Knocking off a star because I spent 3.5 hours there. Otherwise the staff was helpful and I walked out with a license.
Robert (the man who tested me) is really cool and I hope you all get him for your road tests.

Its the DMV after all. After your first DL test at 16 or 18 years old its never fun, never great, never a happy experience. But thats what you get when dealing with any State run monopoly. They have no incentive to be nice and courteaous. They seem to be trained to just move the cattle thru the lines.

Went to get a state ID card for a senior citizen. In and out in under 20 mins, and everyone was very polite. Relatively comfortable waiting areas, given that we hate all forms of government spending.

Thanks so much DMV picture taker for making me feel horrible about my disability. What a great feeling to have. You’re the best!

I know it seems crazy to write a five star review for the DMV/​license branch but I was pleasantly surprised with my recent visit. I arrived VERY early so I could be towards the front of the line. Yes, I arrived an hour before they opened but it was well worth it. My advice– they open at 8am but get there early!
A supervisor came outside a few moments before they opened and had every split into two lines. I walked in right when they opened and walked right up to the counter. All my needs were taken care of quickly & easily. Bonnie was professional and explained everything she was doing. The staff seems to understand people don’t want to spend the whole morning there.
I was not looking forward to visiting the DMV but I was shocked when I had everything done by about 8:30am. Way to go crew at this DMV! I will be back soon but probably not until my license expires! ;)

I might not be as likely to input a review if the writing wasn’t fairly high, but my visit to this location was fairly painless.
I went on a Saturday morning when they opened and upon arriving at 7:25 a.m. was slightly worried when I was about the 50^th person in line outside. However, things moved very quickly once inside and I renewed my license and purchased a license plate sticker in right at 30 minutes.
It’s probably reassuring to read that they know what they’re doing, but they do-​several lines going at a time, and if you are prepared (just visit the website for what you need to complete the services you need), it’ll be a breeze, plus most of the employees were downright pleasant.

«Mel, your new drivers license lists you as a male!!» Hmm… why, yes it does. I have no idea how that happened; I’m no «Pat» from SNL. But, the person who put my info in at this license branch, obviously missed two important details. –My name is Melanie and I have girl parts!!!
After waiting in line for over an hour with a toddler in tow, I was certainly in no hurry to go back to correct it! –I didn’t care that it bugged my husband that the state of IL had him married to a man. After a year, I did finally get it corrected. Having to renew my passport forced me to end the amusing game I was playing with him. I’m officially a woman again. ;) But, thanks to Naper’s license branch, I now have two files in IL. –The years I’ve been a woman and the year IL seemed to have confused me for a cross-​dressing man.
Another screw up from this branch… when my teenage daughter went to get her learners permit, someone screwed up royally. –They gave her a RECEIPT for **A DRIVER’S LICENSE** instead of a learner’s permit. She unknowingly drove around for a week IN MY CAR with a useless piece of paper (a receipt for a license she didn’t even have) instead of a permit. Had she been in an accident, we could have had a mess of legal troubles!
To recap: I was born with X chromosomes and kids shouldn’t unknowingly drive without a learner’s permit. –A little detail to ones job tasks would be appreciated!
Besides some bizarre screw ups, as branches go, I have dealt with very helpful people and the lines do move surprisingly steady. The employees even seem to enjoy their jobs, which is a tall order considering the general mood of the throngs of people who are here.
Tips:
After years of only taking cash and check, they do take debit cards!
If your child is taking their driver’s test, I’d strongly suggest checking them out during school hours during the early afternoon. No rush hour traffic and minimal lines inside. –An optimal environment for a stressed out teenager.
And last of all, you might double-​check your license to make sure you’re the gender your mom says you are.

I went this morning to transfer car title and registration to son who has job transfer to CA and I am giving him our old honda. the lady behind the desk for this service was not nice. rolled eyes and made a face when I asked if I could do paperwork for him as he works in the city. unbelievable. Just asking makes her do that! I was only trying to learn the process and no one was behind me at the time I went to the desk. Funny thing, last time I was there I got terrific service, so I guess I got the grinch today.

The phone System that the Secretary of State uses is terrible! all I wanted to do was talk to a live person to see if their computers were up, but instead the phone system rambled on with a list of every service they have, which took nearly 5 minutes. What a waste of time! Instead, the system should say, push one for a list of our services, Push two for a list of our hours, and push zero for an operator. Instead they rambled on with the list of services and then after five minutes they gave me the option of hitting zero. Can’t our government do better than that???

Overall, my experience was not too bad. I had some trailers to register. When I first tried to register them, the lady at the desk pointed out the paperwork was not completed correctly. She was very helpful, and walked me through every step and line that needed to be fixed. When I came back, I dealt with a very rude lady who basically said she could not do what I needed, so I needed to get out of the way so she could deal with someone else. The last lady I spoke with explained why my paperwork could not be done, and walked me through the dropoff process. Again, mostly a good experience, except for one woman who needs some customer service training.

As reported, the process of registration renewal was relatively painless and the lines moved quickly. Good job. (However, I can’t vouch for the speed and efficiency of other processes at this DMV.)

Let’s be honest. The first thing we think of when we hear DMV is: shoot me. In the head, make it quick. Well, I’ve been at this location a few times and so far, so good. I really hope I don’t jinx myself.
Two times I’ve needed to renew my plates. I was in and out in a few minutes. The line is definitely longer if you are doing anything with a license but for plates needs, easy peasy. I also needed to order replacement plates and that was only one additional stop that included a lady asking a million questions but still painless.
I’m also happy to report they now take visa. This has been a huge problem in the past but now they’ll happily take any form of payment, which I have!

This DMV is incredible! I’ve moved between 3 states and 4 addresses in the past 4 years, as such, I have spent A LOT of time at various DMVs.
I went Saturday morning and got there at 7:10 (it opens at 7:30). There was already a line at the door and they were having a team meeting of some sort inside. The employees inside were happy and clapping (made me feel good about what was to come). Around 7:20 two supervisors came outside. They separated the large line into 3 smaller ones. There was a line for titles & registrations, one for licenses and one for license exams.
The doors opened promptly at 7:30 and the 3 lines filed in (probably 150 or so people in total). Upon entering I was greeted with a smile and handed a number.
I just got married AND moved so I had to change A LOT. I changed my license information, paid, got a new picture, was handed my license, went to the registration line, got a new title, renewed my registration and paid for that too IN UNDER THIRTY MINUTES!!! I was back in my car before 8:00 am!!!
I am BEYOND impressed with this DMV. Bravo to the entire staff. So well organized, friendly and knowledgable. Seriously. Top freakin’ notch!

They run a tight ship. In and out in a half hour! Everyone is so nice, especially Andy.

I went with my Dad to this DMV for his 80^th year drivers test. We had no appointment so I figured this would be all day outing. Paper test, eye exam and the driving test… oh yeah, at least all day! I live in California, and the DMVs there are a living HELL! So, I went prepared and packed something to read and a few Aleves just in case. But before I even knew it, we were in and out of there in 45 minutes. They were even friendly to him. INCREDIBLE!

Awesome service!!! Plate/​sticker renewal in under 3 minutes on a Thursday morning about 8:50 am… also there was no line for drivers license renewals!
Fast, friendly and efficient.
Is this really part of the government.
I do agree about the VERY CRANKY person who is behind the glass when you first walk in… only disappointing part of the experience.

Plates, stickers, replacements, address/​name changes? They all happen fast. Really fast.
Listen to the guy at the window in front. Don’t ask him to repeat anything. Get in the appropriate line. Wait about a minute (or less) to be directed where to go next.
I’ve had issues with seizures before, and if you didn’t know, it can affect your right to drive. Employees are actually sympathetic to this, and will give you the appropriate forms to fill out, AND provide explanations to you, like if you need something waived by a doctor.
Saturdays are very busy. Don’t be a pain in the ass and whine about the wait. You’ve been warned. Everyone waits til the weekends to take care of business. HIGHLY recommend that you go during the day. Most of the things here can be done during a lunch break if you work in the area.

I really cannot believe I am giving a DMV the 5 star treatment, but this facility has EARNED IT!
I have been here two times in less than a month and spent less than 20 minutes each time. Talk about service, and with a smile no less!
Granted I was not renewing my license (because somehow the state thinks I am a great driver and lets me renew through the mail), or taking a drivers test. I had to apply for and pick up something else. However, the clerks were efficient, cheerful, and helpful.
I chose to go out here to avoid the mess downtown. What a great idea. If I need something in the future I will take care of it when I am at our office out here. This DMV really does work well!

When I turned 16 (many a year ago), we decided to go to the facility in Lombard to get my license. Turned out to be the biggest mistake ever because there is not a DMV in the Chicagoland area that runs worse than the one in Lombard (at least not that I’ve found). Waited in line for FOUR hours. Enough said.
A few years later, I vowed never to set foot in that hellhole of a Lombard DMV ever again. My mom had totally forgotten about this location in Naperville, so I decided to give it a whirl when I needed a State ID.
Oh. My. God. 100x better than the Lombard DMV. First of all, almost never a wait. Not even kidding. I’ve been back here a few times since for renewals and such and I’ve never waited more than 20 total minutes, and that includes getting a picture taken. Awesome! The comments about this place running like a well-​oiled machine are certianly true. They all know what is going on and they know how to get you in and out of here in the quickest time possible.
Even after my entire purse was stolen with every piece of I.D. that I owned (literally everything besides my birth certificate), they still helped me get a new license in no time flat. Usually they require you to bring in your SSC, birth certificate, passport… something. But my SSC and passport were in the purse that was stolen (stupid). Not even a problem for them and I was out of there in 15 minutes with a new copy of my license in hand.
I’m usually not at all forgiving of government institutions because they usually all totally suck, but this DMV holds a special place in my heart for not subjecting all of its patrons to a soul-​sucking wait. And the employees are pretty nice, too.

WOWZA! I had a pleasant experience at a government office.
I went in for the first time last week to get my new stickers for my license plate and was out in LESS than 5 mintues with my stickers. And though it was my first time coming to this location, I’ve heard from others that this location is notorious for having short lines and being pretty speedy. Hoorah!
The employees were courteous and friendly. The lady I paid the money to and got the sticker and receipt from was all smiles and oh so friendly. I really appreciate them making what is generally an über annoying errand as pain free as possible.
