Doke Sushi

Very simple and clean inside. I must have gone on the right day and the right time because there was no wait to be seated and the food was ready in a flash. The quality in fish and presentation doesn’t get any better (good cuts, very fresh). They were however a little stingy with the ginger but when I asked for more, she had no problem bringing me extra. One thing I’m always offended at when I go to sushi restaurants is how expensive nigiri is as it’s just rice and a thin slice of fish… So I wasn’t too thrilled when I saw that an order (2 pieces) here was $ 5 but in their defense, it was pretty amazing. I’m a yellowtail fan so my attention went straight to the grasshopper roll. I thought the tempura asparagus seemed out of place so I substituted shrimp tempura and it was everything I had hoped for, although I probably should have asked to hold the sauce. Not because it was bad but because I’m just not a big sauce fan. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that our waitress was also one of the owners and she was very friendly and attentive. There’s nothing really that I could legitimately complain about.

This is the best sushi around. I drive the extra time to Murphys just to get there rolls with fresh crab. That’s the next way to describe it– everything is just so fresh & taste so good. End of story.

Amazing sushi! We live in Sonora & this is definitely worth the drive to Murphy’s if your into sushi. They have lots of raw options as well as fully cooked options. Calaveras roll was my favorite… But everything we tried was to die for. No joke. Must try!!! Good idea to call for reservations as the business is pretty small.

we just tried this place for the first time today. as soon as we entered we saw lila. right then i knew we were in for a surprise! as we remember her from the burger bar, (back when it rocked that is). the personality is awesome, atmosphere too is awesome, the food is VERY GOOD! Sushi is better than bewok!!! now thats saying something as i really like bewok, at least i did up till now. we once again have a restaurant to look forward to going to once again. life is good again! everyone needs to eat here! atleast as long as there is a table for us that is. keep up the good work. did i mention the great food? yum yum yum. i bet most people are unaware that the gold country had precious gems. this place is one!

Delicious food and a very friendly staff! The rolls were all amazing! I also enjoyed the tempura veggies and veggie udon. We will be back!

Would like to say we had a very pleasant dining experience at Doke! Sushi was great. They made us feel welcome and catered to our needs. Clean, cute, and most of all great customer service! The food was 5 stars! We have dined at some of the best Sushi spots in California. This place is up there but most of all was the up most politeness and service. Thank you Doke! Can’t wait to see you again!

The waitress we had was a sweetheart. Always making sure we were good with everything whether it be with drinks or the food. The complaint I have first was my glass of wine. It was poured quite light! I expect a glass of wine to be a normal full glass if I’m paying the expected price. Also the yellowtail was quite fishy which leads me to believe it was not fresh. (She did take it off our tab) The rest of our sushi was great!

Went here for lunch today and had the Calaveras Roll with real crab meat. They give you the choice of imitation crab meat or the real thing. I am willing to pay more for the real thing. It was delicious. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and was beautifully presented. YUMMY!!! I will definitely return when I am back in the area. Be advised that they closed from 2:30−5 on the days they are open, but that seems to be very normal in Murphys.

Clearly the quality of the food and atmosphere has gone down hill since Jimmy, Megan, and the other girl left. I was very disappointed today… I don’t know if I will go back or not :(Doke used to be my favorite place to eat. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve been in, but clearly I haven’t missed anything. I am so very sad. Jimmy come back!

A sushi place in Murphys? This place is amazing! Spent the New Year weekend in Murphys and ate here 2 times out of the 4 day visit. The food was awesome, server was friendly and courteous. It’s a small place, but they a accommodated our party of 6 without a problem. If you enjoy sushi, treat yourself and stop in the Calaveras roll was out of this world.

I hate to compare, but I’m an LA girl who’s snobby when it comes to Sushi. This place surprised me above and beyond. The rolls are unique and full of flavor and fresh fresh. I always worry when I’m in a small town, There’s no need for worry here. I’ve been her three times in the last couple months and I will be back. It’s small so make a reservation or get it to go.

I was pleased they were accommodating to seating us without reservations. On some level, I wish that we hadn’t gotten in.
Obviously, we weren’t expecting fresh crab in the california rolls (it was not) but we did expect the tempura to be hot, the hot sake tasted «off». When we couldn’t drink it, we were told that it had an almond flavor… yuck.
The bento box had the tepid tempura, the sesame chicken was made of dehydrated chicken… Double yuck!
The young lady with the tatted sleeves was cool and very attentive! Kudos to her.
Stick with the bbq chicken, that was real. The salad was good. Will not return!

We ordered the caterpillar roll and the firecracker roll. The sushi here is consistently good. The place is small so there might be a wait, however, it’s so worth it. This is our go to spot when we come to Murphy’s. Their rolls are reasonably priced $ 12-​$ 15 a roll.

The food is good. But, we called to place a to go order that we would pick up at the restaurant and were told by the female server that answered that she was too busy to take our order and had too many tables to wait on and that we would have to call back later and maybe she could take our order then. And, she said all of that quite rudely. I was polite.
A simple, I’m sorry but we won’t be able to take your order at this time, would have been okay. She seemed to want to make us feel bad for calling the restaurant. I would suggest that this server be trained in customer service. I won’t go to Doke again even though I do like the food. Her attitude was awful.

Amazing sushi. The super secret roll hit mine and my girlfriends perfect cravings which is something rarely done. Service was excellent. Would happily recommend and return.

If you love a fabulous selection of divinely made sushi, a variety of marvelously fresh sashimi to salivate over, and an array of other Japanese delicacies… you will need to call ahead to make a reservation… or be staying nearby and carry out!
Serene is amazing… loving… kind… a hugger… and maker of new friends! All of these qualities are reflected in her customer care. We were surpised that there’s been a new chef… cross trained by the outgoing chef… without missing a beat, the quality has remained top notch at the 5-​star standard we’ve come to expect. OH, and the other server (Serene’s sister… I feel bad I cannot think of her name), stopped by our table and introduced herself to us… she’s just as focused on service and sweet as Serene.
Get there as soon as a table opens… and enjoy this delightful anomaly out in the middle of the Sierra Nevada foothills, mid-​Main St in Murphy’s, CA… nestled among 21ish tasting rooms pouring wonderful wines!
Oh, have a glass of Four Winds Chardonnay with your meal! Heck, just get a bottle… Serene will happily get it for you.

Sushi Doke is an amazing find! We looked in the window while walking around Murphys. We came back at dinner time. Luckily they were able to seat us without a reservation. 10 people were turned away soon after because they were booked up.

Love sushi? The next time you’re in Murphy go to Sushi Doke. It’s a family run business and they make you feel at home. Megan was our server and she was awesome.

Decent sushi that should satisfy your cravings, while visiting Calaveras County.
Service is warm and welcoming, they serve Orion beer (one of the few remaining imported Japanese beers that haven’t succumbed to the scum that is Anheuser-​Busch or Molson-​Eh) and the pan fried udon noodles with beef are AMAZING!!!
Check them out, then spend some time (and money) in the quaint shops of Murphys.
