In addition to comprehensive eye health examinations, specialty contact lenses, and the latest selection of eye-​wear, our Belle Meade practice provides a variety of services including Low Vision Therapy and Vision Rehab.

Established in 1976.

We provide comprehensive eye exams for the entire family. Our contact lens exams and fittings include soft lenses, hard lenses, and specialty lenses. We treat medical conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, and hypertensive retinopathy as well as infections and injuries. We specialize in vision therapy and low vision.

Business Owner

Dr. Richard Durocher, a life-​long Middle Tennessee resident, is committed to providing excellence in eye care and enhancing the quality of life for not just his own patients, but patients everywhere by helping to develop new products and procedures.

For nearly two decades, Dr. Durocher has been heavily involved in clinical research for a number of related eye care topics, including ocular surface disease, contact lenses, and contact lens care systems. His expertise and studies have created demand for his lectures on eye care products on an international scale. He has previously served as president for the state association of optometric physicians and authored numerous published articles for medical journals. Highly respected among his peers, Dr. Durocher received the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians’ Optometrist of the Year award in 2011.

I went to see Dr. Durocher on 9⁄28 after googling top rated optometrists in Nashville. I needed to see a eye specialist quickly because I was experiencing flashing lights and was afraid of having a detached retina.
While I found his front staff and nurses to be top notch and friendly, Dr. Durocher’s bedside manner left much to be desired. I had not been to an eye doctor in 4 years because of personal circumstances. Dr. Durocher was very cold and unfriendly about how horrible it was that I had not been to an eye doctor in 4 years. While I understand he is in the business of trying to make sure people use eye doctors regualry, he could have inquired about what circumstances surrounded the absence. At the end of the exam he asked me if I knew the signs of detached retina, I replied of course because that was the reason I had made the appointment. He replied since I knew the signs so well I should name them to him. His tone was very combative-​odd because he’d only spent less than 10 minutes during the duration of the appointment. Of course you probably had to be there, but I’ve never met a physician who was so unfriendly and non-​personal. There are too many eye specialists in Nashville who are kind and want to get to know you. I recommend Peace Eye Care highly, I should have waited for an appointment there where you experience kindness and a high level of professional knowledge. For the price you pay you should be able to get both.

Do not go to the Lafayette TN location! The staff is incompetent. When I brought up the fact that they overcharged for my glasses– they did acknowledge that and advised that they would refund the money– they told me an amount of around $ 300. Then after waiting several months and trying to get the refund — I called their home office. Now I will say the home office staff is very nice and they agreed to send my refund in the amount that was told to me initially. the check was mailed out and then I was called to be told that it was the wrong amount that they only owed by a portion of what they initially stated that they owed me. It is now going on 6 months and still I am dealing with this!!! On top of that I didn’t care for the glasses as the lenses did not seem as strong as my prior ones that I got from my previous eye doctor.
Also– unless you are Baptist or Church of Christ– if a particular member of the office staff finds out– she may ridicule you like she did me and my daughter. Now I will say that she did not do this in the office — it was outside of the office however it was done in front of my daughter and in a very mean and hateful way.

Great staff! Very friendly and Professional. Vision Therapist, Kate is the best! My son can’t wait to see Mrs. Kate every week for his vision therapy sessions. She has improved not only his vision, balance and coordination but his confidence as well! Dr. Durocher is so knowledgable and friendly as well. Thanks to everyone at Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee and Dr. Durocher!

I visited Dr. Durocher for a Lasik consultation and was highly impressed with my experience at his office. If I don’t end up getting Lasik, I will definitely go back, and have already recommended him to some people. He was thorough, friendly, and competent. I would give 4.5 stars if i could, and it would have been 5 if they had offered beverages and played ESPN instead of the boring and repetitive eye condition informational content on the office’s TVs.
