18|8 Fine Men’s Salons – Mountain View

Previously I’ve always been the type of person to go to great clips and get my hair curt the cheapest and quickest way possible. However that all changed when I was convinced to try 18|8. The haircuts are more expensive however I think it’s well worth the difference with the services provided.
A large reason I keep coming back is my hair stylist Yvonne. She, without a doubt, has given me the best haircuts I’ve ever had. In addition, she makes suggestions and talks about how the style fits your face. I really appreciate her input on my haircut and also her diligence in making the haircut look just right.
Thanks Yvonne you’re the best! Totally won’t be disappointed if you give this place a try!

I used to get my haircut at Supercuts in San Mateo since I worked there. I developed a report with this lovely older asian woman who knew my hair, and me. It was lovely.
Then I left my job and craved a better haircutting solution that would achieve a similar (and hopefully better) result.
ENTER ¹⁸⁄₈.
Reservations are a must. They don’t accept walk-​ins.
They offer a complimentary beverage with your haircut. Beer and wine are available as options.
The haircut was great, they washed my hair, detailed it with a straight edge razor, it was top-​end stuff. My stylist was pretty good, she talked a bit much for my taste but did a fantastic job.
I think I paid $ 40. Since it’s a salon I tipped generously, $ 10 or $ 15.
They are a chain btw so it’s nice that I’ll be able to go to an ¹⁸⁄₈ in San Diego, my new home.

Candy did an amazing job on my hair the other day! Recommended product that I had no idea existed and the cut looks flawless! Thanks Candy!

I recently moved to this area and, in searching for a new barber, decided to try 18|8. I didn’t know much of anything about my hair, but wanted to learn more about different styling techniques and cuts. I was paired with Yvonne, a senior stylist, on my first visit. I showed her a picture and we had a quick conversation about what sort of changes she would make, and she made sure I was following along and satisfied. My hair was a little too short to get exactly the cut I was hoping for, so Yvonne made the appropriate adjustments so that the next time I had an appointment I’d be a little bit closer to what I wanted. The haircut itself looked great, and I left knowing a lot more about how to wash and style my hair. The salon even helped me purchase some of the products that Yvonne recommended.
Not only that, but the next time I had an appointment I had some feedback on the product Yvonne had used, and she helped me find a different product that had the attributes I liked about the first one but was slightly more to my taste: it would work just as well with towel-​dried hair (instead of blow dried), and it wasn’t as wet, so my hair wouldn’t curl as much. It’s great that the stylists take a sincere interest in how you feel about the cut and the style, since it can always be changing.
Finally– the haircut itself is very enjoyable. The salon takes pride in really pampering its customers, so you can get a quick massage and shampoo before the stylist takes out their scissors. The station is clean and smells good. Yvonne did a nice job of pinning up my hair and keeping the loose bits from falling onto my face. You get another shampoo after the cut, and the stylist works with you to explain how to style your hair after washing. The entire visit lasts an hour, so you do need to plan ahead and make an appointment. But for what you get, it’s worth the time and the price!

This place is AMAZING!!! I was looking for a nice place for my boyfriend and stumbled upon this salon on Unilocal.We were so impressed with the atmosphere, service and extra perks… while i waited I was offered a beverage. ps I chose wine. Vincent did the hair cut and he was awesome and definitely knew his stuff! The hair cut included wearing a man’s robe, a hot stone neck massage and all the style of a salon but the comfort of your neighborhood barber shop. From a girlfriend’s perspective, this place was perfect for my boyfriend ie for a mans man to get a hair style that actually appeals to his lady. I would highly recommend VINCENT!!!

Decent job. Nice area, nice team but waaaay too overpriced for the cut you get. New client $ 54 for a haircut!!! Not again.

I moved to the Bay Area in June 2015 and have tried five different stylists/​salons, all with unpleasant results. That all changed yesterday after my trip to 18|8 Mountain View.
I’ve been to a different 18|8 location before while traveling for work, so I knew what to expect as far as the experience. I’m not sure why other guys on here have complained about the price of their visit, because 1) the price is listed right on the site when you schedule the cut, and 2) for a great cut and good beer it is totally worth it. I got the executive cut and scalp treatment and am totally satisfied with the results.
The lady who was working the front desk during my visit was awesome (sorry, I didn’t get your name). She was right on top of everything, got me checked in and checked out seamlessly, and poured a great IPA.
I already made my next appointment and am looking forward to it.

Great place, staff is very engaging! They seem to love being there, and it shows. I have no problem paying 46 $ for a beer, shoulder massage AND haircut, especially when I’m treated the way I am by the staff. ¹⁰⁰⁄₁₀₀.

I’ve been searching for a proper men’s «barbershop» or «salon» (whatever you want to call it) in the Peninsula or South Bay for years. My requirements were pretty basic: Don’t buzz my hair and don’t argue with me when I prefer a scissors cut; don’t get hair all over and inside my clothes; and offer a straight-​shave. I’d forego 2 out of those 3 for a decent cut but it’s so hard to find here in the Bay Area.
I lucked out and booked Jay today for my first cut. He’s considered a senior stylist so a bit more expensive than their starting price point, but well worth it. He’s also the «barber» that can offer straight razor shaves. He’ll be my go-​to going forward.
The overall corporate/​franchise concept is great; service is solid, the amenities are great (beer, wine, hot face towel, etc). Price is higher than most of what you’d find in the South Bay but well worth it to have an enjoyable, professional experience.
I’ll join their Membership when they come out with a monthly plan.

First time here, I usually go to the master cuts by my work, but a friend referred me to 18|8. It was super awesome and nice. Jay was cool and worked with me on how I wanted my hair cut and styled. Totally went above and beyond. Danielle the receptionist was really polite and offered me a drink, and a complete run down of services and products. Definitely will be coming here for now on.

My hairstylist took great care of me and took his time. Most other hairstylists cut my hair too short for my taste, but I really like how this cut looks.
And the ultimate test: I gave kind of vague instructions for what I wanted in the beginning. When I changed my mind upon seeing the final result, he was super understanding and cool about it. Usually, you’ll get at least an annoyed scoff.
Highly recommended. And with the student discount on weekends, the admittedly high prices hurt a little bit less.

I booked my appointment online and arrived on time. Waited a few minutes as my stylist got set up. My usual stylist is out of the area so I tried something new. The salon is clean. Changing into a robe and removing my shirt was fine but overkill since they never got the hair out of my ears or off my neck.
I’m used to a stylist who uses scissors to cut over using a quick buzz cut and blending technique. That to me is the quality you get in Supercuts not what you pay $ 45 for. The cut was acceptable but my check out was the issue.
The entire salon is plastered with signs saying 25% off a service excluding color. The receptionist looked at me like I was crazy. I pointed to it, she saw it walked over and read it. And said «Your cut is $ 45. No discount.» She then told me I needed some hair gel. No thanks I did not want it. Sign up as a new client please. I informed her I did it online. She acted offended. At this point I just wanted to go. I used the terminal to pay and 3 of my credit cards said declined. She said it probably is my card. Then she entered one of my cards manually. I stood there as she gave back my card. She barely spoke proper English and started straightening papers and magazines. I stood for another minute and said «Well do I need to sign?» No was her only response. «Can I have a receipt?» She looked like I was crazy and said «You can go.»
She didn’t look at me and kept straightening papers. WTF? No receipt? No come again? I felt so disrespected I won’t be back. And now I have to check my credit card statement because I’m concerned she may not have charged me the correct amount.

I absolutely love getting my haircut at 18|8. I’ve gotten plenty of good haircuts in my life, but very view have been as consistently awesome as those I get each time at this place.
My stylist is Yvonne, and she is an absolute joy to know. She really does a great job because she knows her stuff and likes to be an expert in her craft. I came in one week with a specific style in mind that I had noticed was popular and she immediately taught me everything there is to know about it, including terminology.
Not only does she know her work front and back, but she is a great person to talk with while she cuts your hair. It’s always awkward when the person cutting your hair isn’t much for conversation, but I’ve never had that problem with her. It feels like we’ve been good friends for a long time, and the haircut always flies by.
The experience at 18|8 is noteworthy no matter who cuts your hair. They’re all very professional, skilled, and focused on making you look good. In addition they provide a true LA style fashion environment. You feel like a king when you walk in. It’s not just a haircut, but an entire experience.
Their membership is a great deal if you’re like me and you enjoy consistency in routine and haircut. I pretty much have a 3 week rotation at this point.
I’m a big fan of everything they’re doing and I’ll be a loyal, happy, fanatical, customer for a long time.

I was in the area for work and had some time to kill when i came across 18I8. I walked in slightly skeptical about getting my hair cut at mens salon, instead of my usual $ 15 haircut place. First off the girl at the counter with her genuine smile greets me and I already begin to feel comfortable.
Maisah was my stylist and she made me feel relaxed and with how much I’ve been working It felt good to be pampered. Maisah did a excellent job and ill be back to see her again. The owner Chis even greeted me and asked how i was doing, and chatted it up with me.
In general I would give this place 6 STARS if possible. The people here are awesome. I felt like i has hanging out with family and friends, and i just met these people.
Don’t Miss Out On This Experience.

Terrible first impression. Made an appointment a few days in advance for facial and cut. I show up and tell me it will be a few minutes. Fine no big deal. 20 minutes later the stylist comes to tell me 5 more minutes. 15 minutes later still WAITING.
And someone had an appointment same time as myself and he was taken in 5 minutes after his arrival.
So I told the receptionist I’m leaving and she gets a bit worried cuz I say I’m canceling and walking out. Never tries to convince me to stay just threw her off guard I guess because I decided to leave.
I told her on my way out that it was not a great impression. I’ll NEVER return.
If the stylist knew she was running a bit over with previous client they could’ve had the courtesy to call me and let me know. I would’ve been ok with that. But they expected me to just wait over 30 minutes? What’s the point of making an appointment if I’m going to wait??? Even waiting 5 minutes is too much I think. I was going to spend over $ 100 not including tip. So I would think I’d be taken in quickly.
Sorry 18 8. You didn’t impress me one bit. And u wasted my time! Can’t believe they would do this to a first time client. I can’t recommend this place because they never bothered to remedy the problem!
