morro Bay, at check in, Ann was very kind, even upgraded us to another room (#15) where our bedroom was not against another room, had a brand new mattress, that was from Costco, that was like sleeping on a cloud, three layers of pure comfort-​we were even able to see The Morro Bay rock from our room!
Ann, made recommendations for places to eat, merchants stores etc., the discounts we’d get by showing we stayed at her establishment and, the room was just perfect with all of the amenities, the mini fridge, was large, a microwave, coffee maker, large flat screen TV, a dresser that had more room than we needed for our clothes, and we always over pack; the be bedside tables were great as was the dining table in front of our window.
Nice roomy bathroom and a shower, even had soft water here which is great on our skin and on my weave, now that’s an extra star right there!
A vanity table where I could prep & primp and a huge closet for our clothing etc. with plenty of hangers; ice machine just a small distance away and we BOTH couldn’t have been treated nicer; Ann knew we were a couple and wanted us to be comfortable during our stay on this much needed get away for ourselves.
Ann & her family do everything here, her husband and their 3 children, clean the rooms, beds, the laundry, I mean it it, you name it they do it and, if you need anything she came by every evening or called to insure that all of our needs were being met.
Look, I’ve have stayed at some very upscale hotels in suites touting their decadence and didn’t get this type of accommodating special touch at many of them.
Just perfect, adorable, charming quaint, wonderful owners and much better than the other places we looked over prior to coming and, for less money we got much more, a motel, that was 5 Star hotel status worthy.
Consider, no, stay here, because in addition to all that I described to you & more, Ann was not like this character from Bewitched (and I’ve experienced them too-​Newsy Neighbors!), nope, not in the least:

Day two of our spontaneous bday weekend getaway we found ourselves back in Paso Robles for a little wine tasting on our way back home from Pismo. We were on a super tight budget but really wanted just one more day to relax before facing reality. So I hopped online to look for a room. Completely disappointed to find absolutely no available rooms in Paso with the exception of one scary dive that the winery owner strongly suggested we not stay at, and the $ 300 room at the Marriott which was WAY out of our budget. I was determined to find something though so kept looking.
Cambria? Booked. Morro Bay? SCORE! We’d never been to this part of the coast so off we went on the next part of our adventure. 5 Star «Motel» with only one $? Totally apprehensive probably because of the picture of the «magic fingers» box next to the but but called and booked it. 40 minutes later we arrived and were pleasantly surprised.
The owner who checked us in was very sweet and suggested a few local restaurants for dinner. We ended up at Fish Bonez which was AMAZING! Read my review on that because it truly should not be missed.
Anyway, cute well maintained motel right off Main Street and within walking distance to great little shops, pubs and restaurants and a 5 minute walk to all the waterfront activity. This of course is where you can find Fish Bonez! Shameless plug I know.
Our room was exactly like the picture showed. Small and pretty dated but super clean and comfortable. There was no air so it got a little stuffy at night and the TV remote didn’t seem to work so great but who cares. The bathroom was small but in great condition with fantastic water pressure. Walls were a tad thin but our neighbors were quite.
This little gem is perfect for couples on a budget! We’d totally stay here again.
