FirstLight HomeCare provides quality, affordable, non-​medical in-​home care for seniors, mothers just home from the hospital, those recovering from surgery and other clients with a need for companionship or personal care. We can serve your loved ones for several hours a week up to ²⁴⁄₇ and live-​in situations. FirstLight HomeCare is staffed by people who understand the challenges families face when caring for loved ones across town, or across the country. Every FirstLight HomeCare caregiver is a direct employee (not a contractor), thoroughly screened and background checked, and must pass through our rigorous care training, including complete training in client health data and privacy issues as well as dementia care. Whether providing conversation, light housekeeping and meal preparation, or assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing and hygiene, FirstLight HomeCare is the confident choice for in-​home care.

History

Established in 2015.

FirstLight HomeCare has over 120 offices across the country, including an office in Salem, MA which serves the North Shore communities. The West Suburban Boston office is owned by a father and son team, Needham natives, Michael and Steve Stern.

The office serves residents throughout the west suburban Boston communities, which includes Needham, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline, Medfield, Dover, Westwood, Dedham, Weston, Wayland, Lincoln, Concord and Bedford.

After a successful marketing and management career in the Washington D.C. area, Steve wanted to return home to the Boston area in a role that would allow him to serve the community that provided so much to him and his family.

Opening FirstLight HomeCare allows Steve to give back to the community, to seniors and others in his hometown and surrounding area by offering an important service. Allowing people to remain independent can have a significant impact on their quality of life.

Business Owner

Steve manages FirstLight HomeCare of West Suburban Boston and leads the community relations and business development efforts.

Prior to opening FirstLight HomeCare of West Suburban Boston, Steve served in a number of management positions at marketing services organizations, where he developed programs and campaigns to promote a range of consumer brands and business services – from telecommunications and public transportation to accounting services and healthcare. Steve was born and raised in Needham and graduated from Tufts University with a B.A. in Economics. He also holds an MBA with a concentration in marketing from the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business.

Steve is married to Amy, a public health care quality advisor who helps physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals establish health care systems in developing nations. Steve and Amy are the parents of twin boys who are seniors in high school.
