The Chelan Condominiums

We rented unit 9, which was a one bedroom unit. The minute we walked through the door it smelled musty and like cigarette smoke. The bathroom was horrible. The sink faucet was loose, there were holes in the vinyl floor, mold outside and inside the shower. Neither my husband nor I used the shower because it was so awful. The bedroom smelled badly but if you left the window open all of the time it wasn’t horrible. The living room area was pretty nice. The kitchen was okay but needed updating. The blinds were very hard to open, the ceiling was the old tiles used in the ‘60s. The view was the saving grace. It was beautiful but when we sat outside people in the unit above us were constantly walking back and forth in front of where we were sitting as they headed to the beach.

Not many reviews for this place, but it needs one. We planned a quiet week away. Things started out badly when we arrived at 5, discovered this was not the condo we rented, and we went back to the front desk to talk about it. They were closed but the seemingly very nice woman there was out walking her dog. She was VERY irritated at having to go back in and «turn everything on.» Her answer was that it was correct and they were full. We specifically had rented another one with a private deck. This one – you can shake hands with your neighbors on their deck, and they also decided to have a party tonight.
The toilet is leaking. The microwave doesn’t work. The bed is hard as a rock – okay if you like that I guess. They have something on the bathroom and shower floors that is slick, like oil. I almost fell in the shower. They are very old remodeled condos – like 40s old. No laundry. We complained about some of these things and we got the same «too bad, so sad» attitude.
You certainly can’t beat the oceanfront view, though.

The Chelan is an older set of condominiums and many of the units lack the modern luxury touches. But they are comfortable and the location/​view cannot be beat. You are steps away from a set of steps leading down to the beach. Just sitting outside your unit, coffee or wine in hand, enjoying the morning haze or the evening sunset, to the sound of crashing surf… just cannot be beat. You have a fantastic view of the entire length of Neskowin beach.
The Chelan is also easy walking distance to the Neskowing store and the Hawk Creek Café for your morning coffee and casual dining needs!
I had unit 5, which is a first level unit with two bedrooms. Very cozy with a nice fireplace. They provide fire logs! The appliances were all up to date and allowed for in-​house cooking when not inclined to go out. The cable TV worked well, with a full range of channels and the wifi was very strong and surprisingly fast!
Only downside to the lower level units is that people from other units do walk by on their way to the beach, so you have to be conscious of people looking into the front living area or, if you leave the beach-​side door open, the occasional dog or child wandering in.
Notwithstanding that, the Chelan provides very good value and I would not hesitate to stay there again… though I might try to get an upper unit if they were available! :-)

I had a lovely stay at the Chelan for my birthday weekend in early November. We were right on the ocean and the big window in the living room made the tv seem unnecessary. There was great hiking nearby and the beach to stroll along as well. The condo is cozy and comfy with two bedrooms and a stocked kitchen. There was a Duralog for the fireplace for each night which was a nice touch. Clare was very responsive to my emails while I was planning the trip, so even though I didn’t meet her in person, I felt very comfortable making the trip down from Seattle. It took about 6 hours on the way there with a stop in Portland for dinner and on the way back we took the scenic route along the coast which I’d recommend. All in all a fantastic weekend!
