The Inn On First

One of the best places to stay in Napa! Jim and Jamie go out of their way to help you with planning your visit, making sure you are comfortable, and providing you with a delicious breakfast (absolutely from scratch with herbs from their garden), and the most yummy chocolate chip cookies! We recently took a few family members who were visiting from overseas and it made for a memorable visit.

First time visiting the area of Napa to celebrate Gf birthday, I knew nothing of the area which vineyards to go or where to eat. Choosing to stay here was the smartest decisions ever!
Located on First Street it’s in the middle of everywhere, downtown was so close by we didn’t even have to drive we could of just walked but being late like 9pm we didn’t want to walk back late so we drove. When u first reserve ur room, they send u out a email listing and ratings of all the «to go» spots in Napa. If reservation was required, the dress code, how pricey it was saved me a lot of time and a peace of mind.
If you are planning on going to the WineTrain, the Inn On First, is like down the street lol so like maybe 3 mins or 5mins tops if u get a red light. Also if you are out and about late like we did around 11pm I think, Lucky the local super market is also like 5mins alway to grab your RedBulls or whatever u need.
The Staff, is so so super friendly. Our morning waiter that brought out our breakfast was on point! Always checking up on us, refilling coffee and and Orange Juice lol the pictures do no justice, the food was more than enough and the salads we got was so good u don’t feel as guilty for eating so much lol
Jamie is chill came to us and talked about what we got planned and hooked us up with a picnic basket that came super handy. Also, what’s cool is that the main house u get to have like all u can eat cookies and until they all gone, also wine and chess in the living room where u can chill. The garden area is dope too, we didn’t get to have a chance and turn in the fire pit because we were out and about. Super nice vibe Tho really peaceful and plenty of parking.
Totally worth every penny, super friendly staff, breakfast was on point saved us the time to enjoy the rest of the day, located in the middle of everything Poppin, Parking was easy, yea totally we recommend this place

The Inn On First is a great B&B, close to the heart of downtown Napa, and a great base for visiting the Carneros and Napa Valley areas! Before we even arrived, Jamie had already helped us with suggestions on things to do, wineries to visit, and places to eat! From the delicious and filling breakfast expertly prepared by Jim each morning, to the quiet and peaceful sleep each night, the Inn On First was perfect for our needs!

My husband, dog, and I stayed here the first weekend of April for 3 nights, and had a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Meritage Garden Suite. The room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. We very much enjoyed the private outdoor patio, where we spent quite a bit of time relaxing and enjoying wine with the amazing home made cookies available for the taking.
Each morning’s breakfast was above and beyond what we expected. Everything from the homemade granola to the hot breakfast dishes was delicious, creative, and filing. Both Jim and Jamie went out of their way to make all of the guests feel welcome, and they seemed genuinely interested in what we had planned during our stay, offering up plenty of suggestions and recommendations.
The Inn is conveniently located just a short walk from downtown Napa, and a short car ride to Yountville. We had no problem getting an Über to take us to Yountville for the evening.
Finally, upon learning my husband is active duty Navy, they gave us a military discount. While we certainly don’t expect such discounts, they are very much appreciated, and it was a very nice gesture.
We would definitely return to the Inn on First and recommend it to all of our friends!

Hubby and I decided to stay here after reading all of the positive Unilocal reviews. Everyone was so right!
This place was a gem. Jim and Jamie are amazing hosts… really give great tips on wineries based on what you are looking for, offered amazing restaurant recommendations and made reservations for us, and their sweet treats (fresh baked chocolate chip cookies the day we stayed) and their fresh-​prepared breakfast are to die for!!! Our breakfast was probably one of the best breakfasts I’ve had out!
Would definitely go back and recommend to family and friends!

I should have all of my Unilocal badges revoked! We stayed here four nights and I never checked in. We are back in Hayward and Unilocal won’t allow me to make an official check in. No matter. We stayed here; the stay was wonderful.
We stayed in room 9, the Noble Vineyard. Everything about it was exquisite. Comfy leather chairs, King bed, MP3 player WITH stocked iPod, hot tub (maybe that’s not what it’s really called)… how about whirlpool? His and his sinks, a huge shower, coffee in the room, a cute balcony with table for two and nice quiet view.
The grounds are gorgeous with lush greenery and lots of outdoor seating.
The common rooms in the mansion are beautifully decorated. Complimentary port is a very nice touch.
Breakfast is a standout. Jim creates delicious baked goods and creative hot breakfasts. Nearly everything is homemade. We were half tempted to go out for breakfast, but that would have been silly. The best breakfast in town is right here.
The town of Napa is within easy walking distance. We planned our stay around a concert at Uptown Theater, which is very close. The location, besides being gorgeous, is also extremely convenient.
I should add that for our last day we had no plans. Jim jumped in, asking what we’d like to do. My goal was to take some great photographs. With that in mind, Jim mapped out an entire day’s tour. He also suggested a place to pick up lunch and a winery for a picnic to eat said lunch. The places we visited were beautiful and fantastic photo ops. Lunch was delicious and the picnic was perfect. None of this would have been possible without the thoughtful and knowledgeable recommendations of our hosts.
Our whole stay was very special.

This was the first time my husband and I have ever stayed at a B&B. We are so happy that we chose to stay at The Inn on First. Everything was absolutely perfect and beyond our expectations.
We have been dying to go on a much needed romantic getaway together and finally we were able to squeeze in the time to get away. First we went to Napa Wellness Spa for a couples massage and that was amazing. Following that, we came to check in at The Inn on First. We stayed in a room in the main house. The room was clean, quiet, and cozy. We had a tub with jets and a fireplace in our room. The bed was comfortable and there was also a small bottle of champagne for us to enjoy in the room.
We were walking distance to downtown and walked over to Carpe Diem for dinner. After dinner we came back and enjoyed some of Jim’s famous chocolate chip cookies and drank some of the Port wine available in front of the fireplace in the living room. I loved that there is a set up of Jim’s famous chocolate chip cookies and a variety of teas for guests to choose from in the dining room.
The thing I was most excited for was breakfast and it definitely did not disappoint! The first course was yogurt with fresh fruit and granola. For the main course, Jim made a puff pastry with ricotta and chipotle inside and a sweet chipotle sauce to put on top as well as a salad on the side. It was delicious. I kept wanting to eat it even though I was full. Jim recommended us to visit Prager Winery in St. Helena for dessert wines and we loved the wine.
I’m so glad that we stayed here instead of a hotel. This beats any 4 star hotel we’ve been to. Thank you Jim and Jaime for welcoming us into your home. I wish we had more time to stay longer. We will be back!

Jim and Jamie are fantastic hosts! They were involved in the best day of our lives… Our engagement! We would recommend The inn on first to ANYONE! Especially those who wish to have a romantic getaway while sharing memories with others! Also, Jim created the most delicious breakfasts and cookies we have ever eaten!!!

This was our first experience with a B&B. Jim and Jamie were awesome (and helpful), the room was comfortable and private (we stayed in the main house), and the breakfast was excellent.
The location was easy to find, and was convenient to the downtown area.

Jaime and Jim are wonderful! They make sure you have everything you need, from planning suggestions/​reservations during your trip, the attention to detail at the Inn, picnic basket in your room, Mumm’s split bottle in your mini fridge, never having to repeat a delicious breakfast! They are also a certified green inn.
We originally had planned to backpack and kayak in Point Reyes NS. Coming from Las Vegas we flew into a rainy week in California, which didn’t allow us to kayak and camp anymore. Jim and Jaime helped us plan our last min trip here to Napa as soon as we called to make a reservation. They suggested wineries and helped us with reservations. They even helped us find places to shop for non-​camping attire!
We loved it here so much it made us want to stay an extra night! Unfortunately, they were all booked, so they helped us find another nice place we could stay in.
Thank you both so much for your excellent hospitality! Your property is gorgeous and your cooking was delicious.

They both are very helpful and are happy to guide you on your visit! The staff is very friendly as well! Rooms are very nice and clean. The one we are staying in has a Heart shaped bathtub! It also has a private patio! It’s detached from the main house. It’s quiet if you are sensitive to noise.
We originally were camping in Tomales bay when our kayaking plans fell off due to weather conditions and we switched our trip destination to Napa. Jim quickly helped with suggestions on where to shop since we didn’t have proper clothes to wear to nice restaurants or vineyards. After breakfast he sat we us and gave us a map of places to visit and we even shared some stories & had some good laughs! While Jaime was making reservations to our wine and food pairing at Swanson! I love this place and love them! Stay here you won’t regret it!
We also enjoy the music they provided in every room you will find an iPod with great playlist! We really liked that! The shower is spacious and bright.

Jim and Jaime, the male hosts, really make this place special. They care about each guest and want to ensure that each guest has a wonderful stay in Napa Valley. Their care, concern and enthusiasm about the Valley, ensure a fabulous and memorable stay! It’s like having a personal «Napa Unilocal» guide.
I was a bit skeptical about the gourmet breakfast, since I’m fairly judgmental and critical (a lot, according to my hubs). But, Jim’s breakfasts did not disappoint. The first day, we had Jim’s homemade falafel, with lemon chive yogurt sauce, over his homemade yeast bread. A bit like navajo fry bread. Yeasty, and soft and warm. Delicious! The falafels were soft and fluffy. A perfect «Napa» interpretation of falafels.
Each day, there is fresh fruit, homemade granola, fresh orange juice, coffee/​tea and a fresh pastry of the day, served between 8:30 — 10 am. While you’re enjoying that, your hot breakfast is then brought to you.
The first day, we were lucky to score a private table in the piano room, since the dining table was full. Admittedly, I wasn’t looking forward to eating w/​others at the community table, since we were celebrating our anniversary. Time away from the kids is rare, so wanted to dine alone w/​my hubs. However, the second day, we ate at the community table and thoroughly enjoyed our conversation and time w/​the other couples (from Hawaii, W. Virginia and Georgia).
The first night we stayed in Room 5, in the main building. It was a bit small and I wasn’t too comfortable having neighbors, so to speak. The 2^nd night, we stayed in the Garden area (because they were full over the week-​end, and it was the only option for us to stay for two nights). The garden rooms are larger and a bit more private. Would recommend the Garden area rooms over the main inn, if you prefer a little more privacy.
Impressed at the cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms. The shower doors are crystal clear glass. They recently had to undergo renovations to the tune of $ 400,000 after the earthquake. Yet they were kind enough to house victims of the fire at their inn. Love these guys and their care and warmth.
Jaime has the best recommendations. We ate at Carpe Diem in Napa. Highly recommend! Also hiked Mt. St. Helena, the highest peak in the Valley– 10 mile hike, but amazing views! Used the complimentary picnic backpack in the room, and filled up with the most amazing smoked salmon from the Calistoga Farmer’s market (Sat am), cheese, crackers, cookies from the Sisters, and water from the inn (refillable water bottles, since it’s a green/​eco hotel).
Would not hesitate staying here. If you’re looking for a 5 star hotel, this is not it. There are other hotels in the valley at $ 600/​night+ tags that will better suite your preference. If you’re looking for a 4 star hotel, you will be comfortable here. The kindness and helpfulness of Jim & Jaime made me bump it up to a five. Love small businesses and people who give back to the community. Additionally, having stayed at a Four Seasons resort, would choose this place over a Four Seasons, for the personalized service, warmth and hospitality.
If you’re on a budget, you can choose a smaller room and go off season (winter) to the Inn. You’ll enjoy all the amenities, including a gourmet breakfast, and still pay less than the big chains (Embassy Suites, etc). Conveniently located in downtown Napa, near shopping, eating, outlets, etc. We loved seeing the yellow mustard in bloom (Feb-​ish). Napa Valley is a beautiful place year round. Cheers!

First time staying overnight in Napa and it was a treat! No kids. No strict schedule to follow, just a nice relaxing day. What made it even a better experience was the Inn. From the very beginning, we felt welcomed from the whole staff, genuine hospitality here. It felt like a 5 star hotel, but in someone’s home, albeit a gigantic home. I don’t usually like bed & breakfasts, but this place was was spacious and cozy enough that I didn’t feel like I was an intruder in a stranger’s home.
Thank you for such a pleasant experience. I can’t imagine staying at any other place in Napa. We will be back!

If you are traveling to Napa Valley, you must stay at the Inn on First! The attention to detail is stunning! The accommodations are perfect from the wonderful rooms with Mumm sparkling to the fresh baked cookies each day. Breakfast is always a culinary delight even for those with dietary restrictions. And Jim and Jamie’s knowledge of Napa is amazing! They always recommend the best restaurants. Furthermore, I’ve always enjoyed the wineries they recommend. After they learned the types of wines I loved, they always recommended wineries that were a perfect match.
After our last visit, my husband and I were traveling to San Francisco. They also went out of their way to make sure we knew the names of some great restaurants to try while we were in the city.
One thing is for certain, I will never stay anywhere else. Staying at the Inn on First is part of the experience when visiting Napa Valley. Each time I go back, seeing Jim and Jamie is like visiting with old friends.

Do you enjoy taste, character, and good people? Then the inn on first may be to good to be true. This was my first adventure at a B and B with my girl friend. Happily we can say that we were not disappointed.
Many might be detoured by the cost but don’t let the price scare you away. This place may be a bit more than a Double Tree but the memories you have here will last a life time.
Jim and Jamie reached out as soon as I made my reservations. They accommodated my girl friends eating needs because she does not eat meat. They did this without any hassle and breakfast for both nights we stayed was spectacular. The owners are not shy and will go above and beyond to serve your needs.
We stayed in room 7 outside the main house. It was clean, organized, and the bed was super comfortable. The heart shaped tub made my partner and I laugh a little but it turned out to be quite roomy. So if you want a new“first” this tub can accomplish that. Not many people can say they have been in a heart shaped tub.
After breakfast on our first day. Jim sat down with us with a map in hand and showed us where to visit while in Napa. Jim was able to make wine tasting simple. The locations that Jim suggested based on our taste were exceptional. Thanks to Jim we also ate at some incredible restaurants.
When our day of wine tasting came to a close we went back to the the main house of the Inn. There they had a platter with fresh cookies and in the living room they have a fire with couches. In the living room you can also find a chess board and port“free btw.“
Hands down this B and B experience made me decide that when I return to Napa this will be my «go to» place. It felt like a home and that is something a hotel can never offer.

A perfect place to stay while in Napa! Jim and Jamie were very accomodating, thoughtful and friendly. From the first meeting, you can feel you are a family to them. The Inn on First feels like home. Everything was perfect! There was no other words to describe except PERFECT!
Jim’s breakfast is to die for! It’s like eating on a first class restaurant. This is not a regular bed and breakfast with oatmeal and egg at the table. Its about the 200++ menu that Jim personally make everyday! There will be no chance of eating the same meal. Unless, of course you’ll stay here often, which will not be a surprise. The breakfast was so filling that we skip lunch. Morning conversations with the other guests is great! A relaxing way to start our day.
Jamie was incredibly helpful in suggesting the best possible wineries to visit. He even helped us on getting reservation at Pride Mountain Winery, which by the way, is a MUST to visit. Thanks Jamie!
The Inn on First was very clean and well maintained. We highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to stay at Napa.

The Inn on First is a wonderful place to stay if you are in Napa. My boyfriend and I stayed here recently and it was incredible. The breakfast we had (giant ravioli one day and homemade chocolate pasta the next) left me feeling completely satisfied. After breakfast, Jim gave us some fantastic winery recommendations. We couldn’t fit them all in one day, but we have them bookmarked for next time.
Our room (First Crush) was so cozy and perfect. Well, minus the traffic noise at night, but we knew that before hand. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper! Everything was really clean and completely spotless. Our king sized bed was so comfortable. I only wish my own bed was the same. Oh and the chocolate cookies… so so delicious. Jamie let us take some home for the road. You bet I savored every bite for the next couple days!
Before I booked this place, I knew my boyfriend and I would be the youngest couple there. It didn’t deter us from booking anyway. I was apprehensive about having breakfast at a communal table with the other house guests. It wasn’t so bad. I enjoy eating breakfast alone and having quiet time in the morning, so it was different than what I was used to. Sometimes a change of pace is necessary.
I also want to mention how nice the other staff were. There was one person who got us situated at the Inn when Jim and Jamie were out and another person who was really attentive during breakfast. I wish I remembered their names — they definitly added to our experience.
Thank you for a relaxing stay at our first bed and breakfast. I love the Inn on First. We will be back, and I will continually recommend to friends and family!

We have had three marvelous stays at the Inn on First, and we would never dream of staying anywhere else in Napa. Jim and Jamie have thought of every detail to ensure that your stay is a relaxing and luxurious experience.
Let me say first that all the good things you can read in the other reviews are true, and I don’t want to duplicate them at length. Instead, let me plagiarize a song lyric, and tell you that these are a few of my favorite things. I love Jim’s homemade granola with yogurt and fresh fruit… and then I love the fact that a hot breakfast is coming after I finish it! Jamie’s good advice on local restaurants and wineries has always been spot on. I adore the cookies in the dining room and the port in the living room and no TV in the guest room… it’s just a magical place all around.
If you’ve never been to Napa, go to Napa, and stay at the Inn on First. It is, in every way, a wonderful refuge from the everyday routine.

Our experience at The Inn on First echoes that of the majority here on Unilocal,and this review repeats much of what has already been stated, but I’ll try to add some unique aspects. We stayed for 5 nights at the inn and the only disappointment we experienced was when we had to pack our things and go. We whole-​heartedly missed this place after departing. Here are some highlights:
We arrived late, but the late check-​in procedure was easy and still welcoming (cookies and port at all times? Champagne waiting in the room? YES.) The bed was comfy with soft sheets, and the room (First Crush) was attractive and just enough space for us. We used the Whirlpool tub once, which was great, but we were pretty active during our stay so it wasn’t as big of a perk as I expected. There was construction going on while we were staying here but it did not inconvenience us at all. We actually benefitted by being able to lock our bikes to the scaffolding outside! One of the other reviewers mentioned the shower pressure: it was low, but comfortable, and I’ve actually changed my water pressure at home because of our stay here. Go green!
I’m not sure what else can be said about the breakfast so I’ll just say it lives up to all the hype. I love the idea of the first course while you wait for your freshly– made hot entrée. The «cold bar» has fresh baked pastries, granola, yogurt, fruit, teas, OJ and coffee. The hot entrée was different every day, and my favorite was the «eggs New Mexico» with soy-​rizo, poached egg, and cornbread. There must have been someone staying at the inn during our stay with dietary restrictions because each breakfast we had was vegetarian, I believe. I would love to see what Jim can do with some bacon! Guess we’ll have to come back someday!
Jaime and Jim offered wonderful suggestions that were tailored to our interests (which were both stated to them as well as factors they picked up on such as age, level of activity, budget, etc). Everything from restaurants, wineries, things to do in San Francisco, and help with transportation. We took many of their suggestions and loved them all. They will give you the inside scoop (i.e. stay away from certain wineries because they’re crowded/​overrated or do not miss this winery if you love reds). Both Jim and Jaime gave us maps with their notes and suggestions so we could take them along on our day trips.
Bottom line: If you’re staying in the city of Napa, book a room at The Inn on First. It’s well worth it!
