Specialties
I specialize in treating anxiety issues, including panic attacks, phobias, constant worrying, post traumatic stress (PTSD), dissociation disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and others. In addition, I also specialize in couples therapy and teaching self-hypnosis for a more comfortable and calm childbirth experience. Treatment for anxiety-based issues is largely successful using evidence-based approaches, such as EMDR, systematic desensitization, exposure therapy, mindfulness meditation, hypnosis, and various other cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques. With my education and/or training in all of these approaches, it is likely that I can help reduce or eliminate your anxiety-based problem. Working with couples issues in therapy, I lean heavily on my training in the Gottman method. And currently, I teach self-hypnosis to expectant mothers and their partners, in preparation for childbirth. Learn more about all of this at my website.
History
Established in 1999.
I became licensed as a marriage and family therapist in January of 1999 and was in private practice on Hedding Street in San Jose until March of 2012 when I relocated to 2391 The Alameda, Suite 110, in Santa Clara. Then in July of 2012, I added this Palo Alto office on Mondays and Wednesdays as well as some weekends when I teach my self-hypnosis for childbirth classes. And finally, in April 2013, I also became licensed as a professional clinical counselor.
During my career as a therapist, I have worked with a wide variety of people on a wide variety of issues. Prior to my private practice, this included working with adolescents as part of a substance abuse program and later with adolescents and families in a residential program for runaways. I interned with Family Court Services doing custody mediation. At another agency, I facilitated groups for batterers and worked with their partners, and later I took a program director position for a domestic violence intervention program.
