Small bookstore of new and used books. Has a rather limited variety. Nice walking distance and fun to walk around. Not much in the way of sitting and enjoying books like you’d think for a downtown book place.

I love a good used book store & this place was right up my alley! The lady working on a Saturday afternoon was super nice & I found a book for myself(hardcover), one for my husband(an $ 18 paperback), & a paperback for my 8 year(from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series), all in great condition for less than $ 20 total. This will be a regular stop on our annual visits to New Bern!

The Next Chapter is an adorable little bookstore. On an exploratory trip around New Bern, I came across it by chance. It stood out with its brick façade next to a much taller, white building. Once inside, I noticed the bright, open layout that comes from having one wall of windows. There’s a small room in front housing books of local authors. I found myself spending the most time here and got a pretty good feel for the closeness of this community. The middle of the store is hard cover books alphabetically by author and the back room has paperbacks. Under the windows are the children’s books. It isn’t hard to find your way around and there’s enough of nearly every type of genre to match any preference. It’s a little more expensive than other used bookstores, but the prices are still a bargain compared to new and you can’t beat the atmosphere.
