Jo & Doh! Donuts

This location is closed! So sad. I miss Joel and the great staff. I can still get doughnuts at the Rickert Dr. location, but it’s not the same.

Headed over to Jo and Doh on a weekday morning. I happened to be driving by, so I figured I’d pick up a cup of coffee and some doughnuts. The flavors they have are pretty unique, and the service and knowledge of the front person (chef/​baker?) was great! The doughnuts did look like your everyday doughnut, but the flavors were unique. I ended up getting the hubby and kiddo the cookies and cream doughnuts. You could tell from the frosting that they crushed up oreo cookies into the cream. I’m not a fan of Oreos (yes I know: P), however hubby gobbled it up and the kid had no complaints! I took home a maple old fashioned, which was a little too sweet for me (I’m not a huge fan of sweet stuff, so it probably won’t be super sweet for the masses), but it was very tasty and had a great maple flavor. I also took home a cinnamon sugar, which had a great flavor and just enough cinnamon sugar :) The best one I had though was a cake doughnut with cream cheese frosting and chocolate drizzle. This one was DELISH! The cream cheese frosting was just the right balance of sweet and tang, and the doughnut (which I had there), was great.
The shop is so cute, with mismatched furnature, and random coffee cups everywhere. It would be a great place to spend a Sunday morning! The flavors are unique, but the core of the doughnuts are made well. It’s a definite try!

Ok… I gave Joh & Doh’s another shot and I was not disappointed! Some of my friends have been raving about them, so I figured it was worth another try.
I had a maple bacon donut… it was EFFING awesome. I also tried the Tiffany and a glazed, both were delish and very fresh.

It’s been months since everything has gone down with Jo & Doh and former business manager, Tim. Time has passed and their new manager, Joel, reached out to me in order to give them another chance. He invited me to come back in and give it a shot, so I decided to take him up on that.
Since I was there last, things have taken a massive rehaul. They have new recipes for donuts and even new coffee. The coffee was necessary because the last stuff was terrible. The new coffee is a whole lot better!
They are doing a lot more donuts in house from scratch. It sounds like the goal is to do more in shop. It seems like they are mixing up their flavors daily but you can always call ahead of time to order specific donuts. If you’re like me, you’ll call ahead for a Fat Elvis!
Overall, I’m impressed with their new donuts and coffee. It seems like Joel has a great managing style and is doing an awesome job with taking care of the place. Customer service has stepped it up big time, and that was needed.
I will definitely be back in the future. If you’ve had any problems with them in the past, go in and talk to Joel. He’ll make things right. I’m a huge supporter of small businesses and I’m glad to see this place is taking off.

Ahhhh Jo and Do. Such a confusing place. While the donuts are by no means horrible, they aren’t very good either. They are roughly the equivalent to a Jewel donut, but twice the cost.
The service is fine, nothing special. Everyone was pretty friendly.
I really don’t understand the fuss, maybe its due to the lack of sophistication in Naperville on food, not quite sure. This is nowhere near places in the city such as Stan’s, Donut Vault, or Beaver’s. In fact, I’ve heard from an inside source that the donuts are frozen and pre-​made. Yuck! Can’t respect a place that doesn’t even make its own «Doh» ;)
And now the smoothies. It appears that they put as my syrup into their smoothies as they can. Gross.
Overall, this place is decent, but nothing to ever go back to.

It was really difficult for me to decide between rating this place four or five stars – mostly because I take this crap way too seriously – but also because I don’t love their donuts on the whole, I only love some of them. The first two times I had their donuts someone else had ordered them and brought an assortment, and I thought they were too sugary and even kind of artificial tasting. But I had liked the glazed, and thought «***k yeah» when I had tasted the apple fritter, so those were the two donuts that lured my sugar-​and-​dough-​loving ass into the store, and I’ve gone in now three times.
I love baked goods, and I can eat dessert for dinner, but, oddly enough, I don’t like really sugary things – except for donuts! My ‘guilty pleasure’, if you will (although I don’t feel any guilt about it), are nasty, sugary, artificial-​tasting dunkin donuts, and when I have a craving for dough, fat, and sugar, I get a box of 8 vanilla long johns and four boston cream and I eat them three or four at a time, devouring the dozen within 12 to 24 hours. I bought a vanilla donut with lemon filling and a raspberry drizzle. It took me almost an hour and a half to eat it. It was SO sugary, and they definitely give more frosting and filling then the dunkin. I bought several other donuts that day that I couldn’t eat because they were so sugary, but I realized that I had been an idiot for choosing donuts I should have known were going to have to much sugar based on my previous experience. Bubblegum? What the hell was I thinking? That was my bad.
Now I’ve had the maple bacon, lemon and coconut on an old-​fashioned, the apple fritters, the glazed, and I loved those. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still packing a lot of sugar, but are far more tolerable. I can eat three glazed donuts from dunkin donuts, or just one from jo and doh. The difference in the bread itself between the two donut mongers is what makes the decision an easy one for me; the bread just tastes so much better and is richer and denser – though not gummy! – at jo and doh, which just makes for a much tastier product. The donuts are also a little beefier here as opposed to dunkin donuts, except for the apple fritter, which is okay because it tastes that much better, and it’s SWEET as opposed to sugary, sweet like an apple! Who’d have thought?
I really love the donuts that I’ve been able to eat there, and that coupled with the really friendly and helpful service I’ve received are the reasons I have to go with five stars. As far as coffee goes, I got a dark roast once, and it was pretty bad, and it was actually kind of watery, but that’s okay – I don’t like the coffee from dunkin donuts either. It is more expensive than dunkin donuts, but I do feel the product is worth the price, and have actually found that one jo and doh donut is worth three from dunkin. I’ll be coming here now.

I have to admit, I was a little bummed at first when I found out all the Caribou Coffee’s were closing — but now I’m kicking myself for feeling that way! SO many of their old locations are turning into awesome independent shops and I LOVE it!
Jo & Doh! Donuts is no exception. This place is adorable and super cozy. Great spot to grab a coffee and get some work done (free wifi) or meet friends and enjoy the delicious treats they have to offer. The inside is lined with couches, comfy chairs, a fire place, low top and high top tables — great combo.
I had already had my coffee fix for the morning, so I was stopping by strictly to enjoy one of their yummy donuts I read all about on Unilocal.I went with the classic glazed donut and oh. my god. It did not disappoint. The sugar gods were must have been lookin down on me when I walked into Jo & Doh’s, because this donut was AMAZING. Super fluffy and soft and perfectly glazed. They have a whole display of fresh donuts, so there are a ton of options. From what I read they even do custom orders! Perfect for a birthday, bachelorette, etc.
There menu also includes smoothies, coffee, tea and any variation of the 3 you can think of. If you bring your own mug or use one of theirs you can save yourself 60 cents! #gogreen
Tid bit: Every Sunay from 9:30am-12:30pm they have free live music!

I had a great experience here with my wife last weekend. We got the key lime pie donut and the chocolate raspberry donut and shared a banana/​strawberry smoothie. Everything was fantastic. The donuts were clearly freshly made; the chocolate raspberry were super fresh, and we got in at noon so we know they are making them throughout the day.
The prices per donut are higher then a dunkin or the local Jewel, but these aren’t the kind of crappy donuts you might find growing stale in an oil change shop waiting room. These are super decadent.
We’ll be back.

I give this place an edge over the location on Rickert Ave, only because it has a coffee house/​doughnut shop feel to it.
The girl at the counter was very friendly and helpful, although I felt kinda rushed. She started ringing me up before I could tell her I wanted a coffee with my doughnuts.
The doughnuts here are good. Better than Dimples and Dunkin, but a little pricey. Good place to go for a snack…

So I see this place has a colorful history amongst some Unilocalers, and at the risk of joining the ranks of the abused, I must say, Joh and Doh! is just a-​ok.
To be completely fair, we got here at about 1pm, well after the donut «rush» and certainly after much of their selection had been depleted. We were greeted by a nice young man who took the time to explain and describe the remaining flavors to us, which was helpful. I let the hubs choose our selection, as nothing really jumped out at me. He picked a smattering of donuts, I think mainly based on vividness of frosting color, and we left.
The donuts were heavy, and very, very greasy. I had one and found myself reaching for the Tums. I tried a bite or so of almost every flavor we got, and the only standouts were the Tiffany — a fun blue donut covered in edible pearl (nice idea in theory, not so fun to bite into) with a rich almondy flavor and a delicious sweet frosting, and the raspberry cheesecake — weird because I hate raspberry AND cheesecake, but for some reason, that creamy filling with the tart raspberry flavor really worked. The rest of our selections were meh, and admittedly, the box was thrown out with several ¾ intact donuts the next day.
We didn’t get to try any of their deluxe flavors — the only ones available when we got there were not appealing to me (apologies to froot loops fans, I just can’t), but judging from the other reviews, I must try some of the other fun ones. We’ll definitely return to do so, and update the review as needed. The deluxe donuts must really be out of this world though, if they’re going to surpass Sweet Mornings Café in Carol Stream.

Its a nice place but I was disappointed in their selection of donuts and the chocolate banana donut wiith chocolate frosting sprinkled with peanuts was good but not worth the money I paid. Maybe next time ill try their coffee but I love donuts and I was looking forward to better selection. Oh well I guess ill have to keep searching since im tired of dunkin donuts.

Ok okay okay seems like the more I try it the more I like it. First of all I love the amazing customer service that they provide. They all seem so nice and friendly and trust me that is needed first thing in the morning!!!
The doughnuts are consistent from my last review and they seem to change everyday which is great but you also have your basic well I should say classic doughnuts too which looks like they are served ever day…
Let’s get to the good part which is the coffee, I was invited back to try the coffee again and I’m not paid for any of my reviews nor do I feel sorry for writing a honest one because I don’t and I am always willing to give businesses another try because let’s face it. Everyone and everything has a bad day from time to time. But anyway I stuck with the original caramel lattes (I took a classic) and it was great. Just how it’s suppose to be and he even drew a little design with the caramel syrup in my cup so let say I was a happy camper and maybe the drink I had yesterday just wasn’t for me…
My boyfriend had the Americano and he said it was good. I don’t drink just black coffee so I will take his word for it.
Anyway I am still impressed by this place, the coffee is good and the doughnuts are amazing!!!
Try it out it will surprise you and the owner is really nice, you can’t help but to like him. Great business hope it sticks around for a while

I wanted a doughnut. I tried to resist. First, I weighed myself. Then I put on a bathing suit and stood in front of my mirror, telling myself «Mel, you don’t want a doughnut.» But I put my internal struggle on social media. Big mistake. My doorbell rang. There in the Chicago drizzle were bags of Jo & Doh’s doughnuts on my doorstep. Opening the bags, my bathing suit trick was quickly folding.
I had the maple. Very moist (I hate that word). Very flavorful. My mouth exploding with maple and bacon. Yum.
Basic Cinnamon doughnut. Just your average doughnut. Kind of dry. One bite was good enough.
Per usual, the Unilocalers got it right. The specialty doughnuts… YUM. The basic doughnuts… Basic.
The maple though… The maple I’m eating half of … as I stand in my bathing suit. A partial victory.

Way to turn things around, Jo & Doh!
Joel, the Store Manager, sent me a message a few days ago. He informed that Tim, the social media guy that was working for them, has been terminated. Joel also apologized for all of the madness. Hallelujah! I think this is the best thing Jo & Doh’s could’ve done for their business. Hopefully the owners can get things straightened out with Unilocal,since he still has access to the Unilocal business account :(
Feeling welcome again, I stopped in this afternoon to try some of the donuts people had raved about. These donuts are fantastic.
Raspberry Cheesecake: Total sugar bomb but awesome.
Papa Hemingway: As lime-​y as a donut can be. I loved the graham crackers and lime zest on top.
Tiffany: Finally, a Tiffany I can afford! I love the vanilla almond flavored frosting, and the donut itself was very moist and dense. This is by far my favorite one.
Boston Cream: Yeah, pass on this one. It was dry and just blah.
The selection was extremely limited this time, so if you want to get a dozen or that donut you’ve been dying to try, get there at the crack of dawn. If it’s getting closer to lunch time, expect everything to be limited and picked over.
The prices are reasonable, but they still have their three-​tier pricing which could make ordering a dozen a bit complicated or expensive. The people working here have been nothing but nice, and the interior of this place is begging for you to stay for awhile with the overstuffed armchairs, free WIFI and fireplace.

This place is super bad news for me. Bad news as in, I’m going to become Fat Jenny after several of the Fat Elvis donuts.
I actually just stopped in today around 11am to grab a quick donut and coffee and was mesmerized by the small but efficient selection they still had. I was expecting there to just be crullers and glazed, but they had around 10 kinds left, all diverse! Sadly, I did not get to have a Fat Elvis, but I know that one day when I do get to have one, I will love it (hence becoming Fat Jenny someday).
I could not get just one obviously, so I got three: standard glazed (THE BIGGEST GLAZED DONUT I’VE EVER SEEN), Lemon Coconut Cake Donut, and the «Tiffany» (cake donut with vanilla almond frosting). I ate the glazed immediately, and heaven ensued. I like that for once in my life, the glaze on a donut wasn’t rock hard. It was still soft and glaze-​like! And to boot, it was HUGE. I commented on this to the girl behind the counter, about how big the glazed donuts were, so when I picked it out, she picked out the largest one for me… it’s the little things, like paying attention to the customer! :)
The Tiffany sounds sort of standard, but WOAH do not be fooled. I thought it was decadent. Truly a luxurious donut in name, flavor, and presentation.
I’m waiting for my husband to get home so we can share the Lemon Coconut one. I told him if he doesn’t hurry then i’m going to eat it. Then that will be 3 donuts in a matter of 3 hours. Is that a record? Is that disgusting? If its wrong, I don’t want to be right.
The cappuccino I had was pretty standard, no complaints at all. I like that it was cheaper than Starbucks and larger in size, for a small.
The girl behind the counter was nice, quick and attentive. She seemed busy cleaning the place when I arrived, but stopped to answer my questions and provide good service, which I really appreciated since many people are just like «LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU’RE READY» and disappear to do their chores. I would’ve understood if she had, since I have worked in restaurants before, but again, its the small things people do to provide good service.
Anyway, this seems really long-​winded for 3 donuts and a capp. It was $ 7 even, which seemed good to me (I don’t know, I rarely buy donuts, if I’m being honest). Especially given how much I’ve liked 2 out of the 3 donuts so far. All the donuts were really large too, so at $ 2 – 3, you get a lot of donut. I saw someone on here say that for that price, you can get a decent cupcake. But aren’t they kind of the same size anyway? I think it seems like a fair price, especially given that they are not factory-​made 7-​Eleven donuts. I’d like to see this place do well, so that I can try the Almond Joy, Fat Elvis, Papa Hemingway, S’mores, and pretty much every single other one that is available.
**I’d also like to note… there are 9 reviews that have been filtered out that give 4 – 5 star ratings, I’m unsure why none of those appear on the front page? Just wanted to point that out, it seems like most of the reviews that have been filtered to the front page are negative.**

DAMN!!! As in damn good donuts!
Me and a buddy stopped by this morning before work. We each had 2 awesome donuts! Also great coffee.

I have been meaning to stop in here to try them out. I saw the other location by 75^th and did not know they had this one. When stuck in traffic I saw it on the corner and pulled in.
First off the selection was big and had couple special looking donuts I never have thought was possible. I was helped by a younger girl who was really helpful with explaining the different options they had. They had some really fruit filled ones, other cookie top ones, and a special raspberry chocolate one. I asked her what her favorite was and she said the boston cream, which is my weakness. I grabbed them and paid $ 1.50 each and shared it with my co-​workers, they agreed it was one great tasting donuts. So it passed the co-​worker test and in my book gets a good review for that. Also spoke with Joel the manger on way out and he was really nice guy and thanked me for my business and said hope to see me soon. I got great donuts and great service.
As far as all this other back and forth on Unilocal.Take my opinion and give this place a try, they have great snacks and coffee and great staff. The people I have met have been real nice to me.

I don’t live far from here, but I think the reason I’ve avoided them is because I’ve been to their other location off of Rickert and 75^th, and it wasn’t a great experience. However, I decided it would only be fair to give this location a chance.
After running around all day and the temperature continued to climb, I began craving a smoothie. I remembered hearing that J&D had smoothies, and since I was on my way home I figured I’d stop and check it out.
I stepped inside and looked around. The décor had a fun, casual feel to it. The fireplace was a nice touch. I can see this being the perfect spot to come in the winter, curled up with a hot beverage and read or relax. I was greeted by a young girl at the counter, and after looking at the menu boards I decided on a large raspberry smoothie.
Before making my drink, the girl asked if it was okay if she put some syrupy stuff (I don’t know the correct term, sorry!) around the inside of the cup. She explained that someone ordered one the other day and it turned out they had an allergic reaction to the stuff. I told her it was fine and that I’m not allergic to any food products that I know of.
While she made my drink, I went to take a peek at the donuts and was surprised to see quite a selection for 3:30 p.m. on a Saturday. I didn’t order any however as I had been eating all afternoon and I figured the smoothie itself would be enough. I did find that the wall displaying the flavors for the donuts was a bit confusing, as I’m so used to see the names of things displayed in front of the item. Not a big deal, it’s just something different.
When my order was ready, I paid and as I went to leave, both the girl and a younger man told me to have a nice day. The man even went a bit further to say «Thanks for stopping in!» Wow. I can’t remember the last time I left somewhere and heard that. How pathetic is that?! Kudos to those young folks for being polite, friendly, and helpful.
Now for the smoothie. In all honesty, I should have gone with a small instead of a large; my eyes were clearly bigger than my stomach. It was very sweet, and while I do enjoy sweets (in moderation), it was a bit much for my liking. I was a little disappointed to see that the raspberry mix was pre-​made from a carton. I was hoping to have something made with fresh raspberries and such. Oh well. The drink was still good, regardless.
For now, this place gets three stars because it certainly is «a-​ok»; I can’t give it a better rating since I haven’t tried the donuts. The potential for them to do well is strong as there is no competition in the immediate area and being located off a busy intersection can certainly help bring in business.

Super friendly staff. Kids loved the donuts! My young donut aficionado declared his Oreo donut Waaayyy better than Dunkin. My Boston crème very nice, no weird grease or chemical aftertaste like some others. Peach smoothy very refreshing.
