Description

Specialties

The Moss Beach Distillery sits at the edge of a cliff in Half Moon Bay, California overlooking the ocean. We offer delicious steaks and fresh seafood alongside a haunted setting provided by our resident ghost the «Blue Lady.» Great place to impress that special some one or to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.

For the more casual outing we offer a heated outdoor patio that comes fitted with warm blankets and fire pits. Come spend the day watching all types of wildlife from red tailed hawks, hovering over a gully, to seals sunbathing in the ocean, to whales blowing their spouts as they migrate past the restaurant.

Lastly, don’t forget to bring along man’s best friend because we have one of the most dog-friendly patios in the peninsula. We even offer a ‘doggie menu’ that has been specifically designed for you furry friend. Their menu features grilled hot dogs, mini burger patties, and even a good dog skirt steak for that really good dog.

Happy Hour every Monday through Friday from 5−7pm we offer 50% off ALL DRINKS! Any and all* beer, wine, and cocktails and most of our bottled wine as well. We also have Happy Hour food available from $ 1.5 oysters to $ 5 and $ 8 fish tacos, pulled pork nachos, cheesy garlic bread and more.

*No Macallan 18yr.

Also available for private parties.

History

Established in 1927.

One of the most successful speakeasies of the era was «Frank’s Place» on the cliffs at Moss Beach. Built by Frank Torres in 1927, «Frank’s» became a popular nightspot for silent film stars and politicians from the City.

The restaurant, located on the cliff, above a secluded beach was a perfect location to benefit from the clandestine activities of Canadian rum-runners. Under cover of darkness and fog, illegal whiskey was landed on the beach, dragged up a steep cliff and loaded into waiting vehicles for transport to San Francisco. Some of the booze always found its way into the garage beneath «Frank’s Place.»

«Frank’s Place» now called THE MOSS BEACH DISTILLERY still retains its spectacular view and secluded location above the ocean coves.

The Distillery also retains one of «Frank’s» former customers, as well. Its resident ghost, «The Blue Lady» still haunts the premises, trying to recapture the romance and excitement of «Frank’s» speakeasy years.
