History

Established in 2006.

Founded by Katie McCamant and Jim Leach in 2006, CoHousing Partners was born out of a decade-​long collaboration between Wonderland Hill Development Company and McCamant & Durrett Architects. Katie is the coauthor of the book that introduced cohousing to North America, Cohousing: A Contemporary Approach to Housing Ourselves (1988). Since then, she and her partner, Charles Durrett, have helped to create more than 50 cohousing communities domestically and internationally. Jim Leach, founder of Wonderland Hill Development Company in Boulder, Colorado, was the first professional developer to partner with a cohousing group (Nyland Community, 1993) in North America. His work pioneered a new model for collaborative development.

Business Owner

Katie leads the CoHousing Partners team. She brings the depth and diversity of her experience as an architect, developer, and cohousing resident to her clients.

A licensed architect and coauthor of the of the book on cohousing, Cohousing: A Contemporary Approach to Housing Ourselves, Katie co-​founded McCamant & Durrett Architects and The CoHousing Company with her husband, Charles Durrett, in 1987. Since then, Katie has designed and developed dozens of cohousing communities in the United States and Canada. For the past decade, Katie has focused on the development side of cohousing projects. During this time, she has worked on all aspects of developing cohousing from project kick-​off to move-​in. Her expertise includes setting up project budgets, structure financing, and facilitating planning approvals, contractor selection, construction management, marketing efforts, and community policy creation.
