History

Established in 1965.

Started by Dr. David Smith, Eyes of Nanuet soon became known for its personal, friendly service. In 1992 Dr. Smith’s son, Michael, took over the family business, continuing to provide quality patient care. 1999 saw the business growth prompt a move to Nanuet. After 50 years we are proudly continuing to see some of our original patients (as well as their children and grandchildren), and delighting new customers daily.

Michael joined his father, Dr. David Smith, at Spring Valley Optical in 1990. He has been a licensed optician for over 23 years. Michael prides himself on giving exceptional care to all of our patients. Quality of service is always his first priority.

Not friendly at all. They are rude and condescending. Had issues with glasses. They do fix them but sort of always talk down to you. They will up price you on everything and watch the extras as they are slick when you order them. I will not likely go back. My glasses were ok after a few adjustments, hated going the tree e every time for above reasons. My wife’s glasses were way to strong, she told them that but they continued to insist they were right. She finally threw them away and went to another optometrist who agreed with her they were way to strong. Wasted several hundred on them as she was talked into progressives. Once again up pricing. She did not need more than mild reading glasses in the end. They changed the name but no better for it.

I’m writing this review with my 6 year old glasses on because I can’t see the computer screen with the new ones from Eyes of Nanuet. I went back and they spent an hour trying to figure out why I can’t see a computer. Not once did the guy suggest I see the Doctor, couldn’t be my script was wrong, could it? Previous Optometrist spent over an hour in the exam room.50−60 times. Which one is clearer they ask. Not at Eyes of Nanuet. Out in 10 minutes tops. They just wouldn’t even consider it may be their fault and they may have to examine my eyes again.
No worries though. There are 5 sets of eyes they’ll never have to examine again.

I visited Eyes of Nanuet for the first time and I will never go back. The doctor was wonderful but a staff member was not. I believe her name was Alicia but woah talk about unprofessional. Her attire not business wear but her attitude was the worst of it. I am not one to talk bad about someone but she made me feel 100% uncomfortable. Very rude and talked down to me as if I was the help and not a paying customer. For this reason I will not be bringing my business back to them.

This place is horrible. Never doing business here again. Ive been a customer for 5+ years, and they treat their loyal customers like garbage. Very unprofessional, lack of respect, products are very expensive and pressure to buy their more expensive products. Even the high quality products are of poor quality. I have repeatedly asked for some advice on some of their lenses and they brushed me off like i was nobody. In addition, i have bought many products there before and one time i asked for a refund on a frame that was slight bent. When i went back, all they had to say was too bad not my problem. I would not recommend this place for any incoming customer. Go to lenscrafter or any other place besides this.

I go there annually for an eye exam and glasses/​contacts per my health plan. I’m always in and out on time, no fuss. They’re also really good at being your second set of eyes as you try on new styles (because chances are you can’t see what you look like if you’re trying on new glasses).
The staff is lovely and listen to what you ask for. If I say «I’m just here for a free pair, something green» that’s what I get with no forced sales or sneaky upgrade pairs thrown in. If I say «I’d like to see something a little nicer, in the $X range» then that’s what they show me.
From the moment I call to make an appointment, to my eye exam to selecting the glasses then picking them up a week later, the process is seamless.

I love Eyes of Nanuet! The staff is so professional, attentive and very helpful. I was looking for stylish frames and could not find anything that suited me. Alisa was so pleasant and
spent a lot of time helping me pick out the perfect frame. She was so helpful and gave me honest opinions — which I really appreciated. The entire staff is so courteous and ready to accommodate. I get a lot of compliments on my frames and always recommend Eyes of Nanuet to anyone who is looking for great service and a huge selection of frames.

I’ve used Spring Valley Optical for my whole family, and my mom took me there when I was a kid. They really care about their customers and have a range of frames from basic to high end. I even gave up using my ophthalmologist and use their doctor. I recommend them to my friends often. (My daughter gets her contacts there too!)

I just picked up my new eye glasses from Spring Valley Optical. I have cornea transplants among other issues with my eyes and vision. After receiving unusually amazing service, I was sold a pair of Shamir lenses that I was told would finally fix my sight problems that in the past was not fixable with my eyes. Long Story short, I am truly amazed. For the first time in many many years I can see as I could only see in the past with contact lenses, that on a comfort level was never happy with. Spring Valley optical is the real deal. The service and expertise with cutting edge technology can not be matched. Thanks to them I can see again.

The staff is very friendly and attentive and really invest a lot of time in customer service, but their prices are quite high. I paid close to $ 700 dollars for new glasses there. I wanted a second pair and decided to go to Costco and got almost the exact same pair for $ 250.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Spring Valley Optical with my husband for prescription eyeglasses. The service and professionalism are outstanding. The reason I picked them is because they are a family business operating for almost 50 years in the community. The doctor that examined my eyes was very good, the counter staff was excellent and Kevin was very good at sizing and providing the eyewear. I would definitely go back again and tell anyone that needs glasses to give them the business.
