I have been seeing Dr. Tan for more than 12 years. My first pregnancy was high risk with complication. Dr. Tan was able to detect the complication very early. In stead of trying to deliver the baby herself, she selflessly contacted the specialist at Stanford who can best handle this kind of complicated pregnancy and continue to followed up with the specialist until my delivery of a healthy baby.
Without specialist care and Dr. Tan early detection and caring, the outcome could be very different.
My second pregnancy was normal and delivered by Dr. Tan without any complication.
Dr. Tan is excellent and caring doctor and I have referred many of my relatives and friends to her.

I had several prenatal visits with Dr. Tan and was happy with her knowledge, competence, skill and forthrightness. Her staff was respectful of my time and very punctual. She does give you a lot of information very quickly up front, and prefers if you wait until she is finished to ask your questions. But she will spend as much time as you need answering questions in a straight forward manner. However, she does also consistently, persistently and forcefully encourage you to follow very rigid standard of care guidelines, and requires you to be firm if you want to deviate based on your particular preferences or circumstances.
I switched mostly because I moved and wanted a doctor who could deliver my baby at a hospital closer to home, but I have to say that I prefer my new doctor’s approach and bedside manner because she is more willing to work with you to make decisions rather than dictating a course of action based on admittedly great credentials and a broad base of experience.
Whether you stick with Dr. Tan really depends on your personal approach and preferences, but either way her experience and ability certainly do not fail to instill the confidence that is of the utmost importance when you need to rely on the care, skill and judgment of an OB.

My appointment was at 2:15. I showed up at 2:01, knowing that I’m suppose to filled out paperwork as a new patient. The receptionist didn’t greet me as I signed in. She was on the phone, and was still on the phone when I got out from my chair 10 minutes later.
«I“ll be with you in a minute,» she says. I sit down.
Quite honestly, I don’t care that you’re on the phone telling the other doctor’s office that Dr. Tan also doesn’t like to be put on hold, nor that your office is busy and that you don’t have to time to call people back, or that Shin (a patient?) is suppose to get a blood test, and fast for 12 hours. I mean, seriously, ever heard of HIPPA? Privacy?
Anyway, when 2:25 came around, and the receptionist still did not acknowledge me, I decided that since I’m paying for service, and this will be a doctor I will continue to see, I decided I will not tolerate the bad service. No thanks.
(Besides, some Unilocalers claims she’s not the most friendly. Seriously, I do not need someone like that.)
I would get it 0 star if Unilocal has the option.

If you want the best care for the Mother and Baby then Dr. Tan is one of the best. If you want someone to repeat things over and over again, hold your hand, or be your friend then move along.
She delivers babies and she expects you to do your part.
If you’re the father, Rose is going to give you a piece of her mind then take care of the mother’s needs.

My story with Connie Tan was not pleasant memory in all.
Overcharged office vist, horrible customer service, unfriendly consultation.
1. Receptionist, was helpful to put me into their very busy schedule.
2. Arrival. I talked to receptionist again that I am not pregnant, and I need a consultation clearly!
3. Filled out paper. I clearly wrote it down that I just did a yearly check-​up at Palo Alto Medical Foundation and I don’t need another one, only for consultation. As a result, they charge me for that.
4. Meeting in Dr. Tan. It was not nice conversation. I told her clearly that I had already did my check-​up. She is impatient and not helpful. She just did another lab-​work, which was pretty rough.
5. 1 month later, I got a overcharged office vist bill.
Sadly, my friends had bad experiences as well.

I work nearby in Mountain View at Google and just called to see if I could get an appointment today with Dr. Tan. The receptionist was condescending, rude, and completely unhelpful.
My old gynecologist in Palo Alto moved to another district some time last year, and I’d put off looking for a regular gyno since then. Since I had an urgent issue that I wanted to get taken care of today, I was hoping to come in as a new patient and get treated, and then hopefully use Dr. Tan as my regular in the future. I’m insured by Blue Shield PPO, and this woman on the phone treated me like I was some sort of leper.
DO NOT USE THIS DOCTOR. Unless she fires the horrid woman she has working for her, it’s probably not worth it to see her.

I’ve been going to Dr. Tan for the last three years, and I’m not about to go anywhere else. She’s very good at her job, and very trustworthy with her diagnoses. Her staff is great too, and they’re always patient and friendly whenever I have questions. The most important thing to remember with Dr. Tan is to let her talk before you ask any questions, because she’ll answer most of them in her monologue. She reminds me of my mom sometimes, including offering unsolicited motherly advice. She’s very efficient and speaks quickly, which some patients may feel like they’re being ‘rushed.’ On the contrary, Dr. Tan is always happy to answer questions and stay with you until you’re satisfied.
I adore Dr. Tan and her office, and she’s an extremely competent and careful ob/​gyn.

Dr Tan is good, smart and trustable but I’m totally agreed that she treats you very impersonal which isn’t nice. I have also problem with he accent, because she talks super fast and with chinese accent sometimes she’s not really clear.
but the worse thing is her assistant (I think her name is Rose) she is rude, very bossy and impatient, few time I saw her screaming at the poor secretary in front of other patients. she kind of like to ignore or talk about you with Dr in a way that you are invisible!
I think the only reason she is working there is that she’s chinese.

I realize that in my original review, I sounded like a goon who believes anything she reads on the internet.

In any case, Dr. Tan is a competent doctor, and I want my health care providers to correct me and educate me. However, I need someone who’s willing to consider recent research evidence from well-​conducted studies (and read drug package inserts?) and have some sort of respectful doctor-​patient dialogue before sticking with her original stance.

I saw Dr. Tan in the mid ‘90s when I was pregnant. Yes she is competent and experienced, but I found her style to be off putting and rushed. You need to be very prepared with your questions because she moves on quickly and has precise answers as opposed to giving you pros & cons or discussing options. I left her practice because that’s not how I like to interact with my doctors. I prefer an approach that is more consultative and interactive. She came across as overly efficiently and not particularly warm and friendly.

I’ve been going to Dr Tan for at least 10 years. She is smart, competent and thorough. She gives you a lot of information quickly and is very knowledgeable. I see her each year and it’s very nice to sit in her office and have a conversation about all my medical details — before going to the exam room. I rarely have to wait for my appointment as she is timely and her long time nurse Rose is wonderful as well.
I have read a lot of medical information as well and would take Dr Tan’s advice over the NY Times any day.

Dr. Tan is like a mother. An experienced mother. She’s a little intimidating and will lecture you if you are not taking care of yourself properly. You quickly learn to listen, because she seems to be really knowledgeable. Over the years, she has instructed me on a number of things (using diagrams and 3-​D figures) and given me advice that no other doctor did (like how to do the pelvic exercises).
I’ve also had the ultrasound exam done in her office. The male doctor performing the exam was extremely careful, very friendly and did not make the situation feel uncomfortable at all. (Note: I typically only see female gynos.)
In sum, I agree with Eric K — let her talk first.

Watch out for Dr.Tan.
Key here is… Let her talk first. Shes been doing this for years and there is a high likelihood that she will cover your items in question if you dont interrupt her.
Dr Tan is associated with el camino hospital, so you will be in good hands from that standpoint as well.
One of the cool things she has also is her own ultrasound machine in her office so you dont have another set of appts to make and keep.
Overall, nothing but nice things to say ab oput dr tan.
