I know this is a local favorite and I am a local, but honestly I wasn’t impressed. I’ve dined at many sushi bars and there is nothing I won’t try. So why the three stars. Pros: Shooters were amazing. Those get five stars. Waitresses were professional and nice. Fish was fresh and I like they are a responsible sushi restaurant and don’t buy fish that are over fished. I liked one of the rolls we got that had a lovely dark citrus sauce with it. Cons: our reservation was at 8:30, we didn’t get our first roll brought to us until 9:45(we ordered six for a table of four). We did get one round of shooters brought before that. Our next dish was 4 pieces of nigiri brought at 10:20. And we didn’t get our final rolls until 11:00pm. the restaurant closes at 9… I found the rolls to be incredibly salty, especially the unagi which is one of my favorite things. Yes fish is salty, but this was beyond that, it was like pouring salt in my mouth. i was only able to choke down one/two pieces. For the price of this place and the extremely long wait to get food. I won’t be returning. It’s a shame, I was so excited to try this place.

The best ever sushi. Come here for great flavors and fresh fish. I live in the bay area and I would make the trip for sushi with unique flavors and the wonderful creativeness of Ru. Make a reservation since it is small but extremely mighty.

Best sushi I’ve ever had, one of our favorite places to go for date night! Has a warm atmosphere, the owners and waitresses are always so nice. There’s always a wait list so plan ahead it’s well worth the wait!

Favorite sushi place in California. Always booked but they save the front for walk ins, line for that too. But really authentic sushi, quality fish. Super people.

Food was incredible, but you can’t serve incredible food with 50 minute time for shooters.

Absolutely delicious and fresh. My hubby loves it and he’s very picky. Great ambience, friendly owners and awesome sauces. Pricey but worth it!

If you’re looking for an ‘all you can eat’ menu, leave. Make a reservation, plan ahead, don’t be cheap, and enjoy yourself. You’re in for a treat whether you choose a table or the small but very worth it, sushi bar. 1. Sushi should never be ayce, buffets are for assholes. 2. The quality of fish and attention to detail is really beautiful. 3. In NC and GV we are extremely limited on truly great food. This IS the needle in the haystack. Thank you Sushi in the Raw.

Without a doubt the best sushi restaurant I have ever eaten at. The sushi is excellent with a large variety and they have an excellent saki list. The restaurant is small so you will need to make reservations at least a week in advance, but it is well worth it They don’t have maguro(tuna) for reasons they enumerate in the menu but the selection is so great you’ll hardly miss it. A wonderful dining experience.

San Francisco resident with in-laws that live in Nevada City. My wife and I have been here twice and we are very impressed with the quality of fish, especially for the money. The same restaurant would cost you at least 25% more in SF. On par with our favorite SF sushi place, Okoze. Wait staff and chefs really take sushi seriously and also have creative pieces and combinations(truffle oil and fish anyone)? As expected from any great sushi place, on Saturday night they regularly run out of certain fish as they are closed on Sunday and Monday.

Yes! The food here is amazing. So fresh and full of flavor. It is the best sushi we have ever had. Since this was our first visit, we mostly stuck with items suggested by other reviewers and we weren’t disappointed. The Susan Roll and the white truffle oil sashimi are awesome. We also had the yellow tail Japanese ceviche and the sake sashimi. So good! Other reviewers mentioned slow service. That was not the case at all for us. The servers were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Each dish was served in a perfect amount of time after the previous dish. You have to plan ahead and make reservations. We made reservations for a Saturday evening almost three weeks in advance and even with that much notice, our time choices were 5:30 or 8:00. I don’t know how far in advance you have to call to get a preferred 6:30 reservation. The place is small. There are five tables that seat four, a front sushi bar that(I think) seats four, and the back sushi bar, where you can watch the chef at work, that seats four. Plan ahead. Make a reservation. Be happy.

This review is for sitting at the bar in back. The owners engage with you as much as you like, will drink the sake you offer, and in return offer delicious items they feel you may enjoy. A sushi bar experience par excellence. The selection of fish is limited to only what is fresh and in season. The quality is top notch. Try the shooters.

Went last night… yum yum… the sushi was just amazing! Very attentive! Down side… getting reservations takes weeks. Only about 5 tables. But if you’re in your well cared for and the flavors are amazing! Not a full bar… but the Sapporo light and Saki was great! We have several salads… my fav… the octopus the Susan? Sushi roll… was worth it… yum yum yum… if you want to get into the sushi bar same day… you have to put your name on the list at 5 or 5:30…and hope! Good news… it looks like they are taking over the space next door and are working on an expansion! That is great news!!!

Came here last night for my birthday dinner– I had a GREAT time!!! Just wanted to post on here because there were a few things that might keep us from coming back In the future. We spent over 600 dollars here and they wouldn’t bring us enough ginger, no matter how many times we asked. They brought out two or three plates of ginger and there were 7 of us. We asked if we could each have our own ginger and they kind put up a fuss and told us they would have to charge us for it. The waiter/waitress were not very communicative with us and brought things out really slowly. When we asked if things were still coming out, they were kind of rude, explaining that they bring things out staggered. Totally understandable, but it would have been nice if they had said that in the beginning and maybe periodically updated us about what was still coming out and how long it was going to take. Then there were the sake cups. We ordered hot sake and 10 shooters and they brought out 3 sake cups. There were 7 of us. We asked for more sake cups and then they said they had to card us. Totally fine, but why did they do that after we had all already had shooters? We then had to ask them 3 separate times for the sake cups. It was my 31st birthday by the way. The waitress and waiter were both rude. Nothing was explained or accommodated in a pleasant way. It was my birthday and we had a great time even though the service was pretty bad. Great food, horrible service. Get the quail egg shooters and trout shooters if you do decide to go. Oh one last thing. Even though the waiter was rude, he was able to fill up our water and pick up our dropped chopsticks super fast. Props to you chopstick ninja!

I took my girlfriend to this pretentious shit box for her birthday and she broke up with me that night! Well, not really. First, we get there 15 minutes early and ask if our table is ready. «No, it will be ready in 15 minutes,» replied waiter con pedo. «Why don’t you guys wait outside till it is ready» The place was dead, we were looking at the empty table we were about to sit in, and it was raining outside. Second, they were out of tuna. What kind of sushi place would be out of tuna. Third it took 45 min to get the one item we ordered, which was sashimi trio. It was ok, but small portions and expensive. I was so pissed, I payed for the one item and took my girl to the Willow.
