Kim’s Alterations & Cleaners

I would like to give this place more stars, because when I phoned initially and got voicemail from a different phone number, owner Jennyfer called back and arranged to meet me later in the day when she could be there personally. At exactly the meeting time I was still a few blocks away, and she called to make sure I knew where to turn (the street address is misleading, they are behind stores on El Camino, really should have an address on the cross street)
I had a quilt which needed to be re-​lined, and I had four packets of material with which to do it. She discussed the job in Vietnamese with her seamstress, who does not appear to speak any English. She set a pickup time for two weeks from then.
Two weeks later, I arrived at 2:30 pm to pick up the finished quilt, Jennyfer was not in the shop. The seamstress and an older woman chatted when the older woman could not find the quilt on the rack. The older woman also does not appear to speak English, but she pointed to my receipt that the pickup time was 4 pm.
I returned at 4:20 to find the seamstress working on the quilt. She said it would be done in 15 minutes, but I was already late for an appointment, so I went home. That was last Saturday.
Yesterday I went there at 4, again no Jennyfer, but the quilt was on the rack (I had to point it out the older woman — it was right in front of her). I paid the very reasonable $ 60 in cash and asked for a receipt. It took a minute before the old woman figured out what I was asking for and gave me the customer copy.
At home I checked out the work, and it was pretty good. But they had only used three of the four packets of material, and had not returned the extra one. And in the process of trimming the ragged edges, she had taken so much from the bottom of the quilt that a hand-​stitched note (birthday wishes and a heart) from my sister (who had made the quilt) was completely covered.
My main gripe is similar to many above — they had two weeks to do the work but didn’t get started until after the last minute. A smaller gripe is there really should be someone in the store who speaks English.

I had two pairs of pants tapered in, One pair was done perfectly and the other not so much. It was tight at first and then the seems kind of busted out a little which is much better on the fit but the seems are frayed out a little on the side.

Alteration quality is OK. Kind of expensive.

I still come to Kim’s for alteration but the owner is not around as much and I do think the service is hit or missed. The last time the owner was not around, and I left a pair of jeans for the ladies to hem. They didn’t speak English and communication was stressful. I ended up unhappy with the hem job. I felt that the jeans were shorter than what we had measured. Now these $ 180 jeans are wasted. I either donate them or wear them very low at the waist to make the length bearable. I went back to speak with the lady who measured my pants and she drew a blank and the guy looked at me with a blank stare. I question, how I can trust the team without the owner around.
I still go use their dry cleaning service cos they are the only hop open on Sunday and they are around the corner from my home. My advice is, unless you speak with the owner don’t try to take your stuff to hem. It’s can get disappointing.

Came here based on the other phenomenal Unilocal reviews (helpful that it’s close to work) as well as their convenient hours. I needed new pants hemmed quickly and they were able to deliver with quality and, most importantly, within my tight time frame.
Just dropped off more clothes to have pressed and an alteration. Jennyfer explained how she was going to perform the alteration and cleared it with me before accepting the task.
Very pleased with the service, attention to detail, and friendliness. Thank you and I’ll be coming back for any tailoring services that I need!

My favorite light down jacket had a couple of holes in it, and two other tailoring places said there was nothing they could do to help!
When I got to Kim’s Alterations & Cleaners, the lady explained in detail how she would cut the jacket open to fix those holes. I appreciate that she was very attentive to detail and even noticed another tiny hole on the back of the jacket while carefully inspecting it.
Since other places refused to take this job, I was a little nervous about how my jacket would come out. But it turned out absolutely amazing thanks to the creative approach of the great professional.
I also needed a pair of pants to be shortened, and of course brought them to Kim’s Alterations & Cleaners. Again, the pants came out great. So, I’m very happy I found a reliable tailoring place in the area!

Amazing service. I realized one of my shirts was missing a button. I went to Kim’s 2 mins before closing time on a Sunday. She did it. Saved my business travel the next day. I’ll never go anywhere else.

Kim pulled through for me in a big way! Needed to have alterations done to my daughter’s TKD competition uniform, but couldn’t get it dropped off since I was sick. An hour and a half before we had to leave for a tournament out of town, I finally made it in to Kim’s shop. Showed her that I needed both sleeves and pant legs shortened. We noticed that the top was also dirty on the sleeve. She asked when I needed it and I told her in an hour. Not only did she have it done, but the alterations were perfect, with the original stitching the uniform had. AND she told me that she also saw that the top was dirty in more places than the sleeve, so she went ahead and cleaned the top for me. Will definitely come back to Kim’s to have any other alterations I need.

My son needed to alter his newly purchased suit for the big high school formal last week and his suit was ready well ahead of time and tailored perfectly to him (including the shirt). He was very happy happy and he received many compliments!

This is the worst place I have been for alterations. They did not alter my jeans correctly and then they asked for full money to re alter

Had sleeves to a dress altered. Needed it the next day since I was headed out of town, wasn’t a problem for them. I also wanted to swap out some simple buttons on the dress for a little more blinged out ones — she told me where to go to find some cute ones, ran over to the store she suggested and she added them to my dress. Love my dress!

This place is rip off. First they say $ 6 hem for pants and after you spent all time trying pants so they can mark your size, the lady says $ 8. Liars. My colleague always comes here and says they charge $ 6, they just make the price as they go!!!

I really like this place. The ladies are very friendly even though many do not understand English well. They do a good job with all my hemming and dry cleaning. I like that they have a changing room so that they pin my hem right there instead of me having to tell them to cut off 3 inches or something. If you need something complex, talk to Jennyfer who speaks English.

Poor Service and be careful if you need any alterations, the person who did it for me does not speak English and managed to ruin a 1000 USD suit!!!

They are the best!!! Very friendly customer service, very reasonable price, although some of the ladies does not speak english very well, they will try their best to understand you and help you the best they can. Definitely recommended. They are if not the best than one of the best store in Cupertino will come back again for sure

If there were zero stars, they’d get them.
I showed up waiting for them to open at 10:00. They arrived exactly at 10:00, and there was a single person present.
I asked for two pairs of pants to be hemmed. At first I asked if they could keep the original hems and was told «yes.» Next I told him I needed them same day. He pointed at the back and wasn’t sure. He next said «how about one?» I said I needed both– he said «ok» but without much confidence.
When I pushed him to confirm same day he said «maybe not.»
My advice: maybe you should take your business elsewhere if you are considering this business to do anything with your clothes. To say they are disorganized is an understatement:

«Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me.» I should have known better than to bring anything else here after the first mishap.
First time, I had brought in a pair of pants to be hemmed. It was on my way home from work, so that made this location convenient. When I brought in my pair of pants, they were nice enough and wrote me up a ticket. They asked me if 3 days later was ok. When I asked about the 1 hr. turn around time they advertise, they paused, said sure and re-​wrote me a ticket for $ 20 extra. I said no thanks, and would be back in 3 days. 3 days later I came back and my pants were not ready. I had to wait for another 40min. until they finished. I was annoyed at the wait time, but the pants turned out ok.
Second time, I needed the straps on my dress to be shortened. It was a simple alteration, but I made sure to come a week early due to my first experience. I came in, they measured me and asked if I could come back in 2 weeks! I asked if it could be done by the end of the week, and they agreed. 7 days later I come back and the dress is not done! They asked if I could wait 30 min. and I couldn’t, so I had to come back 3 days later. I should have just taken the dress back the first time I came back because my dress is now altered, and the straps are too short! Somehow ½ inch got taken up 2 inches. I had to take my dress to my regular tailor to
have it worked on. What was a simple alteration is now an ordeal. Even so, my tailor is only going to take 1 day to fix it, whereas they took 10 days to ruin it.
Never again… and I just hope anyone else that is thinking about coming here, just NEVER does

I searched for a new dry cleaner and found Kim’s. My first drop off was odd because the lady that had taken my clothing didn’t understand English and pushed a notebook in front of me and asked me to write my name. I did comply. When I returned for pick up a few days later I arrived at 9:30am. They were still closed! I waited in the parking lot until 10am when an employee finally arrived with the excuse «too much traffic».
I tried this dry cleaner again. I brought 3 shirts in to be dry cleaned. One was brand new with the tags on it. I returned a few days later to pick up my items at 9:30am. Again, no one opened this business on time. I waited until 9:50 am in the parking lot and received the same response «too much traffic».
I went inside and they could not find my clothes. They asked me to come in the back and look through racks of clothes with no tags on them. Honestly, I could have taken anyone’s clothes home with me but I would never do that! I found one shirt and was told to go home and they would call me if they found the others. I called back the next day and they still didn’t locate my clothes. The third day, I called again and they found my shirts at another location.
I will not use this dry cleaner again and suggest that you also look elsewhere for a reliable dry cleaner that is organized and open on time.

I hate to write negative reviews however this business absolutely deserves it. I took my wedding dress in for some minor alteration and to sew on beats and pearls 5 weeks before the wedding. Owner Jennifer appeared very friendly also informed me designing wedding dresses is her hobby, she quoted me $ 300. I was comfortable letting her take charge to decorate my wedding dress by providing her the beatings and pearls, also half payment of $ 150. Long story short, three weeks later when it comes time to see the dress, she informed she needed another week to work on it, now 4 weeks later she once again extended the pickup date saying she had some family emergencies, then another two days because she needed to do some final touches… at first I was thinking ok I do not want her to feel rushed and do a good job, now I began to think she has not yet worked on my dress! So I said I would like to see the dress regardless of what you have done on it. Guess what, she had maybe 20 pearls sew on at random places and have not used any other beatings I’ve given her! Her reason was they don’t look elegant? She spent maybe half hour on my dress in the 4 weeks she had it! I was on fire now my wedding is one week away, my wedding dress is not yet close to ready. I hate to say she has zero work ethics and she is deceiving to her customer, I’m sorry to say she cannot be trusted and i will not be giving her any businesses.

This review is long overdue! I LOVE Kim’s! I have had two wonderful experiences here. First, about a year ago, I brought both mine and my daughters dresses in for alterations for a wedding we we both in. I waited until the last minute, and couldn’t find anyone willing to do a rush until, KIM’S so kindly saved us! They took our dresses in and had them done within just hours. The work was beautiful and both our dresses fit perfectly.
The second visit, I brought in my stained yellowing wedding dress that had been hanging in my closet for the last 10 years. I just picked it up today and it looks fantastic! I can’t believe it’s the same dress. They boxed it up beautifully, too.
