Rodeway Inn National City San Diego South

First time in San Diego so looked for a cheap hotel found this one. Not the worst hotel rooms looked nice they had a mini fridge and microwave which came in use in our trip. Only thing I didn’t like was the people in front had a bad attitude like a «here’s your key leave my sight» over all house keeping was nice.

Petco park. 12 min drive. This hotel was a smaller one when I intially pulled into the parking lot I thought I was gonna have major issues. I was wrong the room was nice and clean. Small fridge, microwave, iron and ironing board. I really enjoyed this hotel. Note, parking lot kinda small for larger vehicles.

Absolutely Horrible! Booking pictures are misleading. Beds are hard as the floor! Room absolutely stunk!!! I booked a non-​smoking room and only option they had when I got there was smoking. Payment was already made online so I had no option but to take what was available. Tub looked dirty! No way I was taking a shower there. Bed spread had holes and stunk. Headboard had hand prints all over it. Door jam was loose. Never again!

It took a few long calls but I was able to get my money back after staying at this god awful place. When I was finally able to talk to the Manager Mike he said ‘I would have refunded your money had you not posted a Unilocal review. That review is bad for my business’ so I had to call the corporate offices, which they made Mike refund my money ASAP. Save yourself the head ache and don’t stay here.

Nobody should ever experience what my husband and I did when we stayed in this flithy dirty hotel. first of all when we first arrived guy at front desk was rude .we should of realized then that this hotel was NOOO good. we got to room only to open and see doors and carpets were super dirty… it only gets worse. comforters were disgusting and stained the bathroom stunk soooo bad curtains were moldy and bathtub was stained and dirty from previous tenants its obvious that they never use any disinfectants at all… I will never recommend this hotel to anybody

The overall is ok, the room is fine and decent even the bed is quite small but soft and comfortable. The only thing I don’t like is the reception as the staff is so unfriendly and stuck on the phone all the time

The room was decent. Bed was decent, TV was ok. The fridge wasn’t too clean. The front desk person didn’t give a lot of into upon check in. I didn’t know what time check out was, (I referred to my cheaptickets email to find out check out info), he didn’t give the password to wifi, or the time of breakfast. He slapped a piece of paper on the counter but didn’t say anything. I assumed I had to fill it out and did and gave it back. Then he handed me my key. He didn’t say anything the whole time except my room number. I got to the room and couldn’t find the wifi password so I decided to call the front desk. Well I picked up the phone receiver that’s in the room, no dial tone and no info on the phone. Turns out the phone had zero cords attached to it. It’s just a useless piece of plastic on a desk. Why have a phone in a room that’s not usable? Whhhhyyyyyy??? Also there is a huge gap under the room door. Anyone could fit their fingers under the door. They need a better threshold. Anyway, this place is ok for a night or two, but go someplace nicer for extended stays.

I stayed here for Comicon this Summer. On a pinch, it’s not a bad place to be. It’s close to the Trolley station and you can take that to downtown San Diego and avoid the nightmare that is having to deal with a car in the downtown SD area.
The guy managing the hotel was nice enough and let me keep the car parked there even as I wasn’t checked in yet.
The room itself was rough. it was supposed to be a smoke-​free room but smelled otherwise. I don’t know if it was recent smoke from previous guests or an ancient irremovable smoke from years before but it was rough to be around. My shirt still stunk from it the next day. The hair dryer didn’t work, not a problem for me, specifically, with my shitty slow balding head. Funniest thing to happen was that the towel rack was bent and the other towel fell right into the toilet. The other person had to dry off with mini towels.
On a plus note, there was a functioning fridge and microwave. It kept the wine I never drank cold for the weekend.
If you’re going to a big thing and everything’s sold out, go for it, otherwise, find a nicer place.

The Rodeway Inn in National City may best be described as a «flea bag» or «dive» but over the past weekend, I came to think of it as my own personal pit of grodiness in the taint between the dung hole of Tijuana and the sack of San Diego.
You will enjoy your stay here if you like:
— Finding other people’s hair in your bathing linens
— Finding cigarette ashes folded into your sleeping linens
— The abiding stench of stale cigarettes
— Finding mounds of crud and litter behind the furniture
— Having every piece of furniture or linen have a tear or hole in it.
— Enjoying a view over an open dumpster
I can’t even say its a good value because they gouged me on the room rate for a special event.
If you find yourself without options and the Rodeway Inn, National City is the only place to stay for a night, remember that there is always the monastery. I mean, if you have to book a room here, your life has already reached a level of disappointment and, most likely, only god can help you now.

B.D. thank you for your reply. I think we have differing definitions on certain words.
For example you say, «Our linens are also clean and comfortable.» See? I don’t know what you mean by «clean.» The linens had human hair and cigarette ashes in them. That really isn’t clean and I surely was not comfortable with that.
In my opinion, you probably meant to say, «Our linens are also used and gag-​inducing.»
You also say, «we clean the hotel rooms thoroughly.» Again, the word «thoroughly» troubles me. If your room-​cleaners were thorough I would not have found grime and food wrappers behind the furniture.
I think you meant to say «we clean the hotel rooms sometimes.»
Finally you say the pricing was «fair» and «budget» but $ 150+ per night is not «budget,» and given how terrible I found the conditions in the hotel to be, I’m going to say that, in my opinion, it wasn’t fair either.
I’m glad to know you are working to fix whatever you can. The good news for you and your business is, there’s nowhere to go but up!

You get what you paid for. If you are looking for a cheap hotel this is the place to go to. The downside of this place is that the area is a bit sketchy.
The house keeping ladies were really nice and sweet. The rooms were clean and NO bed bugs. We had a repair man come in to fix the light of the bathroom and he was friendly and helpful.
Overall it was a decent and tolerable stay. :)

I stayed here a few days and I’m a very fair person, but this place is one of the worse of the motels. Day 1, checked in and the guy gave me a «Non-​smoking» room that smelled like an ash tray! I quickly asked for another room while he kept asking me, «Did you touch anything?» He gave me the room next to the first room and it smelled much better. Not nice, but whatever odor it has was mild. I noticed, throughout the next couple of days, that he still put people in that room. I’m sure they disliked it. I think the first family left too because that night, i think a different couple went in.
day 2, i noticed that they didn’t have «Do Not Disturb» signs so i went to the front and asked him to not disturb my room, he grabed a piece of random paper and wrote it down. That after noon, i noticed a towel from the floor (the one i was using as a bath mat) was MISSING! i quickly called the front and told him to make a note that my room has one less towel now and to not charge me for it. I don’t think he got the hint and i’m pretty sure they’ll want to charge me. He said, «They don’t speak english so they didn’t understand.» I made it clear and very politely asked him to make sure they dont disturb again. I wasn’t mad and i wasnt angry because i understood the house cleaning’s mistake. They probably dont get the «do not disturb» thiing often since the rooms DO NOT have do not disturb signs!
day 3, Um. the water coming out of the sink faucet isn’t clear! it’s yellowish! ugh, i was brushing my teeth with this water and i didn’t notice it b4. i’ll include my picture of my white cup on the white sink with the yellowish water. after running the water for a little bit, it clears up so that probably means it’s the pipes.
Overall, the parking is tight and fills up at night. the doors do have dead bolts, the fridge is barely cold on the bottom half but at least the freezer portion works. there are many cable channels, 50+ and mostly in english. There are no power outlets near the bed + night stands. the bed is litterally as high as the desk! it’s about 3 ft high? the AC works, the bulbs are LEDS (they work well) and there is plenty of lighting. for a motel, it isn’t the worst, but i seriously question the yellow water! Also, the walls, all of them, are thin. I hear people walking from down the hall! i see light shining through the edges of my door at night. there is a small single couch, an office chair and a desk. my opinion’s mixed, but i probably wouldn’t come back. I’m sure i saw a prostitute right in front of the motel too! unless it’s normal for women to walk around in cocktail dresses, alone, at10 pm. This place feels like a run down motel with more modern fixtures. at least they tried! oh yeah, wifi sucks! it constantly disconnects me and tells me i need to sign in! dont expect wifi here! they have it, but it may not work.

My boyfriend and I have stayed here 3 times now and never again. The first time was okay, but the second and third times we started having problems. The last time is what really pushed us both over the edge…
We are basically homeless and have been living in hotels for several months now due to the poor job market. The last time we stayed here a relative helped us out by purchasing a room for us over the phone using their credit card. We were shocked to hear they paid $ 99.99 + tax for one night, because we had stayed there just two nights prior for a rate of $ 49.75 + tax per night. So, this hotel over doubled their price for the weekend. Let me remind you this is the Rodeway Inn in National City not the Ritz Carlton in Paris, France and the majority of their clientele appear to be prostitutes or drug addicts. Then, I tried to use my AAA card and Choice Hotels Rewards card to get a small discount or at least points toward a free hotel stay and was told that was not possible. On top of all this the jerk at the front desk asked if we were going to have a problem and if so we would need to leave! I calmly stated that my boyfriend and I did not have a problem, but we did not like being taken advantage of. We got our room key and stayed in the room the rest of the night.
The TV during our second stay had a connection problem which I called about and was never fixed to my knowledge. During our last stay the TV worked fine, but only received a few channels (less than in the other room). The freezer, although the best we’ve come across overall, had a crack on the top seal which prevented it from doing it’s job and my ice cream melted completely in a matter of hours. The mirrors had scratched graffiti and there was clearly a framed picture missing. Found a pubic hair in the bed. Plastic wrap covering the lamp shade. And finally the toilet paper and shampoo had not been replaced (clearly left over from previous occupant).
The only upside I can find is we were not charged a deposit fee and there is free parking. Overall, bad experience and rude service! You can find much nicer, cleaner hotels for the same price nearby.

When was the last time you were actually at this hotel for more than a hour? Also, pictures don’t lie. I also don’t believe several other reviewers would lie about the same issues. Look at all the review similarities and stars, pictures I and other patrons have posted, and actually stay in room 248, then insinuate I’m fabricating this information. I don’t have a problem with the prostitutes, as they were much kinder than your staff. Plus, when we mentioned to the front desk clerk that there was a person loitering in the parking lot taking pictures of cars license plates and harassing customers, all the clerk did was step outside and ask the man if he was taking pictures… the obviously drugged out man lied and said no, then the front desk clerk just threw up his hands and went back inside. So, I find it funny when you claim there is a zero tolerance rule that is strictly enforced. In my opinion, the only hope for this hotel to stay in business is a complete change in staff and management!

pretty terrible, cigarette burn marks on bed, stained toilet, spotted ‘hidden-​uv’ juices everywhere. i think i have to see a doctor

There is not one good thing I could say about this place so let me tell you all the bad about it.
Have you see the movie Vacancy where the couple gets stranded and is forced to stay at the motel nearby overnight? Well I think if this was the motel they ran into they’d just keep on walking.
There was a large dumpster near the rooms which smelled god awful. It’s a dumpster how should it smell, but it needs to be away from the rooms.
The rooms to me are only used for one thing: truckers to bring hookers back to. Oh, I thought of another, for drug dealers to make runs to/​from. Parts of the door were broken off. The room smelled like bleach. I don’t mean clean, I mean like bleach thrown in a toilet bowl to say it’s clean. I personally bought cleaning supplies to clean the room so I knew it was sanitary.
There were about 15 – 20 Mac trucks lined out across the road. Again– hooker heaven.
As soon as the sun dimmed I locked up and hid for the night. I noticed the police patrolling the area only making me realize what a horrible area I was staying in.
Do not, do not, do not stay here.

This is the second Rodeway Inn I’ve stayed at, and I’m still pretty pleased with their service. Nice, clean room. The walls around the bathroom are pretty thin (you can hear the person in there taking a duece). The water pressure from the shower isn’t that great, and the «complimentary» breakfast is a sad excuse for a breakfast. In any case, for a place just to sleep, it’s a nice place to stay at.

Spent the night there due to a conference in the area, the area around the place is a real hole but the person at the front desk was really nice and friendly, only thing that was wrong with the room was the shower which when turned on came out in a solid stream like a high pressure hose which was kinda funny actually because the water went everywhere, good thing I didn’t have to mop the floor afterward, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay with clean small (I mean small) rooms then look no further

We came into town during a convention weekend and were looking for an affordable place to stay, and we found this place (well under $ 100).
The room was a non-​smoking room (though it didn’t smell like it), and was perfectly fine for our one night stay. Everything worked fine and all was clean.
We did find it rather humorous that all three photos in the room were of the same exact picture. We’re not sure if this is the case in every room, but we speculate that it might be the photo that came with the frame.
They do offer free coffee and donuts in the morning, which we unfortunately missed out on because we slept too late.
