Dropped my car off for an oil change and two new tires. The service was prompt and the car was ready in a few hours. But…
When they returned the car to me, I looked over the invoice and saw they used «synthetic blend» after I previously told them I used conventional oil in my car. I asked why the invoice said «synthetic blend» and they said they used conventional oil, indicating it was just semantics. Hmm, ok. When I asked what kind of oil they used (ex 10W30, 5W20, etc) they replied «whatever the manufacturer recommends.
Then I inquired as to whether or not they have taken brake pad measurement (because I was concerned my front pads may be getting thin). They responded «yeah, they looked a little low» which would suggest they did some kind of an inspection. I asked them if they had a millimeter reading for the front pads, the counter looked back to his colleague in the office who said «um, about 4-​ish». Ok, so they either (a) didnt take a measurement and lied saying they did or (b) took one and didnt document it. Between either not knowing or not recording the kind of oil they used or remaining brake pad life, my cars (company or private wont be headed back there. Period.

After weeks of looking all over the south side for a shop that had the ability to remove a stripped lug nut (not all tire centers do, it turns out) and wasn’t backed up so much that I needed an appointment, I stopped in on a whim since it was facing the exit from the car wash next door.
The person who greeted me as I walked toward the store was extremely friendly and helpful as he walked me in. I explained my problem and he called a service tech over. The tech was just as friendly and very down-​to-​earth as he went over the various options and solutions dependent on the level of corrosion on the lug nut. I agreed to wait as he looked it over, at which point I was directed to a waiting room and fresh coffee (Keureg French Roast, no less). The waiting room was above and beyond confortable, featuring a large TV, a wide variety of magazines, Internet access, and a couch that practically swallowed me in comfort. I could have slept there.
The tech came in and told me that my problem was a quick $ 10 fix, and he also brought up another issue with my sway bar (a problem that I was previously aware of but forgot over time). He gave me an extremely fair estimate which was on par with what I had been quoted elsewhere, so I went ahead and had that taken care of as well.
I never got a chance to fall asleep on the couch because I was out in about 35 to 45 minutes, and my problems were taken care of. These guys were terrific.

Have been coming to this location for 5 years now. Always received Excellent service. I even had one time that i had an issue on the wednesday before thanksgiving, half an hour before they closed. I had a trip planned with the family. I pulled in to see what they could do. They stayed late to ensure vehicle was safe for travelling. Great job! Today i walked in at 830 on a Saturday asked if they could do an oil change without appt. Their answer… Absolutely.

I had hit a patch of black ice on Ogden, causing a spin out and shredding my two driver’s side tires. I called and spoke to Ray who helped me arrange the tow truck. This was at 7:20, Acorn closes at 7. Because police had cordoned off Ogden because more accidents had occurred, it took longer to get to the shop. Still, Ray and Ryan were there to put on the new tires and even managed to save one of the rims that bent when I was driving on the flats. It was 9:00 before I left there. That is going above and beyond for your customers. That was a trying situation for me and those two gentlemen helped me out immensely. I really appreciate. Thank you.

I loyally bring my thunderbird to this shop and have had great service every time. I will continue to bring my car to be serviced here and will recommend Acorn Tire to my friends. Thanks for all the hard work you boys do there!

I wanted to like this place. The oil change specials are cheap. Making an appointment is rather easy.
But on my last visit, the assistant manager, during an oil change, suggested I change my oil pan. On the previous oil change, I was told, the service tech had not replaced the plug correctly, resulting in stripped threads. He assured me it was going to leak. «Do you know where it was done?» he asked me. «It wasn’t here» he added, because the oil filter wasn’t their brand.
Well, it was in fact my wife’s car. And while I wasn’t entirely sure where she’d last changed the oil, I actually thought she’d done it at Acorn.
I refused the oil plan replacement. Instead, they put in a new plug, which of course cost me more.
When I got home, I learned from my wife that her last oil change was indeed from Acorn, meaning one of several things: 1) The whole story was BS; 2) They were responsible for replacing the plug incorrectly; 3) They failed to even change the filter in the previous visit, AND replaced the plug wrongly.
When coupled with some brake work that I found overpriced, and an estimate on some additional work that was hundreds more than a better shop, I think I’ll just go with a sometimes higher-​priced shop that I completely trust. It’s not worth the few extra bucks.

Fraud Warning: Goodyear Acorn Tire charged me for replacing front brake ($ 199), front struts ($ 536), rear shocks ($ 343), sway bar links ($ 204). But my car still has the original parts! They charged me for resurfacing front rotors but still charged me for $ 180 rotor parts ($ 90 each). They charged me for ‘Replace oil pan gasket RTV’ labor of $ 100 without a new part put on. They charged me for replacing rear brakes. I went to another auto shop to double check and was told the rear brakes were about 50% worn. I went to Acorn Tire to confront the fraud and owner Frank threatened me by calling police. He won’t get away with fraud.

When I realized Acorn made fraud to me on 7÷14÷2014, I went to your shop 7÷22÷2014 to show both receipts to Ray and asked for an answer. He reversed the story saying on 7÷14÷2014 Acorn replaced the rear brake and on 10/​10/​2013 Acorn replaced front brakes. Later he rudely asked me to leave. I contacted BBB Chicago on 8÷26÷2014. You told BBB: ‘We have tried to communicate with this customer multiple times with no success’. This was a completely lie. Except for responding to BBB with denying and lying, no one in Acorn ever called me. BBB took your lie without looking at the evidence, without checking with me if Acorn did contact me. BBB closed the case on 11/​06/​2014. (Note, Acorn is a paying member). Then I contacted my creditcard company. They helped recovering multiple fraudulent money for me. During that time, Acorn called me once. I called back around 3:00 pm. Ray took the call. He went to check and told me manager left for the day. He told me manager would call me next day 8:00 am. I waited and waited, afraid to leave the seat and missed the call. But the call never came.
Last week I was suggested to replace all 4 struts/​shocks. I remember that Acorn ‘replaced’ the front ones on 12/​18/​2013. So I took a look and saw ‘Korean’ stamp on them. Later I looked at 7/14/2014’s receipt. It showed Acorn replaced my car’s rear shocks and sway bar links. I went to check again and I saw ‘KOREAN’ stamp on the rear shocks too! I took pictures. (So, on 7÷14÷2014, I was charged for front brakes, shocks, sway bar links for $ 805. But none of them was performed.) So on 10/​03/​2015, I walked to Acorn. I asked service manager Joe what brand shocks/​struts they use. He told me Monroe for shocks/​struts, Moog for sway bar link. Hyundai dealer told me the parts in my car were Hyundai parts. They want Acorn to provide part invoices to them to look up. They told me Acorn should have invoices. So I asked Joe for the invoices. Of course I was not given. Mr. Frank, give me the invoices for the parts Acorn replaced.
By the way, Acorn didn’t put FRONT or REAR on the receipts for replacing brakes. It reads ‘Premium brake service with ceramic pads’. So when I showed Joe 10/10/2013’s receipt, he argued with me that Acorn did replace the rear brakes since it didn’t mention FRONT on the receipt. He said he usually put front/​rear there. But sometime others forget?! Then I showed him the second page, it reads ‘Left front new disc brake rotor; Right front new disc brake rotor’. He had nothing to argue. Then I showed him 7/14/2014’s receipt. It reads ‘Premium brake service with ceramic pads’. It is exactly same wording with the 10/​03/​2015. (I asked Ray to write down clearly if Front or Rear brakes have been done. He wrote ‘Front’ brakes were done. He also wrote ‘Rear Brakes Done on 10/10/13’s receipt.) Seeing Ray’s handwriting, Joe said I saw your point.
By the way, I also showed Joe two receipts from Hyundai dealer service:
The first one was on 07/​20/​2013 (50 114 mileages). It recorded ‘Battery Performance’ Passed in Green; (not Yellow, not Red); ‘Shocks, Struts and Suspension components’ Passed in Green. However, I went to Acorn for oil change on 12/​18/​2013 (56 348 mileages), I was told battery was really bad, front struts were really bad. Both were replaced.
The second one was on 04/​12/​2014 (60 982 mileages). It recorded ‘Inspect front suspension components’ check OK; ‘Inspect rear suspension components’ check OK; ‘Inspect sway bar components’ check OK, ‘Inspect brake system components’ check OK. However, for my mistake of not reading what Hyundai did, I went to Acorn for a safety check before a road trip to the western on 07/​14/​2014, I was told rear shocks really bad, rear sway bar links really bad, front brake really bad (3mm thin), front rotors really bad. (Ray took off replacing front rotors after I questioned him). After Joe read these evidences, he was speechless.
Frank, give me your office address. I want you to look at the receipts. I want my money back. Let’s talk about the facts and not accuse each other. Please don’t tell me you don’t keep invoices.

I went over to the shop today (July 6^th, 2015) for an oil change and noticed my check engine light was on. So, I figured I’d have them check that out too.
They come back saying that all 4 of my cylinders are misfiring, my water pump needs to be replaced, I need to have a coolant flush, and I need additional testing to figure out why my cylinders are misfiring. This coming out to an «estimated»:
Water pump — 340
Coolant flush — 139
Diagnose cylinders– 139
Coming to $ 618 dollars to «figure» out all of my problems.
I went over to the Toyota dealership to get a second opinion and they said the water pump was completely fine. They also removed the code and checked it again and found nothing wrong with the cylinders. I left there paying $ 0 dollars.
To top it off, when I got my oil change done, I came in with a coupon for $ 19.95. When I paid, they changed me $ 25 for hidden fees that they didn’t think to mention.
Suffice to say, I didn’t enjoy my service today. Get a second opinion folks.

I brought my car in for some service and tires and have to say I was very pleased with the awesome service! The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable and went above and beyond to take care of me. I will continue to tell friends and customers to take there vehicles to Acorn Tires.

I needed a new battery. They gave me a price quote over the phone and were able to get me in right away. The cost was very reasonable. The showroom and waiting area were very clean including the bathroom. They put out fresh coffee and donut, too.

I called bright and early one morning hoping that they could patch my tire in time for me to get to work. They had me in and out of their shop in 30 minutes — no problem! I was really impressed with their customer service and quality of their work. I will definitely be back here the next time I need their services! Thank you for making what could have been a long day for me quick and easy!

I’ve been a loyal customer for years … they always go above and beyond the call of duty for me and my family. Fast friendly service every time!
I’m always calling last minute for something … and you know what, they always fit me in! I’ve had tires installed on multiple vehicles, best price … best experience!

NEVER AGAIN! NOT TRUSTWORTHY! I’ve been using Acorn (both locations) for over 1.5 years for 2 cars. For the most recent oil change, they told me my rear brakes & the brake caliper needs replacement-​total $ 825. I researched that calipers typically only need to be replaced after 100K miles, my car was only 45K, thus I brought it into a differnt shop to get a second opinion, turns out only the brakes need replacing $ 275. That’s a huge difference. They must think they can RIP YOU OFF if you just step into the store.

It’s freezing cold in Chicago, my dealer installed tires are low on air, and my dealer is nowhere nearby. I stop at 6 gas stations for air, only to find out none of them have working air pumps. FRUSTRATED. I pull into this Acorn location, ask the price and the price is FREE. Are you kidding me? WOW. I am driving a brand new car which will hopefully not need tires for a long time to come, and they still open their garage door on the coldest day of the year and cheerfully top off my tires. I’m still smiling about it. And by doing that, they turned me into a sales lady. Nice work!

I have been coming in for oil changes for several years. The staff is always friendly and professional, explaining the potential repairs and services before they do them so I don’t get charged for something I don’t want or need done. I love the big comfy couches in the waiting room! There is also a big screen TV, a computer with free WiFi, lots of magazines, a kids area, Keurig coffee, and best of all a desktop Pacman game!
I can’t speak to their other services but oil changes have always been quick and thorough for me.

I will never take my car here again. They installed a new battery in my car. I am not too bright when it comes to cars so I didn’t bother to look at the battery once they gave me my car back. A few weeks later I was having issues with the hood of my car. I was driving and my hood flew up. I had my friends husband look at it and it was shocking what he found. They installed a battery that was too small for my car and they obviously knew that and were struggling with installing a small battery because they took my handle that holds up my hood and some other pieces (keep in mind I don’t know cars that well) and put it all under the battery holder clip to keep the small battery from moving around in a location where a large battery should be. Along with using about 20 washers where only one shoukd be used. Only incompetent mechanics would do work like this. I could have got in to a car accident. It was obvious that they knew they were installing the wrong battery and messing up my car along with that.

First let me say that this, I am a fair reviewer and give the benefit of the doubt to the business. I made this mistake by coming back…
My Fiancée and I were lied to, taken advantage of and treated very poorly because we stood up for ourselves.
We took our car here to have new 2 new tires put on the front axel. After about a day we noticed that there was a shake in the steering wheel. We took it back and a manager told us the wrong tires were put on the car and we needed to have it fixed, AT OUR EXPENSE! After a serious argument we agreed to pay for the labor and that was enough to get out the door and never see this place again.
WRONG! We got in the car the next day to go on a road trip to Nebraska and had a blow out on one of the new tires. We put on the donut and drove to sears because it was the only place close only to be told that the tire was not installed correctly.
I have complained to management of the store and have not heard anything back and it has been over a year.
Ugh — their mistake cost me so much more than it would have been to just take it somewhere credible. I am just lucky the blown tires did not lead to personal damages… I put my life in the hands of my tires every day… I’m going somewhere knowledgeable and who cares about the customer going forward.
Shame on me for going here in the first place and even going back to try and get it fixed…

This place is full of idiots. Got an oil change here and a few days later noticed my car was leaking oil. I took it to the dealer and they told me that they forgot to change my drain plug gasket, which I am told is a rookie mistake. I ended up having to pay for another oil change since that is the only way to replace the plus.
Also, while they were doing my oil change they «noticed» that my wipers were worn down and offered to change them for $ 20. I said yes, and then a month or so later (didn’t use them for a few weeks due to weather) I noticed that one of the wipers was warped and didn’t even wipe a quarter of my windshield. I didn’t have the time to go back and complain, and I am sure it would’ve fallen on deaf ears, anyways.
One last thing… the sign said an oil change was $ 19.99, but when I got my bill it was $ 5 more than it should’ve been… took me until after I got home to notice that they added some random $ 5 «miscellaneous fee». All bullshit… these guys are cheats and idiots… DON’T GO HERE.

After working with their staff over an issue, I am happy to continue going to their business. I feel that the quality of their work has always impressed me. After taking a car there, they found that a competing shop severly over-​torqued the oil filter. It is challenging to find a shop that respects the manufacturer’s specs when it comes to torquing any screws or bolts, since the results of not can be disastrous.
I am not a fan of car dealerships since I can’t even get them to answer the phone to make an appointment (at least not the one down the street). Acorn tire has always delivered great service and at a much better price. Their waiting area is also much nicer then the windowless basement waiting room at the dealership down the street.
Edit: Oil drain plug fell out of the car while driving. STAY AWAY AT ALL COST!

I go no where else, these guys had me in and out of there in less than 20 minutes. Courteous, knowledgeable and super fast. The shop is conveniently located on Ogden Avenue and is clean and efficient.
