Waxing The City

Samantha did a great job! She talked through everything she was going to do which was nice. A lot of users on Unilocal said this place has a «no tipping policy» which is untrue at this location. The few times I have been here I have always been asked if I would like to put the tip on my card or leave cash. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind tipping for good service, but when a place advertises that it has a no tipping philosophy, it just seems wrong to ask. Also, their prices are a lot higher than other salons in the area that do just as good of a job.

Samantha is beyond amazing. Very customer service oriented nd knowledgeable about her field. Starting to become a regular here!

I came here because my normal waxer was booked up and I wanted to get my underarms waxed before I went out of town. While I’m a regular waxer, this was the first time I’d gotten my underarms done. I also wanted to get the area below my navel done, not my entire stomach, a piece about 2 inches long (maybe) and 1.5 inches wide. My normal waxer charges me about $ 10 to do this area, if I get charged at all. When setting the appointment I was sure to let the girl know the issue as I didn’t see that small area anywhere on their site for listed body parts. She told me that I could let my waxer know my issue and they could wax it, but the charge would be discussed then. I said ok, haltingly, and made the appointment.
It’s a pretty salon with wood flooring, bright lighting and clean shelving for their products. (And yes, they do try to sell them during the session). Sarah was my waxer and did a good job. I can’t complain too much about the service on her end, she was funny and bubbly and did not double dip! The only issues I had with her were that she was a bit too quick as there were hairs that were missed on my ‘happy trail’ that I had to take care of myself later and they were definitely long enough to be waxed or tweezed. I did not notice them there due to the lighting in the room, I did once I arrived at home. I was uncomfortable but again, first time I’d ever had my underarms waxed, so I expected that. Sarah told me I did have some bleeding, which also has never happened before, not even for my Brazilian wax. After the deed was done, Sarah applied a powder and gave me some aftercare instructions.
It was time to check out. I headed up to the register and was told that my service for the two was $ 54!!! But because I was a first time client, I’d get a whopping 50% off. Ordinarily, I would love 50% off anything, shoes mainly, but this seemed a bit high. When I asked for a explanation of the charges, I was told that small area that I wanted waxed was $ 30 as it was my abdomen. Um, what?!
I reiterated the fact that the area was small and had I known I would have been charged for my whole abdomen, I’d have either gotten my entire abdomen (from sternum to hip bone) waxed or skipped it entirely. I also recalled the conversation I’d had on the phone with the person who made the appointment and how i explained that the area was small. They weren’t budging. I decided then and there that cheating on my normal waxer was a decision I regretted. Thank goodness for the 50% discount. I paid the bill and left, never to return. No apologies, no nothing. They should be able to make a difference of your entire torso and a maybe 4 inch area. Once I noticed the hairs and had to tend to them myself, I was even madder. But I figure it’s karma for cheating on my normal waxer. I won’t say her name because I don’t want her name attached to this review or her to know I cheated. I’m that ashamed.
Come here if you wish. Though Sarah was good, I won’t be back. It only gets the stars because of her. Without her service, it’s a zero in my book.

The smoothest I’ve ever been. Special care to avoid pain and lots of attention to detail.

Walk in experience. Was not sure if they would take a walk in but for brows for my 13 year old daughter I figure it was a quick job and worth stopping since we were right there, saving me from driving out of the way.
Walking in, the reception area was clean but lots of products and the form they require you fill out has a section on the back that the waxing person fills out for products they recommend to you. As someone who has worked in a commission structured environment in the past this was not something I found pleasant as the customer to have pretty much shoved right in my faced before even signing on the dotted line to give consent for the service.
The employee behind the counter was nice and explained the 2 eyebrow services they offered. 1 being a full shaping at a whopping $ 30 or so and a tween service for $ 12. Now I understand they are supposed to be a no tipping salon but in my opinion that is too much.
The employee told me that for a walk in they had time for the tween service not a full shaping. I asked what the difference was specifically and she told me that they cleaned up under the brows and the center of the 2. My daughter had her brows waxed 6 weeks ago and the under brow area and center sounded good to me. At her age I don’t think the top needs to be shaped unless she had some very bushy brows.
So we waited a few minutes and a woman came out and took my daughter back. I was going to go back as well but was brushed off by the employee. Now I understand that as mom I should have marched my butt back their anyway so I am at fault for that but the waxer made it seem like I would be in the way and I had no idea the size of the room. Also I know my daughter will sit still and not complain if I am not there and be more of a drama queen about the pain of it if I am. So I stayed up front.
A few minutes later my daughter was back up. I took 1 look at her and could see that she was a little red like normal after getting waxed but the problem was I could barely tell that she had been waxed by the amount of hair that had been removed. I commented on that and was told the woman who did the wax would not have time to fix it but another employee would. Umm, ok. Does this mean I’m now going to pay for a shaping service? I’m not sure at that point because we were ushered to another room, this time with me too. My daughter laid down on a table and under the lighting I could see how irritated her skin actually was from the waxing she had received practically on her eye lid a good ¹⁄₈ of an inch below her eyebrow.
I said to the new waxing employee that my daughter actually shouldn’t be waxed again now that I can see in the light because it will hurt her skin. The waxer told me she was going to tweeze the hair to fix it. Uh yea no. I said I was not ok with that, if I wanted to sit through tweeting my daughters eyebrows I could have done that at home not paid $ 12-​$ 30 and wasted what would have been probably ½ an hour. I have tweeted my daughters eyebrows several times in the past and only recently convinced her that waxing would be less difficult because with waxing you pull 1 hair and she is covering her eye with her hand and wants a minute and it takes forever.
Well because I tell the waxer that I’m not going to sit here three tweeting because it will take forever and the kid will just be in pain she has the nerve to tell me I must not know how to tweeze. Are you kidding? So insulting your customers is a practice here really? Confused by her statement I said you pull the skin taunt and pull in the direction of the hair growth. It’s not rocket science. And continuing to insult me ignorantly said «well where do you pull the hair from?» Seriously. From the shaft, I told her. All of this being a ridiculous interaction that should not have occurred if you know how to speak to your customer.
I told my daughter to get up and we walked out front. I told the front desk employee that we were not getting them fixed because it could not be fixed without tweeting and that isn’t what we were there for.
The woman behind the desk said she would not charge us for today since we were unhappy with the service. I said no we weren’t happy and would not be returning. Absolute waste of time.

I have been trying waxing spas all over Naperville and I have not been impressed. This place used only hard wax for the underarms. Hard wax doesn’t get off all the hairs and a few days later I had a far amount of hair already grown back. I would like to see this place use a mixture of waxes to remove hair. This is the only way to ensure a good quality wax.

BEST WAXING EXPERIENCE EVER! After having been to some awful places I had sworn off waxing for good… I was very skeptical to try this place but I decided to give it a try after hearing rave reviews. My Cerologist Sam was able to answer all of my questions and made me feel at ease. She was AMAZING and she educated me as to what products and after care I need for my skin to stay healthy, glowing and most importantly smooth! I’m obsessed with this place it’s modern, clean and the staff is super friendly.

Waxing The City Naperville s a very modern, friendly, and warm feeling waxing studio. The staff was very friendly, informative, and polite. It has a very welcoming and comfortable environment. I enjoyed my experience from the time I walked in to the end of my treatment, which is why I scheduled another appointment. They provided exceptional service by Chavon and she answered all my questions. They have a No Tipping policy, which I thought was nice. I would recommend Waxing the City to all men and women in the Chicago land area.

A first class establishment well worth a drive out from the city. Relatively painless procedure (more than I’ve ever had) and awesome staff! It’s important to find a place that treats you like you’re home. I found the owners to be very welcoming while being forthright and honest with a waxing package that would work for me. I would definitely recommend these guys for anyone wanting to get ready for beach season

I recently got my privates waxed here (balls, shaft, sides, butt crack) I was a nervous, but once the pants came off the ladies were very personable and talked me through the wax to take my mind off some of the pain and the awkwardness of being front and center. It really wasn’t that bad. I like the look and feel and so does my new girlfriend. After i got the wax i got a nice tshirt that says ‘trim the bushes and the house will look bigger. My house isn’t big, but I think it looks bigger now. HaHa. I’d recommend this establishment.

I recently moved to Illinois and tried a few waxing places but each one of them was a disappointment! My coworker recommended this place, it is awesome! The staff is friendly and very helpful. My eyebrows have never looked this good! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Had a great experience at this place. The staff was very friendly and the actual service was awesome. The process was very hygienic. They even had stations to charge your phones. Would definitely go back. Appropriate pricing.

The service I received here has left me in awe! Where has this been my entire life?! Not only was the service impeccable, the staff was ridiculously enthusiastic and helpful. I know I’m not going anywhere but here from here on out. Very professional yet comfortable environment. My skin has never looked better! Highly highly recommend!
Also the owners Anna and Maz were the sweetest most humble people I’ve ever met. I can tell they truly care about individualizing each customer’s care and making you feel very comfortable. :) :)

Just moved to Huntington Beach, CA from Naperville IL. I wish they had a Waxing The City out here! I tried European Wax Center and Pretty Kitty since I moved, but they don’t compare. I am an extremely picky person, and without a doubt this was the best waxing experience I have ever had. I have been waxing my entire life so I am not new to salons. Waxing the city has a really modern and fun vibe. Everything was super clean and they even provided disposable undergarments and products to clean up before my wax. The owner was at the salon the multiple times I went, and was so sweet! The technician was very professional and provided services with minimal pain, which is not what I am familiar with when it comes to waxing. I would highly recommend this place!!!

I have had a Unilocal account for some time now but I have yet to make a review until now. So that alone should prove that I’ve never been so disgusted with a business before.
Ladies and gentlemen let me just give you a heads up and tell you that If you like getting waxed. Go to European wax center… DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Long story short, this place is an absolute disaster as far as organization goes & the UNBELIEVABLE lack of respect the owners Anna & even more so her husband Maz, gave my boyfriend and I was out of this world. The owners screwed up horribly with their dysfunctional operating system and tried making their personal screw ups OUR FAULT, they talked down to US, insulted US, and CUSSED at US. Never have I ever had an experience like this with anywhere I’ve ever been in my life. My boyfriend and I are just absolutely appalled with how these 2 owners think its okay to call us on our personal cellphone and SWEAR/​LITERALLY YELL at a CUSTOMER! And when they weren’t yelling, they were talking over either my boyfriend or myself. It is NOT okay in the slightest to talk to ANYONE with that kind of disrespect let alone one of your (ex) customers. Their little philosophy is «We don’t except tipping, just tip top waxing and referring us to everyone you know!» Well guess what. if there is ANY money that I would want to give to any employee at this specific location of Waxing The City her name would be Kiesha (unsure of her last name) because the 2 Brazilian waxes I had gotten done by her. and they were great! Don’t get me wrong. But I hope she knows sooner or later what kind of people she is working for (and i’m sure she will) because they are 2 of the most disrespectful people (even more so «Maz» the husband) I have ever met in my life. The front desk studio manager Hilda had more respect in her than the 2 owners put together, BY FAR. At the end of the day though, I would not give my business to this company even if they gave me multiple complimentary waxes. No thank you, NOT INTERESTED. Moral of the story: GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE TO GET WAXED. I would go for European waxing center!

I have been to this establishment twice since they have opened and absolutely love the service !!
Would highly recommend this place for a good wax service, love the no tipping just tip top waxing philosophy
