Specialties
Cahill & Associates specializes in representing individuals in need of estate planning, as well as advising and arranging guardianships, special needs trusts, estate plans, and wills for families of special needs children and adults.
In addition to estate planning and trusts, we also specialize in securing the educational rights of individuals with special needs. We are highly skilled in student educational placement, the development of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), parental rights and responsibilities, due process, disciplinary matters and educational employment matters.
We have had the privilege of working with the families of many different special needs individuals including those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), developmental disabilities, emotional disorders, and learning disabilities. We know that these matters must be handled in the most sensitive manner, and always with the best interest of the family at heart.
History
Established in 1991.
Ms. Cahill earned both her B.S. and J.D. degrees from Loyola University, Chicago. Prior to opening her own private practice, Ms. Cahill had a successful career as an attorney with the Chicago Board of Education.
Unfortunately, during her time with the Chicago Board of Education Ms. Cahill saw many families with special needs children pass through the court and school system unable to obtain the services their children needed and often not knowing how to plan for their children’s futures.
Having seen so many children unable to succeed because their families didn’t have adequate representation or knowledge of the law, she entered into private practice to work on behalf of the families of those students and adults who have physical and learning disabilities.
Ms. Cahill puts a focus on not only obtaining the educational services that students are entitled to, but helping families plan for the rest of their children’s lives, to ensure they will always have quality care and assistance.
