Mountain View Door Closer Key & Lock Service

These people could have easily overcharged me for a simple matter, but did not. They found a small key to fit a box i was trying to open and just charged me $ 5 for the key when they could have easily charged me like $ 20 to open the box and even more to make a key. That’s a service provider you can trust.

I was a little tentative that there might be Unilocal inflation here — what kind of locksmith gets so many five star reviews?
When I went there for some bent keys and copies, it was insanely fast and a sub-​$ 5 price tag. I didn’t even get charged for fixing my bent keys!
Wish I could write more but I was literally in the store for less than 5 minutes with other customers. Three guys behind the counter insanely fast and efficient at what they do at a nominal price. No wonder this place survives on Castro Street.

They’re fast, but really rude and have a credit card minimum of $ 10. That’s technically not legal for debit cards, but when I politely pointed this out to the guy at the register a woman in the back, without coming out, yelled otherwise. Even if your customer is wrong, you could stand to have some manners.

Needed a key copied. Was in and then out with two brand new functional keys in three minutes. Street parking was a breeze (I parked on Villa around the corner of the Villa & Castro). The two keys cost $ 4.24.
Friendly and efficient service, effective work. Would 100% recommend!

I went to get a copy of the door key. They were quick (2 minutes), precise and not expensive at all. A very satisfied customer.

Was able to match a pad lock from a key that I brought in. Company took care of my small problem, but have a crew to take care of major jobs.

WOW. I’m blown away by their efficiency: I got my key copied, paid ($ 2.12 cash) and was out of there within ONE MINUTE! I’ve never had my keys made that quickly before. Definitely using them again for my key copying needs.

I was impressed by how fast they copied the keys! I’d recommend anyone who needed a quick new pair of keys to come here.

I really like their safe museum. They’ll spend a lot of time with you and answer questions, very helpful staff. Hope they do not get forced out by Mountain View’s raising rents, just to add another bubble tea or fleeting restaurant.

Walk into this shop and the ambiance is «wisdom of all things key and lock related»…and it is *powerful*. It would be easy to write this off as nostalgia for a Mayberry-​esc upbringing… but these folks know how to do it, and do it right; additionally, they are forthright *and* friendly.
Andrew helped to bring keys back to my 60’s era musclecar using experience and talent; he gave advice that saved me from spending well north of $ 100…even though it would have been paid to his service. I do not expect anyone in business to give their talent away for free, and surely Mountain View Lock & Safe Company will see additional business from me.
The combination of honesty, integrity, competence, and empathy seem to be more common in fiction novels than in realty… Not so, with Andrew and his team.
An easy yet rare Five Star business (and no… I do not know them, nor am I affiliated with them). :-)

Wow, very impressed with the speed and quality of service! My home front door key got stuck in the lock and I could not get it out or lock the door or open it. Andrew made a house call in an hour and helped identify the problem and explained well and also replace the unit with a new one quickly. Very courteous and efficient and a job well done. Thank you Andrew and Neil. Much appreciate the service. Would highly recommend this place to any one in distress of such lock issues :)

Been going to Mountain View Lock and Safe for years but did not realize they made house calls.
We had a sliding glass door that was sticking and they sent their mobile van to my location for a service call. They adjusted the rollers and now the door works like new.
They also made some keys while they were there. Great service!

Speaking of ROTDs, I’m approaching my third year as a Unilocaler now, and I’m coming to think more and more that the key to Unilocaling bliss isn’t necessarily PM functionality on the Unilocal smartphone apps. Don’t get me wrong — I’d take that if I could get it, but if I could name one new feature to include in the next Unilocal software rollout, what I like to see is a check-​box for each friend/​follower that let’s me get a notification when that person wins an ROTD. What do you say, Jeremy S. This would be something similar to the current feature that lets us indicate if we want to get check-​in notifications for a given user.
While we’re on the subject of keys, I helped my pasta-​crazed compadre negotiate the final deal on her first «new» car a while back — a 2007 Mazda3 very similar to the 2012 model I bought last year. Her car was in excellent condition, but it only came with one key, so the first thing I told her to do was have it copied. Like most late-​model cars, the keys for the Mazda3 have an embedded computer chip and can’t be copied without special equipment. I’ve read horror stories about what car-​dealers charge for this sort of copy. I hit Unilocal,and it pointed me to Mountain View Lock & Safe Co. They quoted a price of $ 70 to copy a car key with an embedded computer chip.
We figured we’d kill two birds with one stone — my PCC and I went out to celebrate her new wheels and have the new key made. Given that the locksmith was in Mountain View, she chose Vaso Azzurro (her favorite restaurant on Castro Street) which happens to be on the opposite side of the very same block as the locksmith — sometimes, it’s definitely better to be lucky than good! We got there a half an hour before closing and there was no one in the shop. There were no other customers in the shop, so I figured we’d be in and out quickly. A staffer came out from the back when we came in, and said they’d «be with us in a minute». We looked around and chatted for five minutes, then ten…
The staffer came out again and said, «It’ll just be another minute». I took out my Droid and starting taking pictures to pass the time…
After we had been waiting for more than twenty-​five minutes, the staffer came out again; this time she asked what we needed, then took the key and got the locksmith started on making the copy. She suggested we bring the car around the back so he could try it when the copy was done. We went and got the car, and in the five minutes it took for us to repark it, the copy was done, and it worked perfectly!
Were it not for the twenty-​five minute wait, this would have been a five star experience. I might have still given them five stars if we had been told when we came in that we’d have to wait or come back later. Still, when they finally did the work, we had no complaints about the quality or the price, so I’ll say the bottom line was still AOK, and give them three stars.

This is a wonderful place. It’s where our property managers recommend we get our electronic garage door openers.
After a rainy bike ride, my door opener stopped lighting up and stopped opening the door. We changed the battery, but it still wasn’t lighting up, so we didn’t even test it again, we just brought it here hoping to buy a new one and have it programmed to the same frequency. They told us the light wasn’t working for some reason, but that it was still sending out a signal, so we should try it one more time before spending our money.
We did, and it worked, and we saved about $ 40! Great, honest place. So so refreshing.
