Tried this place based on reviews! First order of business, service was horrendous! It took forever to get drinks refilled and our server just appeared to be very unhappy and bitter, not pleasant! The basket of bread, cinnamon rolls and hush puppies was quite bland and unappealing. I ordered the Cajun Oysters as an appetizer! Oysters arrived only warm, fried in old, burnt oil, and tasted like lumps of lard with a dusting of Old Bay on them. Salads arrived on warm plates, all ingredients warm and not good, at all! Oh but the piece de resistance, the«Shrimp and Grits»! Holy crap! Imagine, if you will, a scoop of instant grits bathed in scalding hot water, 5 pieces of frozen shrimp, thawed out in the microwave, covered with canned mushroom gravy, two thin slices of something remotely resembling andouille sausage, gooped all together in a shallow bowl! Just horrible, no other way to describe it. Server asked how everything was and I told her that it was all pretty bad. She said, «Oh, I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it» and dropped off the tab with a 20% discount. Laughable! If you like good seafood you need to stay far away from this place! You’ve been warned!

First of all, I TRIED to post this review on TripAdvisor before we ever left the restaurant and somehow it is still«pending approval» by TripAdvisor. letting me know that TripAdvisor’s reviews are skewed. Read on… We had a 7 pm reservation and while we had to wait a few minutes for our entire party to arrive, that was the best part of the evening. The food was the most bland that I’ve had in all of my 64 years. Salmon was overcooked/dry. We had to wait forever for this bad food. Entrees did not come out until over an hour after we were seated. My son had to send his lemonade back because it had an unrecognizable particle floating in it and I have a photo of a piece of ice from the REPLACEMENT glass which still had another foreign object in it. The servers were less than experienced. The price of this was definitely not in line with the food or service. would never recommend this place to anyone I’ve ever met. The manager NEVER checked on us, either. For a party of this size? Seriously? Take my advice. Don’t eat here.

One of my favorite restaurants in Myrtle Beach. Best fried seafood at the beach. Consistently great food and service keeps me coming back year after year

The grilled salmon was perfect and went well with the baked potato and salad! I love their hush puppies and the cinnamon rolls at the end is a sweet treat! Everyone at our table had a great meal! They’re definitely worth the wait!

The food and service was top notch. Jennifer was our server for a party of 10 and she was very attentive and went over the top to take care of us. Our table had shrimp in 6 different ways and all were amazing. The bread, cinnamon rolls and hushpuppies were all so good you couldn’t stop eating them. This is a must visit place. They had early bird from 4:30 — 6:00 and call ahead seating. Take advantage of both.

Advertise Big Red crab legs and were not served big reds. We r locals and food was horrible. Not only was good horrible but I got deathly sick and ended up in the hospital for 2 days. When contacted restaurant twice no one ever bothered to call me back.

The food here is delicious. We made a point to come here again this year after accidentally stumbling upon it last year. The bowl of hush puppies and cinnamon rolls are to die for and the fried flounder is by far the best. The only thing lacking is the service in the sense that we made a «reservation» and still had to wait a half hour after our«reservation» to be seated. But it was still worth it.

Not so great! Hair in the salad(offered another salad, no thanks). Steak over cooked. Mahi mahi was supposed to come with shrimp and capers… none. Find another sea food restaurant. This was below average!

Excellent. Very generous portions, cooked to fried perfection. Wait. Staff was super knowledgable and attentive. Cost for dinner was comparable to lunch prices at similar restaurant. Wish I had taken a photo, but…

Finally a restaurant that gets it. Very personable service and attention to deal. They didn’t just seat us in the first available spot — they offered us the best seat in the house free at that time. Most restaurants don’t care. The food was excellent. We had the seafood platter that was plentiful and delicious. We splurged and went fried. It was a light batter n cooked to perfection. The complementary fish stew was such a treat. Really enjoyed their homemade salad dressings, and tater sauce. They packaged up our desserts to go very carefully. The key lime pie was tops. My husband had the bread pudding and he said it was a solid 8.

Very average. Atmosphere is dull and old. The food was bland and the price was high. The server was very nice and people are friendly.

Awesome food! If you are over 60 and want flounder, shrimp, and devil crab try their senior meal. I could not believe the serving we received. We got the broiled and it was some of the best I have eaten. The bread basket was great, we took our cinnamon roll home for breakfast. I also enjoyed the cup of fish stew. Good service also.

I’ve been visiting Myrtle Beach(I have family there) for almost 30 years and somehow had never been to Chesapeake House. I visited for the first time over the Christmas holiday and had a pleasant experience. Décor is classic old-school seafood restaurant. Dark wood, dim lighting, and loads of nautical knick-knacks. I loved it. Our server was prompt, extremely attentive, and was quick to offer helpful suggestions. They offer a variety of seafood combination platters along with all the classics and, based on our server’s recommendations, we all went with combo platters. A fun surprise was the cinnamon rolls that were served along with the bread and hush puppies with honey butter. A little decadent perhaps but when in Rome… Next out were dinner salads and their«World Famous Fish Stew.» The salads were unremarkable but the fish stew got mixed reviews from our table. Several of my fellow diners felt it had a touch too much vinegar but I enjoyed it as something a little different. However, I don’t think I’d want a large bowl. The cup that comes with the entrée, really a tasting portion, was about the right size serving. Another pleasant surprise was that on the Combination Platter, diners can choose the preparation for each element of the platter and aren’t limited to just«broiled» or «fried.» For example, I got grilled shrimp, sautéed scallops, and fried flounder. The seafood was all fresh and well prepared. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and the food and will definitely add Chesapeake House to my list of fav seafood spots in Myrtle Beach.

My family and I have come here for years when we visit Myrtle Beach. We decided to come again this year because we always get a quality meal. We came with a party of 8 and made reservations, I highly recommend making them or else you will wait for at least 1 hour. We were seated once our entire table arrived and waited on within seconds. We put in our drink orders and then looked at the menu. We all ordered seafood — of course. I ordered the shrimp platter which I always do — and it was as good as usual. I got my shrimp grilled and it came out super. The rest of the table had gotten flounder, the seafood platter, crab cakes, and the grilled Mahi. Everyone enjoyed their meals and were very satisfied. However, the service wasn’t as good as it normally is. Our waiter was very attentive to start and then sort of forgot we were there. We had to ask what the specials were — he didn’t tell us, we had to ask for refills a few times, and he wasn’t personable at all. I will give him the benefit of the doubt though because I think they were very under-staffed and he had way too many tables. He gave us our food and we really never saw him again until we had gotten the check. It was odd how unfriendly he was — but having a good meal made that better. I would certainly go back to Chesapeake, I’m just hoping we get better service next time — or it will no longer be a regular spot for us!

Favorite seafood restaurant in myrtle beach. Very retro 70s style. Fresh bread, hush puppies, and cinnamon rolls brought to table. Very clean and one of the few seafood places I will eat at because I have a severe shellfish allergy.

Thank you Chesapeake, my port in the storm, my long lost friend. Being new to the Myrtle Beach scene, and feeling utterly lost amidst the endless Calabash parade of buffets and megastaunts. We came upon you feeling uncertain and left satisfied. So much so we fed the gators after dinner. If your experience sounds like mine, do yourself a favor and drop by. Get the Flounder or King Crab and enjoy.

This place is extremely overrated! We read several good/great reviews for Chesapeake House prior to dining. We either picked our meals very poorly or this place is extremely overrated. My wife had the fantail shrimp which was sautéed — taste was average at best. And at $ 21.95 way over priced for the portion size. I had the scallops which were grilled — again flavor was average at best. And again at $ 26.95 way over priced. We both had baked potatoes as our side, which come wrapped in tin foil. They ask you to prepare them yourself by splitting, adding butter and sour cream — which is fine but again based on the meal cost seems like a slap in the face. Additionally our salads were very pathetic — 1 piece of cucumber, a few slivers of carrot, 2 croutons and the rest was old lettuce. The kids meals were fine but also cost $ 9 each because the cost of drinks are not included. Really?!! The service was average just like the food. The table, chairs and décor is very dated. The best part of the meal was the bread basket which ironically is the only thing everyone gets at no charge.
