Fame Recording Studios

Absolutely loved it. I recommend watching the documentary first so you can keep up with the wealth of information you are provided with. If you are looking for an smarmy, slick, produced tour with updated furniture and snacks then don’t bother, this tour is not for you. If you love the sound of southern pop, rock and blues and are serious about it’s fascinating history then this tour is a must!
This is the original building with the old sound booths, furniture, instruments and ambiance that you would have encountered in the sixties and seventies. You could feel the history around you. I wanted to sit on the furniture that Etta James sat on. Heck I wanted to rub myself all over it! You could picture Duane Allman sleeping in the parking lot waiting to be noticed by Rick Fox. I thought the building and everything in it was beautiful.
The tour guide is a musician and sound engineer and he knows his stuff. My husband and I were the only ones here on a Saturday morning and we got the guide all to ourselves. He gave his historical points but he also talked to us. My husband was a drummer back in the day and they ended up just chatted away reminiscing and talking shop, sound, music and instruments.
I left giggling like a school girl I was so excited about just being in this building and talking about the music. I encourage anyone and everyone in the area to check it out. A true music lover will be in heaven.

They only have tours at 9 am and 4 pm. And they don’t seem to organized. We got there at 10:30 and found out about hours. So we came back the next day at 8:45. We stood outside on a dirty dark porch with beat up furniture from the 60s. Threadbare porch couch. People went in and ignored 6 of us waiting to get in. No employee even acknowledged us. 5 after 9 we boldly walked on and asked for tickets. They said they don’t sell tickets but someone would be in shortly. Cost was $ 10. Finally at 9:25 some sleepy 20 something came on and stated he was an intern. He kept calling us «dude» and used the term insane to describe everything. He was obviously impressed with his employer but he did not share any great info about studio a or b. That was the tour. He referred to the documentary which we knew of from visiting the muscle shoals music hall which was really great. I realize the historical value of the place and it is still a working recording studio so I give it a 3 star. But without that it is an old 1960 building that hasn’t been improved in years other than recording studio euipment. Sorry
