Dr. Jack is a contact lens and sports vision specialist. While Dr. Schoppe successfully works in general practice of optometry specializing in Glaucoma and Dry Eye Syndrome.

History

Established in 1938.

We are a family optometric practice servicing all eye medical needs. Dr. Jack is highly respected in the Illinois eye health community. The Gardner Family Eye Care Practice has been serving the Southwest side of Chicago and suburbs for over 70 years, where Dr. James Gardner Sr. founded the Practice in 1938.

The Doctors in the Gardner Family Eye Care Practice are licensed in full-​scope optometry: vision exams, contacts, glasses, and also eye health exams and management of glaucoma and other eye and health diseases/​emergencies.

Business Owner

John J. Gardner, alias Dr. Jack, completed his Optometric studies at the Ohio State University where he was 3^rd in his very competitive and competent class. He had at the undergraduate level been given an Academic Scholarship to participate in a unique program at the prestigious Villanova University in Pennsylvania where he excelled. Upon his return to Chicago, he began teaching at the Illinois College of Optometry where he remained for eight years, supervising students’ clinical work at the same time that he was caring for patients in his and his father’s Optometric office at 63^rd and Pulaski, even then considered a state-​of-​the-​art optometric practice. Dr. Jack continues to act as mentor to ICO students who come to our office for experience, a model of optometric organizations.

Dr. Jack and his wife Paula have two sons, Jack and Andrew, and live in Orland Park.
