Smokers Abbey is East Nashville’s premium cigar lounge. We offer handrolled cigars from some of the best boutique companies in the world. Smokers Abbey is also the home to The Southern Fried Pipe Club. We build community around the fine art of pipe smoking. We offer a wide variety of pipe tobacco starting from the newby to the old school pipe smoker. Or cigar lounge is open from 10:00 Am — and we close late. You can find the game on the big screen and new friends to talk to. We sell Camacho, Drew Esta te, Corb oba and Morales, Chubby, Crowned Heads, Room 101, Nestor Miranda, Viva Republica, and many more

History

Established in 2013.

In August of 2013 Joshua Stump, and Chris Hayzlett launched their cigar shop. The name, Smokers Abbey, comes from the personal philosophy of both owners; to create an environment where friends can gather to, build relationship, engage in conversation, and «Find rest for your soul».

Business Owner

Both Joshua and Chris are ordained ministers, who have been working in non-​denominational church ministry together for over 15 years. The community aspects of cigar smoking, along with the many hours of deep conversation shared over smoking them, led Josh and Chris to open their own cigar lounge, that would be relationship focused, as opposed to the more common sports bar environments, or stuffy cigar lounges. Their shop has been well received in the East Nashville community, and they look forward to becoming a staple of the East Side in the years to come.

Had the good pleasure to meet Chris this week on Thursday with the snow keeping us all from work. Enjoyed the great coffee and friendly environment to work on my laptop and meet some great people from East Nashville, Tennessee.

This is the absolute best tobacconist I’ve ever been to. Brady was working front of house and was very welcoming. The selection of house blended pipe tobaccos and fine brands like Peter Stokkebye are excellent. The humidor is well stocked with boutique brands and excellent staples. I was informed they’ll be expanding their lounge to include around 8 taps in the coming months. Rad place to hang, do some work, and chat with friends and locals.

Excellent place to stop in and have a cigar! a couple of friends and I were passing through the area and wanted a cigar. Found this place on the web, and man, were we impressed. As we walked in, we were immediately confronted with the sweet aroma of cigar smoke, but it was not smoky at all, nor was it difficult to breathe, as it can be in some lounges. The friendly, bearded shopkeeper made an awesome recommendation, and we enjoyed over an hour of leisurely smoking and conversation amid the superb atmosphere. My only gripe is that selection isn’t huge, but it is unique. If you’re in the area, stop by and check it out!

After eating at five stops along my Nashville BBQ tour, I needed to digest and relax for a bit. I found the Smokers Abbey to be the only acceptable cigar lounge in the area. As soon as I walked in, I felt comfortable. The décor is very many with wooden accents, stuffed animals (taxidermy, not baby toys), and comfortable couches and chairs.
When I walked into the humidor, I barely recognized any cigars. Granted, I’m spoiled in NY with Opus, Anejo, VSG, Padron, etc. whenever I want them, but this didn’t look promising. I put my biases aside, and asked the guy working, who I later found out is one of the owners, for help. He explained that they special in boutique cigars and recommended a few cigars based on my preferences. After smoking a Satori by Viaje, I was pleased with his recommendations.
I wiki definitely be back here next time I’m in Nashville. The only thing that prevented them from a five eating is the lack of premium cigars.

Love stopping by on my way through Nashville. Even though their cigar selection is limited (been open for less than a year and wholesalers wait for year 2 to sell more brands), selection is top notch.
They carry some of my favorite blends made by The Crowned Heads (local cigar company). Service is awesome, seating is comfortable and just enough for you and your buddies lookin to chill and relax. They also specialize in selling refurbished pipes.

I will write this review using the exact thoughts floating through my head upon entry: East Nashville cigar shop, ok… expectant haze of smoke as people sit around on couches smoking their purchases… hey look of course there’s a record player and records you can select… TV playing (insert game here) inside HOLY CRAP IS THAT A TAXIDERMIED ANIMAL… oh look a living animal too, someone brought their dog inside (pet friendly dog)…let’s check out the walk-​in humidor, hmm good selection of cigars… decent prices… do I want to stay and smoke? No thanks creepy stuffed animal kind of scares me but wait I like this friendly living dog… sadly limited sitting space… exit shop, remember I’m in East Nashville, head back over the river happily having not spent a lot of money and with delicious cigar in hand.

This is a great laid back smoke shop. Unlike some other places I’ve been no one was snobby and they walked me through their selection with tons of useful information. They have a solid selection of boutique cigars (meaning smaller batch high quality stuff). They’ve got two lounge areas to hang with friends, and a few tables that can serve as a remote desk to get some work done. If you are on the East Side check them out for sure.

I’ve been in this shop twice and both times have received excellent service. They are happy to give helpful suggestions but are not pushy. The atmosphere is nice if you want to hang around to smoke your cigar or pipe. I think they have a big screen tv to view sports games. Their selection is not huge but seems more than adequate. If they had a pool table and were able to serve whiskey or high gravity beer, I would give them a five star.

Grab a glass of scotch and enjoy this spectacular cigar lounge with leather chairs and plenty of classy charm. They have an amazing selection at prices you can’t beat anywhere in town. Plus it’s easy to get to in East Nashville and across the way from Barista Parlor and it’s down the the street from 5 points. They have a tightly secure humidor, nice pipe tobacco and plenty of accessories. Bring your own drinks or grab a coke from the cooler. The décor is killer! I can’t wait to get back here. Cheers

Great selection of affordably priced tobacco products, knowledgable and friendly staff, awesome lounge. I stop in weekly for pipe tobacco and pick up a couple cigars a month. I love this place. If you need a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a fine smoke and a cold brew (BYOB) this is for you. They have a turntable installed so bring your favorite record to spin as well.

I came in last night to the shop just to browse & know what they are offering for the east Nashville crowd. I moved to Chicago from Nashville in 2010 & visit Nashville every 3 months. So I wanted to simply meet the fellow brothers of the leaf & explore their B&M.
Impressions:
1. The gentlemen that walked me to the humidor was super nice. Personal & friendly. Asked questions about my favorite brands & such. Informed me more about the shop & future events.
2. Selection is ok. Your regular CAO, Gurkhas, & Flavored cigars. There are other brands, but nothing that pops out. They are still growing & have only been open for a month or so. So I didn’t expect the selection to be great. It’s fair at the moment & I’m sure it will get better over time as they get approved by cigar companies.
3. This is why the 3 stars review. The humidor is not well sealed to avoid outside smoke. It smelled like a lounge. We were in there for 10 minutes & when we walked out we were drenched in smoke. This should not happen. The inside of a humidor should always smell fresh tobacco. Either both doors are not sealed properly or there is a major leak somewhere.
Conclusion: Great people, ok selection at the moment & need to find a solution to prevent outside smoke from leaking into the humidor space.
