Humane Wildlife Control

We recently had some critters in the forest take refuge in our home. Humane Wildlife Control did an excellent job of trapping and removing the critters as well as make some improvements on my roof and to my vents. Rebecca is outstanding explaining everything they would be doing and the process. I also found Rebecca to be extremely responsive and always reachable. Through the process, I have gotten to know Duane, Mike and Rebecca and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs this type of service.

Two years ago, mice invaded my house. My tenants set traps, and made an effort to get rid of the mic, to no avail. They contacted a local company, who came out and provided a bid, but they insisted that the only way to get rid of the mice was to use poison, and I wanted to avoid poison. I wanted a more human way of ridding the home of mice, and one that wouldn’t put neighbor’s pets, or wildlife, at risk.
I found Humane Wildlife Control on Unilocal,and contacted them for a quote. Rebecca came out, looked over the house, and gave me a quote. rather than selling me on an ongoing treatment plan, as the other company recommended, Rebecca thought that one visit would take care of the problem.
Turns out she was right! She came out once, set traps, found, and sealed, all the cracks and crevices mice were using to get in, and voila’! Mice vanished.
That was two years ago — in October of 2013, and I’m happy to say that mice have yet to re-​appear in the home!

I had a small problem with raccoons under one of my rentals. Called Duane out of desperation, they gave me same day service and are true professionals. I would use these guys whenever the need arrives again.

Yesterday, a family of ducks were found swimming in our pool. A mother and 10 ducklings. Unfortunately, ducks make a mess in the pool. We called every wildlife removal company in Northern California. We came across Rebecca atHumane Wildlife Control. She agreed to come that afternoon and within one hour had removed the ducklings and the mother and relocated them to a safe area. Awesome service!

Rebecca came out on short notice to problem solve for an animal that was making a lot of noise in the sub-​floor and air ducts under my mobile home. She said maybe it was a raccoon, skunk, possum, or big rat. My dog was going crazy and ripping up our carpet! When I looked under my home I couldn’t see anything and I gave up trying to figure it out on my own. Earlier this year I tried ringing a bell and flashing a light to try to scare out critters, and then I tried to block a big gap with rocks and tying siding together with zip ties and that seemed to help for a while but I wanted something more permanent. Rebecca figured out how to get the current intruder out and gave me a specific plan on what I needed to do to make it stay out. I really like her philosophy of waiting for the animal to go out on its nightly rounds rather than having to deal with poisons or a dead or captured animal. It’s been quiet under my house ever since her visit almost two weeks ago! Now, I just need to follow up by finding someone to repair the points of entry permanently.

Mom was very happy to have Humane Wildlife Control Duane remove and release the dove that fell down her chimney.
A chimney sweep would wait for it to die; an exterminator would «remove» a pigeon, but not a dove.

I could not be happier with the solution Rebecca and Duane from Humane Wildlife Control provided for our Racoon problem.
Story time: there were raccoons pooping on the roof of the shed. Lots of pooping… like 5 lbs. a month. It was as if all the raccoons in the neighborhood were, «Hey raccoon dudes, I know this great place to poop!». Turns out, raccoons poop in communal sites, and they are called latrines:

It also turns out that in addition to being smelly and unsightly, raccoon poop carries a nasty (to humans and dogs) roundworm parasite Baylisascaris:

Anywhooo… Over the course of a year, my neighbor and I tried a variety of solutions… coyote urine crystals (worked about a week, and smelled worse than the raccoon poop), other deterrent agents (I think that included hot peppers or some such thing), and motion activated deterrents. Always, the pooping continued. They *really* liked the roof of the shed and nothing after a year of attempted solutions was working.
I thought a low voltage electric deterrent might be the next thing to try, but I did not even know where to start. Enter Unilocal reviews and Humane Wildlife Control. They came out, surveyed the environment and problem, and gave us an estimate. We pushed the button about a week later and after a morning of installation time, we had a beautifully operational low voltage electric deterrent solution. I love that the solution they provided was solar, was bird friendly, and did not damage or require modification to the roof for installation. The poles that hold up the «fence» are placed in bricks that sit on the roof surface. Simple genius. **Please see the picture of the installation.** I was also thoroughly impressed by their knowledge of how raccoons were accessing our roof. They proposed the locations for the fence and what type and size of fence would be effective. If I had tried it myself, I have no doubt that I’d have gotten it wrong. For me, this was a case of, «it pays to pay people for their expertise». I was also impressed with Duane’s knowledge of electrical things and his outstanding explanations to me about how the system works and how to maintain it (it is super low maintenance, but I’m curious so I had a lot of questions and learned a lot about how it works!).
I waited a bit to write this review (I suppose I could have come back and updated it), but I am happy to report that after 90 days, no poop; not a single one. Add me to the list of satisfied Humane Wildlife Control customers.

Duane and Rebecca are fantastic. The did a fantastic job squirrel-​proofing a very complex roof design at my house in Cupertino. A few years later they came back after a squirrel managed to make it down the chimney. (Squirrels are a theme here). In each case the job was done simply, quickly and without drama. Best of all there was no suggestion of poisoning or otherwise harming the critters concerned.
PS When crawling through my crawlspace, Duane found a leaky gas pipe that PG&E had missed. It’s probably not an exaggeration to say he prevented my house from exploding!

Rebecca & Duane have been amazing… true experts at what they do! So refreshing to find a permanent solution to wildlife issues & not just pest companies telling me to constantly trap as a solution. My HOA chose a local pest company who said we had no wildlife problem since they could find no access points. Thankfully I came across Humane Wildlife Control on my own. They did a complete inspection with written report & located wildlife & rodent access points in my building structure within minutes. We even had to deal with a mother raccoon & babies. They basically got the mother raccoon to relocate herself & her babies! Their ‘accurate & thorough’ inspection fee was much cheaper than the first pest company & they offer various options to fit your budget. What I took away from my experience with them… living in the mountains, the problem is not the wildlife, but addressing what the problems are with your structures that are allowing wildlife in. These guys are a wealth of knowledge & really great people in general!

Talk about fast and efficient service … Rebecca and Duane are definitely THE BEST! They not only addressed every aspect of our raccoon problem, but everything was discussed thoroughly so that we knew what they were going to do to abate this nasty problem, why they were doing it, and what we could expect moving forward.
Here’s the take-​away for dealing with raccoons on the Monterey Peninsula:
1. Don’t let them get comfortable in or around your home.
2. Let them know they are not welcome.
3. And at the first sign of raccoons on your property, call Rebecca at Humane Wildlife Control.
This will save you the heartache of destroyed landscaping, furniture, and everything else these critters get into.

Rebecca did a fantastic job and I have no more foxes.
She used a one way gate to allow the foxes out of the deck where they were nesting, but could not get back in. The alternative was having the foxes relocated. Come to find out the state of Calif does not allow that. They end up killing them. Not something I wanted to do.
She was a real pro all the way, and was here when she said she would be. Everything worked out perfectly.

I am in the North Hollywood/​Studio City area of Los Angeles and Humane Pest Control provides services here; this is not Bay Area only. (And please note they will do consulting over the phone nationwide.) I called yesterday to see if we could schedule an appt and they could actually fit us in today, a Sunday. I spoke with Rebecca and she was easy to talk as well as understanding – she was not judgmental.
Contractor/​carpenter Sam Ramirez is outside right now setting up a simple but humane newspaper/​citronella system for getting any critters and their babies out of our crawlspace so that he can then seal up access without trapping them inside to starve to death. We were having another contractor come out, but they were going to seal up access points and then set down glue traps and «snap» traps. I didn’t want to do that bc we just want the critters out of the house, not killed.
Sam is very personable and patient. He did inspection of outside perimeter, inspection of attic crawlspace, and roof inspection to locate any/​all access points. We went around with him on the exterior. He took photos and he also took a 360-​degree vid w/​his tablet of the attic crawlspace. He is repairing one vent cover. Total is $ 304 and that includes him making a handsome new wooden crawlspace-​access cover. If we wanted him to come over daily to check the newspaper and re-​staple it, that would be $ 45 a day. If you just want him to install a metal Home Depot cover, it’s 40 instead of 60. But the one he makes is flush and also looks a lot nicer.

I am posting this now as time is always an issue for me on the weekdays. If something changes, I will update or remove this review. But right now I am thankful that there’s a way to handle this without killing.

Thank God for Rebecca and Duane, who have saved our house (and my sanity) twice! First from squirrels bent on nesting on our roof and chewing supporting roof beams, and second from woodpeckers using our house as a great place to peck holes to create acorn storage. I was very relieved to have the baby squirrels moved without hurting them. The woodpeckers left immediately after the netting was placed around the roof edges, but they keep testing the netting to see if it’s going to go away. I imagine I will need to put Rebecca on speed dial! Small price to pay for living in a beautiful area with abundant wildlife.

Discovered that a raccoon was trapped in my garbage can. Home alone with kids, I was concerned about trying to handle this myself. Rebecca sent someone out to help me within two hours. Very kind and understanding. Couldn’t ask for better service.

We were stymied at what to do to prevent seagulls from nesting on our roof again this year, but Humane Pest Control were knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, flexible, and reasonably-​priced. We are so glad that we found them! Anyone who wants to get rid of pests in a humane manner could certainly do no better than calling Duane and Rebecca.

Raccoon Mama and one of her babies fell through the ceiling of the shower in our first floor bathroom. Mayhem!!! Mama got back up into the ceiling, hubby and I got the baby to native animal rescue. Rebecca and Duane came the next morning. Our family, I’m sure, wasn’t as traumatized as that raccoon family, but they needed to relocate. We had been wishing to allow them to grow up and waited for their moving on… but it didn’t work out that way. Rebecca and Duane knew how to get them to move on, and out humanely! …OH, and the CLEAN up Rebecca did was an amazingly well done job. We were so scared to do that after hearing about raccoons and ringworm. We can hardly say thanks enough!

Wonderful customer service! Called on Sunday. Rebecca was there on Monday… assessed situation… performed needed actions and provided very easy steps to take care of critters. Great feedback and update.
