History

Established in 1985.

We started as a home based prepress operation. One thing lead to another and Inksmith Printing was born. We had a 20 year old one color press. Soon business gave us an opportunity to move and buy new 2-​color presses. 2 moves later we have morphed and have included SHORT RUN color printing to our services.

Business Owner

Steve is a native Bay Area resident. We have the combined printing experience of 60 years. Steve’s expertise is with color and quality. His experience as a award winning fine art photographer gives him the critical eye for quality printing and finishing.

Marcia has lived in the Bay Area for the last 30 years. I like working with color and texture, that’s what make me the paper expert.

The print quality here is on point. As a design student living in mountain view, Marcia has helped me through many deliverables for my university projects. The customer service is also very accommodating and she truly does her best to please. It’s clear that she takes pride in what she does and I love that.

I never write Unilocal reviews… ever. But I was so impressed with Marcia and the Inksmith team that I had to write one. I gave her my wedding invitation designs and this crazy thick 300lb textured paper to print on Wednesday and she had them done by Friday afternoon because I told her that I wanted to get them out by the weekend. And she nailed it. They look flawless. Her prices were also by far the best quote we got as well (Seriously, such good prices). When we ended up needing some more paper, she called PaperSource for us and had them on hold for me to pick up so we could get the order finished ASAP. Everything worked out great. Will be coming back for all of my printing needs (rehearsal dinner, program, menu) etc.

This review is a bit overdue, but give our positive experience with Inksmith wanted to make sure we chimed in. In May 2014 we looked to Inksmith to get a seating chart and programs printed on relatively short notice for our wedding. We first reached out to Marcia on a Monday with the preliminary designs, and over the next couple days, went through several iterations to reach the final design. Everything went smoothly and without a hitch, and our programs looked amazing. Would definitely use Inksmith again for any future printing needs.

I ordered business cards at this place. Marcia was very nice, helpful and completed my order just in a few hours. But unfortunately the quality of printing and material (paper) for my cards were far away from my expectations. Even though I had hold another sample of a business card in a store and had promised to get the same printing result the end product of my card appeared much worse. I recommend this place for the guys who need to print something urgently, but do not expect perfect quality.

I’ve using Inksmith for 4 or 5 years now. Printers in Silicon Valley seem to be an endangered species. Most of the printers we have worked with have either closed or merged. So, it’s refreshing to find a small local printer that’s flexible, easy to work with and still in business.

Marcia’s an angel! I ran in to get some signs printed for tonight and she was able to get it printed for me right away. I sent her the files and we worked on the sizing to get it perfect. She showed me the different papers, and size options I had to choose from. SUPER HELPFUL! And she helped me get what I needed on short notice. I didn’t even call, I just walked in slightly in a panic since I had done absolutely no research and waited until last minute. I’m lucky I walked in and got the help I needed. So incredible– needed last minute business card for an unexpected event, and Marcia came through amazingly. I only needed a few to tide me over since I ran out, and even though it was a small order, Marcia gave me great, attentive service.
Whats more, I didn’t realize they had a $ 100 minimum for credit card, and Marcia just handed me an envelope and told me to mail her the check– it’s hard to find service like that nowadays.

Marcia printed most of the paper goods for my wedding last month. As a very picky but also budget-​conscious bride (probably the worst combination ever), I was pretty specific with my requests. Marcia was incredibly patient and accommodating, particularly when a tight deadline needed to be met. Not to mention, her prices are very reasonable. I would definitely come back to her for future printing needs.

Marcia helped me on a last-​minute request for some flyers.
I first called to explain what I needed, and she provided some suggestions and an immediate quote. Even though it was already late in the day, Marcia was very accommodating.
The flyers turned out very well. As promised, she used a suitable weight paper that felt very professional (aka I have no idea what weight is ideal). That was helpful. Price seemed reasonable.

I’ve been very happy with this printing service. Marcia is very flexible and will do a lot to accommodate your requests. You can also have very small jobs printed here.
I’ve had thermography, letterpress and flat print done here for custom calligraphy and the results were great. Marcia will take time to explain the different processes to you if you have questions.
One time, Marcia gave me a quote for a project, only to find out that her vendor had doubled their prices. And she still did the job for the price she had originally quoted!
Marcia makes it easy for you to get your printing job done. I’ve had her provide the paper for my jobs, too. She is also willing to work with you if you live further away, eg. via mail.
The only complaint I would have is that I sometimes had to inquire a couple times to get a reply back, call and leave messages, etc. But once the quote is settled, Marcia will get on your project and make sure it will be ready on time.

I am extremely glad I found this print shop, because it’s close to where I live and for the past 2 years or so I’ve been driving all the way to Berkeley to get my prints done, heh.
I routinely print 11×17 art prints at full bleed. Inksmith is awesome because they gave me a super good quote (less than $ 1 per print) and fast turnaround for a relatively large order (~150 prints done in 1.5 business days). Also Marcia is super nice!
Marcia had a minor mistake on my order, and she printed less than what I had originally emailed in. But! She offered to print the remainder of my order within a few hours, and told me that I could worry about payment later.
Anyway, overall super happy with this place and I’m definitely going to come back!

My experience with this company was nothing but AWESOME. I needed my wedding invitations and envelopes ASAP! Marcia was very attentive to my deadlines. She kept to her promises and went above and beyond other printing companies were not willing to do.
The quality was great, she always kept me in the loop. I would trust her again with future printing projects. Marcia is committed to providing quality prints in a timely fashion.
I do have to complement the hours of 8am. As a working professional, it was great to have a company opened before I had to work at 9am.

It is really unfair to blame someone for not responding to email without finding out what went wrong first. Spam filters are unpredictable, especially if you don’t have the chance to input the contact first.
My sister had a GREAT experience with Marcia at Inksmith, and I am using her service, too. She is personal, quick, and priced below Kinko’s/Fedex. She asked me questions I hadn’t even considered, and suggested that I feel the paper before decided on the weight. I have no reservations recommending her. I just dropped by her place (behind Bajis’ Café, one of my preferred restaurant choices), and she looked over my project right away. I just had a five minute wait while she wrapped up with the previous customer.

Needed invites printed (small order) so I emailed first since the website advised to contact Marcia by email for quickest response… not in my experience.
I use Unilocal for everything so I was certain the positive reviews on this business would not let me down… I was wrong.
I sent Marcia an email early last week and did not get a response so I followed up a week later (today) still no response.
I’m not sure if she’s on vacation or my order is so small and not worth it to even respond to me… either way, I went to the next closest business with great reviews (Prodigy Press) and got my order printed on the spot — no wait! They look great and I can’t wait to refer them to friends and family in the area!

Well of course I was in the situation of needing business cards in a one day turnaround. Search Unilocal and found Inksmith’s mentioned as a place to check for last minute items… and wow are the reviews right!
Now, it’s a little hard to find because its in a plaza that has a restaurant called Baja? or something, and if you look to the side, you will see other signs of businesses. When you go in, it literally looks like you walk into a home office.
I talked to Marcia. Super nice and accommodating given my time constraints. Really reasonable prices, and she came up with the perfect design. In 4 hours I had walked in, proofed via email and picked up my small stack of business cards. and they looked fantastic!
Excellent customer service, I don’t think I will ever go to a big box store for printing. This is THE place to go for quality work and a family run atmosphere.

I had a huge event where I needed menus, pamphlets, name tags, you name it I probably needed it!
As I am sure all of you know, working with printers is not an easy as it sounds so I dreaded the process. I immediately started calling my resources in the rolodex to get quotes and found them to offer the best rate for what I needed. They were very friendly over the phone and took the time to listen to what I needed, and came back with a quote that I couldn’t pass up.
I am very happy with the services and final product. It was a huge job and I congratulate them on working as hard as they did to make the deadline. With all the stress of an event, your head being in so many different places and trying to remember everything, its good to know that you can rely on them to help with part of the work that needs done.
