Carne Asada Fries! These things are amazing! Plus they give you a ton! California burrito is also a must. Fresh tamales on the weekends only! Can’t recommend this place enough.

Omg I die. They have carne asada fries! Being from CA, no restaurant out here knows wth it is and it makes me happy that this place does! I just left there for lunch and they have a pretty large serving of it. It comes with steak style fries, carne asada, sour cream, onions, cilantro, avocado and I believe a jalapeño? Or green pepper? I bit into something that was spicy – I usually hate super spicy stuff but it was totally worth it. Came out to around $ 9 something which isn’t bad considering the portion size. Thank you so much for fulfilling my craving. Gotta try the CA burrito next time. Nom. —— Update: Currently mouth breathing because I’m so full. Couldn’t even finish half of my California Burrito! I made mine w no rice and beans because I’m a pain in the ass like that but they were nice enough to make it anyway… Yassssssss!

Being a new resident to the wonderful city of New Bern one of the first things I had to do was to peep the local food scene. I already sampled some of the regional favorites down the street at Moore ’ s BBQ and I was not down with it! However this spot was a welcome suprise. Being a Californian I have high Mexican food standards so I was expecting this place to be perpetrating. I got pimp slapped back into reality once I got my California Burrito in hand! The burrito is massive, and all the ingredients are quality. This place could hold its own in San Diego!

I think the food here is some of the best tasting Mexican food you will find. The burritos will fill you up and they don’t cost you very much.

Absolutely delicious Tacos, Quesadillas, Tortas, you name it! Their burritos are the size of a small child. Outstanding food, for a decent price… and AUTHENITCMEXICAN!

This is a very small place where you can have nearly authentic Mexican tacos. I’m Mexican and I come here every time I’m craving for real tacos, they are the closest to it that you can have around. Not the place to have a nice sitting down lunch/dinner but the place for a quick and tasty meal. They do special dishes on weekends like Pozole.

This place is awesome. I’m from Southern California and Mexican food is what I grew up on. Quality Mexican food is usually in short supply down here, but this place kills it! They also make their own horchata that is to die for! I highly recommend their California burrito as well. What a great taste of home.

San Diego native here and am used to getting real authentic Mexican food. Not the California burrito Mexican food but the lengua tacos, albondigas and menudo. Unilocaled a great lunch spot and ended up at El Taco Loco. Was greeting by a man who assured me this was authentic family owned solid cuisine. He was not lying, this food rocked. Authentic meat seasoned well, fresh tortillas and the salsa was HOT just the way I like it. Absolutely would recommend anyone that is looking for great food to hit this place up. I wont even bother trying something else for Mexican food, this place has me hooked.

Looks like a hole in the wall place on the outside, but we decided to try it because the reviews on here were so great. They were definitely right! Authentic Mexican food, great flavors, and the customer service awesome too. The cashier was very welcoming, asked us where we were from, and was happy to bring more sauce, drinks, and boxes because the portions were HUGE. If you’re in the area, give the place a chance!

Yep got this one right. Great tacos and huge burritos. Slow cook pork burrito was delicious. Fresh ingredients and friendly staff. I’m a big eater and had to take home half.

Delicious food! My mom grew up in Mexico, and this is the one place in New Bern that she says has actual authentic Mexican food. The serving sizes are generous, and for the amount of food you get the prices are amazing. I took a friend here for lunch a week ago and she was thrilled to find out that it existed. She kept praising the food and the service. My recommendation? Almost anything there.

Seriously good tacos. I just relocated to the New Bern area after getting a job here and spending several weeks in Dallas for training. I had seen the rave reviews on Unilocal for El Taco Loco, and I honestly didn’t think it could compare to the Mexican food in the border states. I was absolutely wrong. This place is fantastic. The Barbacoa taco is among the best i’ve ever had, the Quesadilla was huge and delicious, the sauces were perfectly spicy and flavorful, and they have authentic glass-bottle Mexican Coke. I am excited to have this place so close, and i’m glad that I discovered it shortly after relocating.

Best burrito I’ve had since leaving Texas. My buddy recommended the chicken, but I decides on barbacoa. This burrito is BIG. Like the size of small child. And every ingredient is cooked to maximum flavor. Several of the other customers I talked to had driven great distances to visit this little burrito joint hidden in a tiny shopping center. You should too!

This place is right around the corner from my house, and I honestly wasn’t expecting much. Why would a small town in North Carolina have awesome Mexican food? Well it turns out that I couldn’t have been more wrong. This place serves incredibly delicious and authentic Mexican food. I had the Carne Azada burrito, which comes in around 7 dollars. The steak is grilled to a super tender and juicy perfection. Top it off with some rice and beans and you have an excellent burrito that is simple and fresh. The tacos are even more stripped down, featuring steak, onions and cilantro. Top it off with one of their two homemade sauces and you’ve got a recipe for mouthwatering Mexican perfection. On top of the good food and great prices, the staff is super friendly and are always up for a conversation. If you’re having trouble deciding, they are quick to offer a suggestion based on your tastes and before you know it you’re out the door with some fresh tacs. Simple. Fresh. Local. El Taco Loco does it right.

After walking in with high hopes, I left with a stomach full of delicious California burrito. Best Mexican food I’ve found in NC. For those of you from San Diego you know that there are different California burrito«styles»(my favorite/gold standard is from Santana’s, just so you know where I’m coming from). Right up there with my favorites is from JV’s…and this one is close, but with a Sombrero’s feel to it. The size, though… HUGEBURRITO! In my heyday I could throw down a couple Santana’s in a sitting without a problem… this one pushed me to my limits and I had to quit. Great tasting carne aside and pico de gallo; lots of melted cheese, tons of refried beans and Mexican rice. The tortilla was on point, and the chunks of avocado were a welcomed surprise! The next time I’ll see if I can’t add some sour cream. For a «corner taco shop», this place is money. Absolutely worth your time if you’re hungry and need some solid food. I’m reserving the fifth star for now, pending my return and hopeful repeat of deliciousness. THE best Mexican I’ve had here, but now it’s being compared to the greats I remember from SoCal. :)

I went here to pick up a quick meal for lunch and easily decided on the Carne Asada burrito… although they called it an «Azada“burrito. No issues, I knew exactly what they meant. At $ 6.99 this was a pretty normal price for a burrito but I have to say this burrito was absolutely massive. It must have weighed at least a pound or two. It was crazy. The burrito was jammed packed with carne asada, beans, rice and cheese. The carne asada was perfectly seasoned, cooked and had no fat whatsoever, which is sometimes hard to find in a carne asada burrito. After seeing the rest of their menu, which included chorizo tacos and pastor burritos, I will most definitely be back sooner rather than later. Such a great find in New Bern!

I moved here from California, and the«Mexican food» I was able to find in this area was so bland, comparable to Taco Bell. Most places here are just some sort of combination of stale tortillas, ground beef and nacho cheese. This is not that kind of place. A friend recommended this place to me and it was just like back in California. Fresh tortillas, good meat, and delicious spicy salsa to top it all off. They have a little self serve bar with marinated jalapeño/onion/carrots, limes and radishes, which I hadn’t seen in this area till now. It’s basic food in a simple, no frills atmosphere. But don’t let the little hole in the wall setting put you off-this food is GOOD. It’s cheap, too! I absolutely plan on coming here again.
