Drs. Helfman, Lasky & Associates

My last eye appointment was discouraging enough for me to finally jump ship from this place. I told the doctor of a new development with my eyesight (beyond near or far sighted issues). The doctor said «that’s a tough one» and sent me on my way.
That was the extent of his interest in my new vision issue. No referral, no recommendation on what to do about it. I’m now being treated by a different optometrist at a different practice and I’m on the road to improved vision.

I recently visited this eye office and from the welcoming front desk to the awesome Doctor Lasky it was a pleasurable experience. They made my trip easy going with no pressure. He took his time with me, explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. His assistant was super friendly and knowledgable. There is nothing bad to say about this office.

Have been with this optometric firm over 40 years! EVERY optometrist I see, from
Dr. Prevost to Dr. Helfman and now Dr. Huffer is friendly, efficient and caring. Have gone from glasses to contacts back to glasses and now cataract implants, all with this firm and not one complaint. Thank you all!

I give three stars because this review is more about the eye glass section then the eye care. The front desk staff and doctors are very nice. Most of the eyewear techs are good and for the most part friendly, that is except one! Her name is Robin and she can be the rudest, impolite and disrespectful person I have ever met. She has no patience and no problem making it obvious. If you take too long looking for glasses she will walk away and help some one else. For a place as professional as this I would expect a lot more from their employees.

I would give the doctors and technicians 5 stars (I have seen Drs. MacDonald and Helfman), but the office staff is bad enough to remove a couple stars.
Some of the office staff is nice, but ever since they did the huge remodel, there have been a few really rude people there, both behind the desk and in the eyewear section. One made fun of the way my name was spelled to my face (also, it is not spelled in an unusual way at all), another rolled her eyes at me when I was scheduling a follow up appointment at the doctor’s request because she didn’t think I should schedule it so soon (even though that was exactly what the doctor said AND wrote down). A few times I have gotten an attitude like I was bothering the desk staff when I stopped by to pick up contact lenses or schedule an appointment. Sorry I was trying to give you business, I guess?
I mean, really? I don’t understand how the doctors and actual technicians/​assistants can be so warm, friendly, and competent while the office staff can be so rude and off-​putting. Maybe some of the office staff are relatives of the doctors or something? I can’t imagine keeping a customer-​facing job with that kind of attitude unless there’s some nepotism involved. That is just speculation.
That said, if you call to make an appointment and are treated like garbage, don’t let that affect your opinion of the doctors. The doctors are great — the best I’ve ever had, actually, which is why I keep going. If they were anything less than stellar, I’d never suffer being treated like crap. I also won’t say anything to the doctors, because they MUST be someone’s favorite daughter or granddaughter or niece or something — there is no way that much rudeness and incompetence would be tolerated otherwise.

Dr. Macdonald is terrific! It is a newly renovated full service office.
All the technicians are good at their job and very nice.
