If it hasn’t already, this Kroger will be closing very soon. I stopped in on Super Bowl Sunday to get a few things we had forgotten. Walking in the door, the first thing I noticed was that the décor looked like Kroger’s from the 80’s and the store itself was only maybe 1⁄3 full of merchandise. Apparently they aren’t reordering anything before they finally close. Skip it.

This place suffers a half-done attempt to turn it into a nice looking store. Basically you can see at the front on the sides how they’ve worked pretty hard to set up a nice selection and display, but the interior of the store is lacking. Sadly, due to the nice setup for the produce section, selection is also lacking… huge open spaces, wide enough for 3 or 4 carts, but not a watermellon to be found. The middle of the store is an old Kroger… the front is a newer Kroger that has not really changed too much in a while. They need to finish what they started, fix some of the floor in back… beyond that, parking is ok, selection is your generic Kroger selection but with fewer ethnic choices than the one on Thomson I think… While I don’t actively dislike this one, it’s gotten the name The Ghettoger from the rundown back and armed guards. Never feared for safety there, but it looks like they have concerns enough to have someone armed standing there to be seen.

For the ‘international corridor’(metro calls this part of town that, I am not making it up) this place doesnt have the best international foods section or a decent produce section. I guess you can hop on down to the ethnic markets for that. All that aside, it is pretty clean, if not a little crowded and they have Genny Light and a good variety/selection of super ghetto CHEAP beer — which I enjoy. Also — the security guards arent as zealous as the ones on E Thompson Lane, even though I’d assume this is a rougher part of town? Those E. Thompson guards need a life.
