The Mount Laurel Library provides a real and virtual center where residents gather as a community for learning, for leisure, for life.

History

Established in 1970.

The beginnings of the Mount Laurel Library date back to 1970 when the Mount Laurel Interim Library was established to serve the needs of 1,200 residents. It was based in a former school building, less than a mile from the present building.

In November 1973, the residents of Mount Laurel voted to establish the Mount Laurel Free Public Library. Construction on the 11,600 square foot facility was completed in 1975.

As the community of Mount Laurel continued to experience tremendous growth, plans were put in place to expand the existing library. In 1992 the dedication of the expanded facility of 33,000 square feet took place. The population of the Township had swelled to 30,000 residents by this time.

Presently, the population of Mount Laurel Township is over 40,000. Thanks to the forward thinking of the Town Council and Library Board of Trustees members, the existing building offers great possibilities to continue to grow with the community.
