Nashua Sew & Vac

I purchased a used Bernina Artista 180 sewing machine during June 2016. The salesperson Joann was very kind and very helpful during my stay. She went beyond out of her way to help me with getting to know the machine. She was very patient and addressed every one of my questions. I bought a great machine. too, and her help was most instrumental in introducing me to this great machine. Ruthie, the owner, was very helpful, too. This is great store all around with great staff, great products and all stock and classes up to date with the latest of everything. A real southern NH regional sewing gem.

I couldn’t be happier with the tune up on my 25 year old White 1010 mechanical sewing machine. It had really been acting up lately, making the simplest of mending tasks an absolute nightmare. It screeched and squealed, the thread bunched up and broke… sewing anything was completely unenjoyable.
I recently looked at new, basic sewing machines and wondered if I should replace instead of repair. But, the new machines looked and felt flimsy and lightweight compared to this solid, old machine.
I’m so glad I went for the tune up. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was completed very quickly. In addition to the tune up a $ 5 drive belt was replaced. This machine sews like a dream now. It’s quiet, the stitches are even… and best of all, I’m no longer stressed out when I need to sew something.

This is the second time I have visited the shop and was treated rudely by the staff and owner. Will not return.

Warren is most helpful with the vacuum questions. I have 2 ~30 yo vacs and he had the genuine Panasonic belts for one and ordered the exact part for the Hoover. .. every place on line showed this part as obsolete, no longer made. Great service and knowledge and it doesn’t get better than this. The women seem most helpful on the sewing side of the business and my Wife was talking with them.

At first visit I thought it was super cluttered and messy. I was afraid to move around or I’d accidentally displace something important to someone. However, after a few more visits for supplies, classes and help I feel like I’m at home in my own sewing space.
The people working here are the real deal. They are sewing, creating and sharing their craft with others in such a genuine and real way. I’ve taken a serging class here, I’ve had machines repaired and serviced here and my 8 year old daughter has taken a children’s class here. All great experiences.

Nashua Sew and Vac is a great store for high end vacuums and sewing machines. I for one have never bought a sewing machine, but I have picked up a vacuum. They have a large selection of high end machines and a lot of refurbished machines as well. While their prices are on the higher side, they do give excellent customer service. They also had all of the attachments that we needed for our Miele vacuum.

Walked in ready to spend up to $ 500 on a new Miele vacuum. The store was cluttered, with vacuum parts, accessories and attachments everywhere. The result was that it was impossible to figure out which model came with which attachments. Even the lady trying to help me was confused as she tried to figure out what parts came with which model. It was also tough that the models weren’t next to their price tags. I found one I liked within my price range but was then told it was almost $ 1000. Walked out so confused that I’m going to go somewhere else and will probably buy a different brand.

A few months ago I bought my Bernina here for a steal of a deal. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable showing me many options for machines. With your sewing machine purchase you get a complementary «meat and potatoes» class. This class has all new sewing machine people with different machines. You bring your own and they show you a number of tips and tricks with the instructor showing each person how to do it on their machine. I was amazed by the knowledge and tips shared as I had been using my previous machine all wrong! I have returned a number of times to buy accessories and the staff is always more than happy to help and even order items for me. I do enjoy it there but I will say it is an older crowd. Maybe I am ahead of my generation with all my sewing!

This is is a review of the Vacuum part of this store.
This was my first time here despite the fact that my parents have lived in Nashua since 1998.
My husband and I got a vacuum (at a big box retailer) as a present for our wedding in 2010. After buying a house, we realized how horrible of a job it did at getting our largely bare wood floors clean. Of course, we weren’t going to get rid of it since there was nothing ‘really’ wrong with it.
Fast forward 2.5 years, it finally broke! Oh, Joyful Happy Day!
We did a ton of research online and asked friends and narrowed it down to a Miele. My husband found Nashua Sew and Vac and went to find out more info.
We went together the next day and the Vacuum guy was there. He remembered my husband, as well as the models we had been interested in. Even though he had explained the vacuum we wanted to my husband the day before, he took the time to explain to me EVERYTHING about the vacuum we were about to purchase.
I am very impressed with the level of customer service at this store.
+ They give you 15 days to use your new vacuum and bring it back for store credit or exchange it for another product (This is great for us because we were between 2 miele vacuums).
+ You have 3 days to bring it back for a full refund.
+ Within 2 years of purchase, you bring it in for a full tune up for free.
+ They will periodically send out coupons for discounts on attachments, bags, and accesories.
+ The vacuum man explained when and how to change out the filters and how to prolong the life of the different filters so we don’t waste our money and get the most of our filters.
I’m looking forward to what I hope will be a long, happy relationship with this store. I am currently in a love affair with our new vacuum, which works AMAZING and cant wait to get the car cleaning attachments for some holiday in the near future.
I highly recommend this place.

I’m from out of state & needed to add the name & baptismal date on our families baptismal gown & stole. I own a Babylock embroidery machine but did not know the sex, name or date of the Baptism before i arrived to be with my daughter & son-​in-​law for the birth of their 1^st baby. I called about 4 sewing machine stores & all but this shoppe turned me down. The staff here are very knowledgable & helpful. They have an amazing variety of machines & lots of classes. Thanks Ruthie for your helping a fellow seamstress out.

I’m giving Nashua Sew & Vac 5 stars largely based on their customer service.
I’ve been taking my vacuum here for 7+ years for regular maintenance/​service. Hauling the vacuum up and down the stairs in my home was getting to be a pain and suffered damage the 2 or 3 times I dropped it (that’s a whole other story). The folks at NS&V did the best they could to keep my vac operational given the fact that I didn’t want to spend much money fixing the damage I had done. I had noticed that Sew & Vac sold vacuum cleaners. On one trip in to pick-​up my vac after I had it cleaned and belt (s) changed I took down the name of the brands of vacs they sell.
Yes, I could have gone to one of the chains to purchase a vacuum but I really liked the service they provided and how helpful they had been over the course of the 7 years I have been going there.
After a lot of research, I decided to go with one of the Miele models. I made an initial visit to talk to someone about the Miele I had my eye on. After spending 30 minutes with me, the sales person talked me down from the model I wanted. The woman kept apologizing for the fact that the guy that knows everything about vacuum cleaners wasn’t there but she was fantastic. I didn’t buy the vacuum that day because I wanted to take a few days to look into the less expensive model that the sales person had suggested.
A week after my trip to NS&V I returned to make the purchase of the vacuum the salesperson had suggested (which was about $ 300 less than the one I initially intended to purchase). On this trip, the guy with all the vacuum cleaner knowledge was there. Even though the store was busy he spent 30 – 40 minutes with me reviewing the function of the model I was going to buy vs the one I decided to buy. He also told me not to buy any of the accessories for the Miele vacuum until I used the vacuum for a few months. He showed me the accessories that are available and while I was at the store I thought to myself that I would never need any of that stuff. As it turns out, I’m going back this weekend (I’ve had the Miele vacuum for over 3 months now) to buy the extra long crevice tool. The salesperson also explained the warranty and showed me how to change the filters and bags.
Although my older vacuum cleaner is still functional I only use it when I don’t feel like grabbing the new vac if it’s upstairs. I never thought I would say this about something I use for my chores but I love my new vacuum and I’m glad I went with the folks at Nashua Sew & Vac.

Yeah, not so much. I had to go with one star because there USED to be a review on Unilocal that had 2 stars but it got removed somehow. That review tipped me off as to what to expect for «service». It said «Rude.» It was dead on.
I called, thinking maybe the other reviewer had caught someone on a bad day. Nope. The woman who answered the phone was the most curt and abrupt woman I’ve ever dealt with. I’ll add «Unpleasant» to the «Rude» comment from before.
I had a problem with my vacuum cleaner and asked if they repaired my model. «Yes.»
«Oh, good! Can I bring it down for someone to look at? It’s only a slipped belt and…»
I was cut off with an weary explanation of «It’ll take a week.» Awkward silence.
I stopped, a week? «But it’s only a slipped belt, I know there’s a tool to re-​hook it…»
Cut off again with «Well, he’s not here.» More awkward silence.
Ohhhkayyyy…“Will he be in tomorrow?”
Impatiently expressed, «Look, you can bring it in tomorrow and he’ll let you know.»
Do you think I brought it in the following day? Would YOU bring ANYTHING to people like that?

Unilocal…do yourself a favor and re-​post that other «filtered» comment. It’s more accurate that the other two reviews, in my opinion.

I purchased a vacuum cleaner here about two months ago. Great experience! They were helpful on the phone when I called asking questions about various models and couldn’t have been more helpful when I visited the store. The woman who helped me knows her products, asked me what type of machine I was looking for and what sort of floors I have in my house. She not only made knowledgeable recommendations, she told me that I did NOT need a higher-​priced machine!
I selected a vacuum, brought it home, and discovered that it wouldn’t work as well on the rugs in my house as I thought. When I brought it back to exchange for another, they kept their word and cheerfully made the switch.
The folks at Nashua Sew & Vac said it was important to them that I be happy with my purchase. They mean what they say!

I don’t have many sewing supply stores to compare this to… but, it’s staffed by a bunch of older women who know their stuff about sewing machines. I kind of feel like local specialty stores are dying off, so I appreciate this one.
I drove 1:15 to get here because it’s the closest Elna USA dealer to Newport, RI. They have everything from the entry-​level $ 150 machine to the $ 12,000 transformer computerized ridonkulo-​machine.
