I had my hair done twice at this shop. The first time I was told to be there at 9am for my appointment. I got there and the person that was suppose to braid my hair wasn’t there. She arrived over a hour late. The braider seemed uncomfortable with putting micros in my hair so Martha(owner) did them. Although Martha had to stop many times to answer phone calls and other things, the braiding experience was fine. I just watched tv. While I was getting braided, Martha told me I needed 3 bags of hair but will only charge me for 2 like she quoted me online. I thanked her and decided to purchase some hair oils and butters from her even though I make my own as a thank you to her. She made sure to tell me that next time I will need 3 bags. I paid with my card and was on my way. I was happy with my hair and decided to start setting aside money to get my hair braided again in a couple months. My second experience was not so great. I truly got to see how unorganized and unprofessional this place is. I made my appointment through email. I quickly got a response to my email(less than hour) for an appointment. I got to my appointment at 9 and there were 4 customers(including me) and 2 braiders. The first 30min to hour of my appointment was spent sitting in a chair and while the 2 women called other braiders on the phone to see if they could come in. One customer left and 2 more came in for 930 appointments. From what I could tell, everyone had an appointment but there were just two braiders there. Over the next couple hours and several phone calls later, braiders trickled in to help. I was moved around 3 times to 3 different braiders until I landed with the one who did majority of my hair. It seemed like I was done in record time. From the front my hair looked great but I should’ve inspected it more and should’ve known something was wrong when they handed me leftover hair from only 2 bags of hair. Last time I was there, 3 bags were needed ad I was told 3 bags would be needed the next time I came. However, I didn’t think about this at the time because I was so happy to get out of there. I tried to pay with my card like I did last time and was told I couldn’t because the internet was down. I didn’t understand what the internet at the shop had to do with a card reader on a cellphone. So I searched for an ATM and came back to pay. When I got home, my braids were puffy. It looked like I had my braids for weeks. You could see my natural hair coming out of the braids like a frizzy puffy mess. My micros were also big and the ones in the center were semi cornrow braided. My hair looked very then from the small amount of hair used for my head size. I emailed twice and sent pics. I didn’t get a response. She was super quick to email me back for an appointment but not when I messaged about being dissatisfied with my hair. I had to message her on FB. I finally got a response to call her. I called and left a voicemail. She returned my call hours later. I called again and got a voicemail. I explained that I work very long hours and rather communicate through email since I keep getting voicemail and don’t have the luxury to make phonecalls. I gave up trying to communicate with Martha and took my braids down 2 weeks later. They just looked so bad and I have to keep a professional, neat appearance. I didn’t mention other things I observed while I was in shop. It is really a very disorganized business and the hair quality is poor. If you do visit the shop, bring your own hair and make sure Martha braids your hair. It will take longer because she stops often to deal with shop business but when she did my braids, the did look great.

It is truly unfortunate that I have to write this review but the quality of customer service I received here was beyond suboptimal. Almost a month ago, I came to the this shop to get my Marley twists. While I was told to arrive at 8am, the shop owners didn’t arrive until 9am(yes, an hour later & only after multiple followup calls) to begin braiding my hair. This completely inconvenienced my day; however, since I was beholden to these braiders, I didn’t complain or make a big fuss. My Marley twists were nice and lasted for about a month before they needed to be taken out. Given the price and average quality of the braiding, I’d probably try another braider in the future. The true inconvenience however was making an appointment to get these badboys out of my head! I called a week in advance to make an appointment and was told to arrive once again at 8am. When I arrived at the shop at 8am and called after no one arrived within 30 mins, I was told that they couldn’t start taking down my hair until 1pm due to other clients… In short, the braiding here is fine but the unapologetically poor customer service was enough to stop me from ever returning!

Thanks Martha my wife’s experience was very pleasant as always. She had great fun, talking and laughing and the Shop is very clean and well maintained. She always talks about the fantastic experience and I see the results from S and E African Hair Braiding(more ways that 1) lol and I would recommend S and E to anyone looking for Professional African Hair Braiding in the Greater Nashville, TN area.

I don’t know how the braid shop is still in business. I had twists done they were awful. The braider didn’t clean up the braids after she was done. The owner never did come in the salon! Just awful waste of money and time!

I had my hair twisted by this shop 1 week ago. The first day I had two braids to come out. The next day three braids came out. Since, I have one braid to come out in Macy’s and one in Target while walking. My natural hair is unraveling out of the twist and it’s only been a week. I would not recommend this shop at all for a professional job. The two women were friendly but in the end there were all kind of excuses that were made for why there was hair sticking out. I was told that the hair that I provided was too soft. The owner herself confirmed with the lady’s twisting my hair that the hair was good and okay to use. They both agreed that the hair was okay. As far as the strays, all they needed to do was cut the strays and they were very lazy about doing this. They didn’t pay very good attention to detail as I had frays that could have been cut off. It looks like my hair was done 2 months ago instead of 1 week ago.
