We came with 5 kids(cousins), ranging from 2 to 9 years old. The sole purpose was to dig for diamonds on the last day of spring break. We occupied the top 3 rooms upstairs. Right when we walked in to change clothes for the park(we had been there 5 minutes) the manager comes to us and says that we need to keep the kids quiet. We didn’t even have time to be loud! We get back that night around 9, and immediately get the kids in the tub. The people below us start banging on the ceiling. Here comes the manager… This is all understandable if we were college kids puking off the balcony at 3 in the morning… But we weren’t. The manager approached us with hostility and a complete lack of customer service. Our kids huddled together in one of the rooms whispering for the rest of the night. We were afraid to turn the tv on, and my 6 year old didn’t want to turn her toothbrush on because she was afraid it would make too much noise. We are not rambunctious people, and would not allow our kids to be crazy monkeys that bounce off the wall. Yes, they were excited to be together, but no, they weren’t jumping on/off the beds etc. We just felt that the situation was not handled well at all.(Funny note– we asked if the floors were insulated in between the floors, because it did echo when you simply walked to the bathroom– manager said yes it is insulated. Funny, she told that to the wrong people, because we are in construction, and have been for 15 years. They are NOT insulated– heck, we didn’t even have a shower head in our shower, just a pipe protruding out of the wall. The other two rooms of ours had shower heads, must have been an upgrade.) Needless to say, we will not being staying there again, and I’d advise anyone with kids to stay away from there as well.

We didn’t have high expectations and you probably shouldn’t either. This is the middle of nowhere, Arkansas, people. Don’t get your panties in a twist expecting the Ritz, because upscale and classy, the Little Shamrock is not. It’s a side of the road mom and pop shop, the room smells a bit musty, the building is old. Deal with it. You came here to dig in the dirt at Crater of Diamonds park anyway, so get used to the grit. They let you check-in late — really late. My husband and I arrived around 1am, and we rang the night bell. We even locked our key in our room when we went to the convenience store next door and had to wake up the manager again. I felt really bad, but he was super nice anyway, and gave us a set of extra keys to keep for our stay. I understand the Queen of Diamonds down the street doesn’t allow check-ins after 10pm. I felt safe here too. Which is more than I can say for some other rinky-dink motels I’ve been to in the past. There’s nothing more important than that. Heck, who knows, perhaps staying at the Little Shamrock will bless you with the luck of the Irish. We left town with quartz, jasper and calcite. Maybe you’ll be the one of the chosen few who unearths a coveted diamond.
