History

Established in 2014.

When Alison and her husband, Brian, opened Brian’s Custom Theaters & Hi-​Fi in Nashville in January 2014, they both said, «Wouldn’t it be great to open a record shop next door?» As it happened, the space next door become available sooner than expected, and in November of 2014, Alison’s Record Shop was born. Alison partners with Sonny Collier, who brings over 50 years experience in collecting, buying and selling vintage rock, blues, and jazz to the shop. In addition, the shop sells classical, musicals/​soundtracks, hard rock and metal, as well as 45s and CDs.

The records in the shop come from a variety of sources. Some of the records are from Sonny’s extensive collection – he was the guy who was saving everybody’s LPs back when people were getting dumping them in favor of CDs. Alison also buys personal collections and has a network of online sellers that she gets the hard to find items from.

Alison has a classical music background and plays the cello. The record shop is giving her the opportunity to explore new genres of music. She enjoys learning about the albums and their musicians from her customers, and is happiest when her customers find that elusive album they have been looking for!
