Compass Cove Resort

Booked a one night stay here for the wife and kids. The staff are very professional and courteous. Unfortunately that is about all the good I can say.
1. Resort is very dated and just plain beat up.
2. The hallway and roomed smelled terrible. Our «non-​smoking» room smelled like stale cigarette smoke.
3. I am baffled how this place has a 3 star rating.
4. The pictures and video on their website make it look amazing but, trust me, it is not.
5. The beach was filled with garbage such as cigarette butts, rags, candy wrappers and other debris. (Not necessarily their fault.)
6. Lots of thug-​like guests wandering around. Very loud and playing music loudly.
7. The pool, dining and other amenities are very small in proportion to the number of rooms it has. Translated: it’s crowded and expect to be elbow to elbow in the pool.
We ended up leaving early and won’t be coming back.

Wonderful resort. Very clean and staff is lovely and very accommodating. Please don’t listen to any negative reviews. This place truly is wonderful!

I found this place 3 years ago through friends who stay here a lot. It’s first a great location not a lot of heavy traffic getting back to hwy 17. They have indoor an outdoor pools an jacuzzi. Plus lazy rivers an being a guest you have free access to rent DVDs from redbox or similar. They have a bar and grill right at the pool if you wanna leave the pool or beach. I’ve stayed in the suite which is 3 rooms loved it an recently just 1 room w 2 queen beds an kitchenette. The staff an room service very friendly I will always stay here.

This review is for room 551 in the Pinnacle building that is advertised as a Ocean View, King Bed, Efficiency room. First off the hallway smells of mildew and there were no highly visible signs to the elevators from the 3^rd floor parking deck. The room is a very nice size and I couldn’t hear any noise from the hallway. The stove is filthy and old with visible food in every nook and crany. Yes the room needs updated but for the most part the room is average for a cheesy Myrtle Beach Resort. In Myrtle Beach get what you pay for and at $ 350 for two nights you get the lower end of average (minus the stove). The nasty stove shows serious lack of respect for the customers and is a simple fix. If the stove was clean I would have rated this resort room 3 stars for being average but needing a little updating. A filthy anything in a room is unacceptable. Very unhappy customer. I won’t be calling down to the desk because this review with pictures will hopefully have the desired affect of notifying management to really take a look at how the rooms are being maintained.

If I could give a minus, I would have. HORRIBLE customer service, rooms are average, probably could have gotten the same room at a local Motel 6. I would NOT recommend this place, save your money.

It was a good experience for the price. Check in time is supposed to be 3:00PM but our room was not ready when we arrive around 3:30PM. The parking lot buildings (three separate parking) were completely FULL. We had to drive around a while and wait for someone to get out. Once we arrived to our room, I fell in love with the beach view. After a while of being in the room, I noticed the dining chairs had not been cleaned. There was food from previous guest on both dining chairs. There is two air conditioner in the room but only one was working. Overall it was a good experience. Didn’t have any mayor complaints.

We have stayed at this resort several times now. Very clean rooms and also affordable. There are an abundance of amenities from indoor and outdoor pools, water slides, and hot tubs. In addition to this, they have a tiki bar by the pool and an onsite restaurant. Looking forward to visiting again this year.

Absolutely worst stay ever in Myrtle. The pictures posted on the website are very deceiving. The resort is very outdated. Repair and updating is need to the whole resort. Beware of cockroaches and used pregnancy tests.
During the first night of stay, I found cockroaches under the kitchen cabinets. When management was alerted, they said it was no big deal and this is not common. After reading reviews, bugs are in fact common at this resort. Management could have cared less about the bugs. We were placed in a new room that night that wasn’t clean and in disrepair. If it were not 11:00pm at night with a dog, we would have moved to a different resort.
The pools smelled of dried urine. The clientele of this resort is questionable.
The next day, in yet another room, we found a used pregnancy test! The third room was inspected by the housekeeping manager. Naturally, we were moved to yet another room, where we were downgraded. Naturally, the two night stay was terrible and with lots of work the entire visit was free.
If you have problems while staying, don’t be afraid to speak with the manager. They can definitively give you a discounted or free stay.

Family and budget friendly.
Right the Beach with both indoor and outdoor pools and lazy rivers.
Great views from upper floors.
This Property is on older side and could use some updates, deep cleaning and with maintenance.
Our check-​in could have been better, check in agent started out OK but picked up the phone to answer a call and things started to go downhill fast as she was trying to do too many things at once.
She was check in us in, dealing with phone call and help an other agent all at the as time, she lost her focus in talking with us at check-​in.
She should not be multitasking, she was not good at it.
Everybody involved got less than what they deserve experience.
We found a pleasurable stay at this property look forward to another visit sometime.

We have been staying as part of their snowbird winter rental package and love it. We have a beautiful oceanfront suite on the 15^th floor
The amenities awesome and we’ll maintained.
There is a restaurant and bar with regular entertainment and good food. The drinks are a bit pricey, but comparable to most resorts.
It’s only 1 mile to the airport which is very convenient.
The housekeeping staff are very professional, friendly and do a great job. We like having the same housekeeper each day instead of random people.
The view is awesome. The sun rises right in our balcony each day and we can see the spingmaid and 2^nd Avenue piers from the balcony.

Got a very good deal in late Fall for the family. Nice location right on the beach. Kids really liked the water features, especially the lazy river. Worth the value, but don’t expect a luxurious resort.

I chose this hotel because my online search criteria was that (a) it had to have an airport shuttle because we were flying in and not going to rent a car and (b) have free breakfast because, well, i always look for that. Well if anyone out there reading reviews has the same checklist, i can offer advice not to chose this place just for those reasons. Because the location is so far from anything interesting that myrtle beach has to offer so the free ride to the airport isnt worth saving $ 15 on a cab ride, and theres a pancake house on every corner that has $ 2.99 breakfast specials, so again, not a reason to chose Compass Cove. Especially since Compass Cove charges a $ 20 per person per day «resort fee», which i dont feel their amenities are so much superior to other myrtle beach hotels to warrant it.
But moving on.
I called their 1888 number before i booked &, not to voice profile, but it sounded like an older white southern man who may not have been heterosexual. I asked about the shuttle, if it was 24 hours & he said «yes its 24 hours. Just make sure you call in advance so you’re not waiting at the airport». Well i did this i called from LaGuardia before takeoff & the lady who answered said i have to call from the MB airport. I told her what the other guy had said and she snipped «Ma’am I’ve been working here for 3 years and that’s never been the case.» So i would have rated this place 3 stars because of her rudeness but another employee, Marcus the pool guy was so sincerely nice and genuine and helpful that he boosted the rating up to 4 stars.
Anywho, the room itself was standard, no problems, not dirty. It had a DVD player & they offered free DVD rentals so we watched Get Hard & TMNT. Luckily id read the reviews and when they tried to stick me in 146 on the 1^st floor, id already been warned of the obstructed view because of bushes & lawn chairs. So i requested to be higher up & that was honored and rewarded with a decent view of the ocean.
The breakfast was great. But there is very little to eat for lunch/​dinner in close walking distance. Its all hotels surrounding CC. We walked 10 blocks for Waffle House.
The lazy river is nice.
I guess this place is ok for the golfers driving to the courses or someone who wants peace and quiet and isolation. Not for someone looking for excitement and party time.

This is our first time staying here. We’re staying in the Pinnacle. So far I’m pretty impressed! The parking garage is well lit & spacious. The balcony faces the ocean and is actually private, no angled rooms beside you so people can look in. Room is well equipped with full size fridge, stove with oven, micowave, coffee pot & dishes. There’s a full size dresser & closet to put away clothes. There’s 3 «redbox» type movie rental machines on the 1^st floor & the rentals are free. The staff have been very courteous and friendly. There are several pools & hot tubs. We tried out the water slides and man are they fast!

Wow, I am truly shocked by the bad reviews! This was a great hotel! I stayed in 2 different rooms. First 2 nights in the schooner building. It was clean. Yes it’s slightly outdated, but no different than a holiday in. Then we moved to the Mariner (I think that’s what it is called) where we had a 3 bedroom oceanfront condo. It was fantastic. Loved it. This place has many pools, lazy rivers, hot tubs and slides. Shuffle board and giant checkers. My kids ages 12 and 10 loved it. Being on the ocean was a plus. We ate at the buffet and it was good as well. My only downfall so far is Mother Nature ! Rain rain go away! But that is no fault of the hotel! Can’t figure out what people are complaining about?.

We really enjoyed our stay with our 4 year old. The grounds, pools and beach are great. Perfect pools for small children. The restaurant overlooks the ocean and is good and reasonably priced. We had an awesome oceanfront balcony and a smaller suite. The room was nice-​ish. Starting to look a bit worn and I believe the rooms are independently owned, so they may vary greatly. It is a short drive or trolley ride to the boardwalk, which we enjoyed but we’re glad we were a bit away from the chaos/​excitement down there. Overall I would say it’s a good solid family resort for the price. We all had a blast!
The negatives were the CONSTANT sopping wet floors on the main floor and elevator and a very small check in parking area and lobby. The poor cleaning lady was always mopping and thanked us for drying off before walking to our room. They were doing their best to maintain the issue, not really the resort’s fault.

I feel bad for the people who had bad experiences here — our family had a great time. The place was clean (on par with your average Holiday Inn for example), everything worked fine and the staff was friendly and helpful.
I see the pictures and read the negative reviews of the resort and I’m not sure what happened. The facility is large, so I assume some parts of it are not as new or as well maintained as others? We didn’t have any of the issues other reviews are talking about with regards to cleanliness or conditions of the appliances, etc. Also the wi-​fi worked great, there’s a perfectly adequate fitness room, and unlimited free movie rentals come with your room.
I think this place’s strong suit is the amenities, especially all the different pools and hot tubs that is has. It’s a great place for kids as a result,. There was always plenty for them to do, and the oceanfront location is perfect.
We absolutely will stay again.

We stayed here as a last minute weekend trip and was sold on the fact that the lady booking our reservation said we would get one complimentary ticket for a nearby water park, fun house, & miniature golf course per night we stayed. I specifically asked her if I would get two tickets since we were staying two nights so that my husband & I can use it on one day and she said yes. When I checked in, they only gave me one ticket and said that it was complimentary for one adult, but I could use that same ticket the next day. We were VERY disappointed because that was what was the deciding factor for which resort we chose.
Now, I wasn’t expecting the Ritz Carlton, but the room (Schooner Bldg) was definitely not worth what we paid ($ 189 the first night & $ 259 the next). The view was great as it was ocean front but it was so stuffy & felt dusty. It was a very cramped space & it was just my husband & I plus our 2 kids (7 & 1). You should know that the room comes with all the pots, pans, cutlery, plates, & cups for the stove, oven, & fridge but there weren’t any sponges or dish soap. I truly hope housekeeping washes it before another guest checks in.
The pools were ok. They prided themselves on having 9 pools but they’re all so tiny that if more than 10 people were in them it felt crowded. We found ourselves liking the pools on the Pinnacle Bldg side because they seemed more up to date. The pools on the Schooner side + the indoor pool were really old looking.
My 7yr old is a little fish so she had an amazing time spending all day in the water but I definitely wouldn’t be making a reservation here again. It’s way overpriced and not worth it. I’m guessing we’re just paying for the view.

Ok this was are first trip to Myrtle Beach, SC in the month of April 10&11 2015 and checked out on the 12. We decide to stay at Compass Cove only because of the reviews on Unilocal and online and after viewing there website it looked like a great place to stay.
Well I’m going to apologize now because this is going to be long winded but I just have to share.
Upon making reservations by phone we asked for are receipt to be emailed it never was. We had to call several times for that to even happen.
Then when we arrived at the hotel the craziness began.
It took us an hour and a half to check in. Once we got checked in we went to are room and when we went to put are key in the door right out side are door smelled like someone pee’d on the indoor out-​door carpet. Then entering the room it was that same smell. Everything in are room was very dated, dirty, and I was so grossed out!
Bathroom has rust around tub& mold, Kitchen was so dirty, on the right side of the couch there was poop on arm rest. The sides on dresser and tables there was what looked like old paint smeared on it. The bed skirt was all ratted and torn up. Went to us towel rack in the bathroom vanity and it fail.
I call the front and asked to speak to a manager I was told they would send someone to are room. Well they sent the supervisor of house keeping up. She tells us that all the rooms look like this. (What!!!) I needless to say was not to happy. After driving 5 hours to get here we all were pretty tired and just wanted to relax. I asked the house keeping Supervisor if she could tell the head manger to contact me. She said she would then I get a call from a management saying there is nothing they can do they are sold out. I was pissed.
Then we call around to other hotels in the area and they are all sold out! We were stuck.
So we decide to try to make the best of what we had to deal with. I told my husband and daughter to think like were camping.
And it gets worse.
The pool area was not clean there was no clean towels the lazy river was not even filled with water it was like walking in a puddle of water. The swimming pools were very cloudy, and some of the pools were not heated even though they stated that they were all heated.
They never cleaned are room we had to go get towels are self. Vending machine ate are money, bugs in are be and room.

If you like sleeping with ROACHES then this is the place for you.
In 2013 my family and I went to Myrtle beach for the first time, and after extensive research decided to stay at Compass Cove. The maid service was awesome, the location was good and overall we enjoyed ourselves.
We enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to stay there again when we returned during the summer of 2014 (BAD IDEA).
The first night was atrocious :-(and here’s why.
Up past my normal bedtime, I noticed something that would have been overlooked on any other night… ROACHES crawling OVER THE SHEETS OF MY BED. (I have video to prove it)
I RAN to the front desk at 2am and demanded another room. They complied and shifted us to a room on the opposite side of the property. After a sleepless night I awoke the next day with hopes of better day. Not so much.
After a day at the beach, and dinner on the promenade my family returned to our room only to find roaches crawling on the ceiling scattering on the floor.
My natural instinct was to pack our bags and leave, but my husband and I were in no shape to drive 8 hours back to Virginia. I marched to the Front Desk again, but this time I wanted to speak with the property manager.
Of course at 11pm he wasn’t available, so my husband, three-​year-​old son and I camped out in our SUV in front of the building (because we refused to sleep in another roach-​infested room) until morning.
We were greeted by the manager, he refunded our money and sent us on our way.
Overall it was the worst trip I have EVER experienced to date.
STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Stayed during the off season, so got a great rate for the size (and view!) of the room. Room seemed clean and well maintained, as did the pool area of the resort. Some parts of the hotel felt a bit dated and in need of repair, or at least a good cleaning. Didn’t really spend a whole lot of time at the resort, so I can’t say what is like during the season, or how it is if you plan to spend most of your time there.
