History

Established in 1961.

Amato Automotive Began in the Chicago area where Mr. John Amato owned and operated a very successful, if small, Ford Dealership. In 1961, he sold that dealership and purchased what would become Southgate Ford on Milwaukee’s South Side. John’s longtime dream was to own and operate an Oldsmobile franchise, and that dream came true in 1980, when Mr. Amato purchased what became John Amato Oldsmobile, Inc.

By 1984, his franchise was outgrowing it’s location, and in 1984, John purchased a seven-​acre parcel on North 76^th St in Milwaukee. This location would later become the Hyundai franchise.

After 30 gratifying years in the business, John Amato sold this dealership to his son, John S. Amato. John would further build the business, adding it’s own finance company in 1993, Preferred Credit Corporation, as well as an in-​company Bodyshop.

In August 1998, the company purchased a Ford franchise in Mukwonago, and the property where the Nissan franchise would be built on was purchased in 2000.
