Play It Again Sports

Just had a crappy, and costly, experience at this Play It Again store. We have been customers for over 4 years for my sons football gear and today they blew their last chance at getting me to spend another dime in their store! Yesterday I went in to buy my son a new pair of compression shorts. I had a lengthy conversation with the «kid» behind the counter about the sizing and was a little concerned that the next size up wouldn’t fit my son. The packages are marked «no returns» but I thought if they didn’t fit I would just exchange them for the larger size. WRONG! I went in today to do just that and the same «kid» at the counter told me I couldn’t even exchange them because they are underwear. Now I’ve purchased lots of underwear in my life and have never had a problem returning or exchanging them. Where would Victoria’s Secret be with a stupid ass policy like this?! When I asked why they couldn’t even make an exchange, when I’ve done so at Sports Authority before, he told me that maybe they didn’t care about a lawsuit. FOR WHAT? You sell frickin used sports equipment and clothes!!! Most people I know wash underwear before they wear it. What could they possibly sue you for? I should sue you for the $ 35 I spent on those compression shorts just for your stupid answer! I am absolutely expecting some kind of response to this review so let’s see if the owners have any customer service sense and contact me back. Not holding my breath though…

The owner… no words… just an f’ing douchebag and prick. I wouldn’t go there again, EVER. Their prices are atrocious. You can buy new gear at nearly the same prices!!! Avoid at all costs.

We love this place! The owner himself helped the first time we came with new skates for my littles! Once max out grew them halfway sheikh the session mind you we sons them back and got new ones for 6 $! We have gotten succor gear and now traded in our old bikes for new used ones they LOVE! I highly recommend this place. They have advised us along the way and as novices we needed it!

I have been a customer for over 20 years. Barb and Steve are two of the nicest and most professional people I have ever met. I always enjoy my trips to Play it Again sports. I can’t recommend them enough, so if you are ever in need of used sports equipment, stop here first.

We were looking generally for a couple of items. The store is a little cramped, but we found a couple of items. It was pretty much a self-​service situation because we knew what we wanted and found it. Didn’t get to interact with staff very much, but the guy who rang us up was pleasant enough.
We left with a curl bar, a knee support band and some gum. I saw a couple of items that I may be interested in getting, the price was pretty much on par with other stores… but they were new items.
I’d definitely return to see if they have anything new.

Went in there today to sell some sports equipment and it was not a good experience. When I walked in, the one manager was very rude and quite full of himself. Once I left the bags at the counter I decided to walk around the store. I noticed that most of the items are not as discounted as I thought they would based on the condition. In addition, it took 3 different employees to look through my bags for whatever reason, and at one point stopped and told me that there were some items they couldn’t take because of holes in the shoes. I know for a fact that they were not holes in the shoes when the majority of the shoes are brand new or have small markings that can easily be cleaned up. They offered me such a low amount for what they would take, that it wasn’t even worth it. Overall, based on the manager, the store being over-​priced, and offering a low price for items, this place is not worth selling here.

If I could give NO STARS I would. I totally agree with a previous review of how RUDE the manager so-​called owner is. Called to get some info re: equipment, immediately person I was talking with was short and didn’t seem like she wanted to answer my questions. At the end of the call, out of courtesy, I say «thank you»… CLICK! Woman hung up on me! I immediately called back, and gave her a piece of my mind. I was shocked to hear that she was the owner, don’t know how a business thrives with such rude and disgusting attitudes. Her response to me was «I have nothing to say…» Oh now she’s speechless… DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!!! Read the other reviews… Spare yourself time and money and AVOID THIS PLACE

Used clean tennis balls for a quarter a piece. Great for my pitbull that loves to suck on them til they are a pile of slobber. You can’t get a dog tennis ball this cheap in a pet store. Friendly staff too.

Spent just under 200 $. The staff, they didn’t know their inventory, were generally rude.
Steve on the phone, he was awesome and is the reason we came in.
When we were in the store: no one could tell us what items were where and when missing tags, just shrugged. Items were everywhere. It is a bargain hunting atmosphere with prices that don’t reflect the experience.
Most things are made in China anyway.
The tennis racquets, if you know what you are looking at, are reasonable.
Will we make a special trip? No.

Not sure why the reviews are so bad? The staff is really helpful. I’ve been here MANY times now for all my biking needs for me and my family.
The guys on the staff have been patient with me in selecting bikes, in sizing things and even putting on training wheels. I also got a groupon for a bike tune up and my bike rides so nicely now.
Decent prices, this is definitely my go-​to store for sporting needs :)

Sadly, I was extremely excited to go to this play it again sports. This location is horrible. Met the owner, and as being in a family of business owners– pathetic how she speaks to customers.
We made a mistake an read our groupon ticket wrong, but were still contemplating purchasing our items ($ 120 worth of merchandise)
She was rude, spoke down to me like I was an idiot, and kept interrupting me and my husbands quick convo of trying to determine to just grab our gear at the location listed on our Groupon, or bite the bullet and just buy from this location. Afterall we spent over an hour looking for the items we needed,
Staff was very unhelpful when we inquired about left handed used gloves. I got the «look in the bin of a 100 gloves yourself» attitude and personally I don’t know what I was looking for so guidance was needed.
Lost a customer for life. And I’m jn a softball league this year, with hundreds of local players– believe me our $ 120+ will not be all she has lost.

Went there today to by a bike pump. Purchased it went home. Tried to use it and realized it was missing a piece and did not work properly. Therefore within 20 – 25 minutes returned it. Thomas the young man at the front whom I purchased it from and another young man noticed it was missing a piece. So Thomas went In the back and a man named Shaun came up. He did not introduce himself to me, basically said «Well you did not buy it in this condition, because we do not sell a products like this.». So I thought to myself, is he serious I just bought this 20 minutes ago, he thinks I scratched it and took off a piece. I of course got defensive because it was only $ 19.99. I just wanted to exchange it and see if they could show me how it worked because it was not working on my bike. He assumed I ruined it or lost pieces within the 25 minutes I owned it! I was very hurt and upset, he kept on saying, «well we did not sell it like this» and I was thinking, yes you did I JUST bought it! Then he told me I was getting too defensive he said he was just trying to figure out what happened to the bike pump, he said «maybe the pieces fell out in my car,» REALLY, Shaun I do not think so. I bought it the way I brought it back to you 20 minutes later! Why would I lie over 20 bucks? I have all there names and plan on calling Steve the store franchise owner tomorrow! Seriously if Shaun would have come out and said, «Hi my name is Shaun how can I help you» this would have been a much better turn out. I did not exchange it, I returned because I am never giving them a dime of my money again. I have bought there in the past, and have been disappointed with their service, but Shaun you really provided me the worst customer service I have ever had anywhere. A word of advice to you Shaun ask the customer what is wrong and see how you can help that is why you are there and have a job. I live right by this store, but I will drive farther to another sports store to buy my sporting goods!

I was quite surprised at several different things here. By going here rather than a regular sporting goods store you will save money. The prices here are obviously cheaper than buying new since much of the stuff here is used. The prices were lower but not as much as I originally though they would. I found better deals on certain things I was pricing on other internet sites. I think I would still rather go to a store like this. I can view everything live in person so I would be willing to spend a bit more for that.
The staff here was really great. They were very helpful and friendly. For that alone, I would pay a bit more than I was expecting for used equipment. I am not sure how often I am going to be in this area to browse but there are many other locations around to find used equipment. I just hope the staff is just as good at the other locations!

You would think a used sporting goods store would have bargain prices. But not really the case here.
I was looking for skates, ice skates. Just TRY to find a pair of ice skates in your size the way they «organize» their skate selection (see photo)**. It was like rummaging through the back hall closet with the lights out. I got frustrated and ditched the grand idea. I think I’ll buy new skates that have never had any ones smelly feet in them.
**Update: Apparently someone felt my photo was in violation of Unilocal’s photo rules and flagged it down. I’ll describe it, a giant mount of skates on the floor and more falling off the floor to ceiling shelves. It was a horrifying sight to see.

Growing up, my sons who quickly outgrew their kit, got some good trade ins here!

I really can not understand the fascination with shopping at this store, any location. The prices are maybe $ 5 – 10 less on used equipment — I would rather buy new. Don’t sell to them, you get nothing for your stuff, better of on Craigslist with it.

I’m of the belief that most sports and workout equipment is purchased new at a crazy high price then collects dusts. That’s why I buy any exercise gear here. Great prices, gently used.
