J & J Butcher Shop offers an extraordinary selection of fresh beef, pork, veal and lamb as well as All Natural poultry cut to order. Exotic game includes ostrich, buffalo, elk, antelope, wild boar, kangaroo, venison, alligator, rattlesnake, frogs’ legs, pheasant, rabbit, quail, duck, goose. and guinea hens which can be special ordered (quantity restrictions may apply). Condiments, oils, vinegars, spices and custom freezer orders also available. We grind our own sirloin, chuck, and meatloaf mix (beef, pork, and veal). Don’t leave without tasting Mark’s own homemade She Crab Soup.

History

Established in 2002.

After 38 years as a butcher for Giant Foods in Washington D. C area, Ralph Robinson retired and moved to Murrells Inlet. He and his wife Debbie opened Ralph’s Butcher Shop in 2002. After a few years of truly wanting to retire to playing golf every day, Ralph sold the shop. In January 2014, the business was purchased by Mark McKay, but Ralph can still be seen daily in the shop giving Mark a hand, and allowing Mark to benefit from his years of experience.

Mark has had his own business of one kind or another fobinsor over 10 years. Having started in law enforcement in Florence SC, his home town, over 30 years ago. Mark has always had a passion for preparing and serving food and in the food service industry. So when he had the opportunity to purchase J & J Butcher Shop and learn the trade from a Master Butcher Ralph Robinson, he jumped at the chance. Mark and wife, Betsy, a Registed Nurse at Carolina Bone and Joint Surgery Center, live in Surfside Beach. They have two daughters, a son-​in-​law and one very special and smart granddaughter. Mark has truly enjoyed meeting and getting to know his customers at the Butcher Shop.
