Beautiful location next to the creek. Best to sit outside as the inside is a little tight. The Sunday special is always great! Love the salt rising bread, espresso drinks and their chocolate chip cookies are so decadent! It’s now our favorite brunch spot.

Great atmosphere and great food! Highly recommend the turkey cranberry sandwich it’s amazing. It is a little expensive for the amount of food but is very good!

This place reminded me of a little restaurant we went to in a town in Germany a couple of years ago. Driving through a little village and you kinda stable upon it I would imagine. I met some colleagues there for lunch.
Everything is made fresh daily and the Ruben sandwich was amazingly well made and so large that I could not finish.
I highly suggest this fantastic place if you find yourself even remotely close and hungry!

Couldn’t find anything to eat in Morgantown on a Subday morning. Decided to make the quick drive out to River Creek– good thing we did. Inviting atmosphere, professional kitchen. Great coffee.
My wife had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich that was amazing– the onions really made it. I had tomato gravy, two eggs and toast. Also amazing once I got the eggs on the toast, and the gravy on top.
Wish I lived nearby, I’m already craving that sandwich.

The promise of «salt rising bread» brought us here.
«Salt rising» is a bit of a misnomer. There’s no salt in this loaf. It’s an Appalachian tradition probably borne of a lack of available yeast. Settlers figured out how to make a loaf that rises thanks to a bacteria that thrives in a heated mixture of cornmeal, flour, and milk that go into the starter. It takes a full day to make, and it requires a new starter every time they bake. The brains behind the Rising Creek Bakery are anthropologists as much as they are bakers, and they have turned an interest in this tradition into a thriving business.
Fortunately, the bread is more than a scientific curiosity. It’s positively different than your standard yeast-​rising loaf. It has a lovely density (chewy — good for toast), and a very distinctive, cheesy taste. Bread lovers won’t want to pass this up.
We also enjoyed a decadent cookie on our picnic bench. The bakery sits above the (hopefully not rising) Dunkard Creek.

I wish I could give this place more stars but it was way out of our way and we got there no bread! The sandwiches delicious and the desserts outstanding but no salted bread they are so famous for I was dying to try? Mid I ever go again I will call to be sure they have the bread, however they do mail order it. Just doesn’t seem the same.

This review is for mail-​ordered salt risen bread. I ordered two loaves and they were shipped within a week (which I expected based on information on their website.) The bread was packaged well and looks fresh and delicious. Thank you for bringing back fantastic memories!

Stopped here for something different on a trip and what a pleasant suprise. The smell when you walk in is amazing. Had the squash curry soup and the quiche. Cant recommend them enough! Also had some samples of the bread and baked goods and they were fantastic. Will be stopping by on my way back through.

We are on our way home from Missouri to Virginia and we want a quick stop for snack and coffee. We are glad that we did. Environment are excellent, behind the café is a creek, outdoor seating and the best scone I ever had. We want to grab some bunch but didn’t want to wait since we want to get back on the road but I’m sure they serve wonderful food there. People are very friendly, I will stop by again if we come by this route again.

A little off the beaten path of the Interstate, (only 3 minutes, tops!) but SOOOOO worth the trek. A perfectly crisp but doughy Boston Cream doughnut, with a thick, nutmeggy Bavarian Cream in the middle & a perfect schmear of dark chocolate on the top. OH MY GOSH! Great coffees, fresh baked bread selections, breakfast dishes, lunch sandwiches, and some baked goodies in the glass case that are not even describable. I want to stay here forever & try everything! A true hidden gem of a coffee place amongst the gas stations & fast food excuses.

A short hop from I79, we stopped here on a road trip to Baltimore to avoid any dreaded fast food in Morgantown. Nice building with minimal indoor seating, the food was delicious. I had the pick two with a salad and broccoli quiche and hubby had the Reuben. The outdoor setting is lovely; right on a creek to breathe some fresh air and stretch the legs on a road trip. Definitely worth getting off the road for coffee, baked goodies or a meal!

Stopped here after seeing friends had stopped by and/​or had talked about it and was curious. Very glad we stopped! The menu was a decent size and the bakery case was full of delicious looking options. The sitting area was small but plenty of outside options are available once the weather gets nicer.
My husband tried the turkey cranberry sandwich which he said was delicious. I had the grilled cheese sandwich which was good but I should have gotten the Reuben. The salted bread was super good.
The baked goods were where it was at though. My husband loved the homemade nutter butter and I had the new samoa bar. It was shortbread on the bottom with a coconut caramel on the top. Heavenly. Highly recommend!!!

This place is super cozy, cute and extra delicious. Be sure to try the salt rising bread (SRB for those in the know). Smothered in tomato gravy, it’s pretty stupendous.
Sandwiches are killer, too. Mouth watering now as I type. Giant Turkey sandwich with Gouda and cranberry drippingly delicious.
Very friendly service, too. Lovely views of the adjacent creek and rolling hills. Perfect out of the way spot for breakfast or lunch!

Yea, these treats will certainly kill you — if not consumed in moderation — which is really difficult!
I stop as often as possible for the Salt Rising Bread. And end up with such killers as their version of the nutter butter p-​nut butter cookie. What a joyous diabetic delight!
Stop if you can. There is the beaten path, off the beaten path, and then there is the Rising Creek.
Find your way there if you dare!

Been here only once and already I love it. It is truly a warm cozy place to grab some fresh baked goodies or even a sandwich. It was fun watching the staff work their magic in the kitchen while I waited for my order. Also they allowed me a sample of their signature salt rising bread, which is unique because it is made using a special fermentation process that doesn’t include yeast. The taste is similar to a buttery sourdough bread, and it complements their breakfast sandwiches nicely. I also had the turkey cranberry sandwich which is a very filling and flavorful. I highly recommend it. Can’t wait to visit this place again.

This place seriously is a gem! It’s basically in the middle of nowhere. I stopped in for lunch on my road trip from CA to MD. I was adamant about not getting any fast food or stopping at any chains. This place was perfect! The weather outside was really nice so we took our dog to the lower grounds where she was able to run around on the grass and they also had a few picnic tables. The building looked completely new, it was small but it was really nice. The food was great. Most, if not all, was locally sourced, except for the drinks. but they had a great selection. I had a grilled cheese and soup and I can’t remember what my boyfriend had, but it was all really good. I would definitely come back here. It was such a treat to find such a perfect little place in such a rural area.

Yumm! They know what to do when it comes to sandwiches and desserts! I absolutely love the turkey and cranberry sandwich as well as the donuts. The prices are good and so it the atmosphere. It’s a little small, I’ve been there when it’s packed to door, but it’s worth the wait.

I found this little gem of a place one month ago and have come here once a week since then. Today I’m having breakfast with my daughter, who just arrived from Chicago. Life is very good.

Great place to get salt risen bread. We came here and had breakfast sandwiches which were the best! The bakery is in a small town but the service and food makes the drive out to Mt. Morris worth it! I met the owner who is extremely nice. The coffee needs a little help but that won’t keep me away from this place. 5 stars all the way.

Breakfast and lunch, amazing low sugar and high sugar baked goods, fresh baked bread, artisan sodas, good espresso drinks, overlooking a beautiful river. Just 5 minutes off I-​79, this sunny café is an oasis for east coast travelers. Make sure to get some of that salt rising bread while you’re there. We got coffee and sat down by the river for a few minutes. Wish we had a place like that in Washington DC.
