Speakeasy style cocktail bar in New Brunswick, NJ. Closest thing I can can to a cocktail bar in NYC. Great cocktails. I love the ambiance with the aquarium behind the bar. The dining room in the back is a little uppity. I’ve only eaten there once. It was good so I would go again, however you need to make reservations. Space is limited.

I’ve come to Clydz quite a few times in visiting the New Brunswick area. I can say the service is OK and the cost of the drinks is definitely too expensive. For the price of a couple of cocktails I could have my own birthday party. They are trying to give New Brunswick a taste of New York, but with the prices they ask for cocktails, I don’t think I would come back.

My card was charged for $ 11 and I left an additional cash tip. Three days later when the charges were finalized by my bank I was charged $ 22. Sorry the cash tip I left wasn’t enough and you had to treat yourself to another $ 11. I called the manager said she’d call me back and she did… But at that point I didn’t care about it anymore because I wont be coming back.
They do however make amazing martinis.

Nice little pub with small dining area. Stylish bar food, kind of gastropub, although nothing terribly fancy. They specialize in game but have a good variety.

It hole-​in-​the-​wall gem in New Brunswick, Clydz brings back many college memories. It has a speakeasy-​type vibe, with its dim lighting and vested, bearded manly bartenders. Happy hour is a must, with half-​priced ($ 5) martinis and bar food. The drinks are absolutely delicious, and the bartenders will give you the entire mini shaker so you will be able to enjoy at least 2 martini glasses of your drink!
The food is equally impeccable [for New Brunswick]. My old go-​to was the Seared Diver Scallops, cooked with creamy mushroom Pappardella Pasta. Now I believe it comes with risotto. but I would still ask for the parpardella. A great spot to take that someone special out on a date!

I should start by saying if this was a review of just the bar/​drinks, it would be 5 stars. I’ve been to Clydz more than once for martini’s and have always been impressed. However, last night I had dinner there for the first time and was really disappointed. I had the duck breast and my boyfriend had the venison. The duck was bland, and the skin was very mushy. My boyfriend had the venison and the only thing we could taste was the smoke. Considering that having «different» meats is their «thing,» we were especially disappointed. We recently moved to New Brunswick and will be back for the drinks, but not again for dinner.

Great happy hour place! The martinis are just about half off. Each martini is basically two drinks! Plus, they make the drinks nice and strong.
I even enjoy coming to Clyde after dinner for one or two martinis.
It is definitely a small bar and can get quite packed. Thankfully, not many college kids come to Clydz which is a bonus.
I recommend eating here. They have very exotic food options so it is fun trying new things!
Lychee martini is my favorite!

The best place to go for drinks and apps, or a classy dinner in New Brunswick.

This is my favorite bar EVER. When I think about treating myself, this is the first place I think of. The drinks are AMAZING. They satisfy every kind of craving you have, whether you want something chocolatey, fruity, sweet, bitter… You name it, they have it all. My favorites are nuts and berries, cocaine lady, and nutty alexander. Other people I’ve gone with have gotten the victoria’s secret and apple pie martinis which are also great. It can be hard to order a drink because the small bar is always packed during happy hour. The food is also pretty good from what I remember — I’ve only gotten a few things off the happy hour menu. One time when I went for my birthday, my friend got me a beautiful dessert platter. I don’t think it was on the menu, but it was fabulous. It had truffles, mousse, and some other chocolate stuff. It was absolutely delicious for my dessert loving self. Anyway, definitely go for happy hour, otherwise the drinks are very expensive.

I’ve been coming here for years. The only reason why I gave this wonderful place for stars is because they need more space for the bar and they got rid of their original martini halt hour special.
If you are an adventurous diner, I would definitely suggest this restaurant. The drinks are expertly crafted. The food is wide in variety… and fresh! My fiancée and I are drinkers so we love the assortment of whiskeys, mezcals, and the list goes on…
Definitely a place to visit if you are new in town and/​or want to try something new.
College students don’t venture in too often and this keeps the atmosphere nice and chill.
Dinner could be expensive if you are interested. I would save that for special occasions.

The pierogis and beef skewers were really good, and I kept eating the dipping sauces even when the meal was done. You could probably make a meal out of 3 appetizers, because they are pretty small.

Wow! What a cool place to be in New Brunswick for happy hour martinis! I ordered a Lychee Martini and shared a fried calamari with my girls to start off our night out. It was pretty packed for a Friday but we were able to get a table and was served quite nicely. There’s so many martinis to try and I can’t wait to come back to try the rest! Each of us ordered a slightly different drink; ones with ice cream is so smooth and another with champagne and Riesling was very easy to drink (Don’t Have Too Many of These, I think it was called, appropriate!)

I really like Clyde’s in New Brunswick NJ. They make excellent drinks, and probably the best «Manhattan» in central NJ (they maybe the best in Northern NJ too)!
They also make really good lime caipirinhas for a non-​Brazilian or Portuguese bar. I also had a great tasting Devil Egg appetizer! Really delicious, and perfect for a lighter snack with cocktails!

My co-​worker took me here after weeks of begging me to come. I finally gave in since we were working nearby. Parking is typically hard in down town New Brunswick so I was not positive we would find decent parking on a Friday afternoon. Luckily there is a small deck right next to the bar that is 2 dollars an hour. Score! Just be warned there isn’t much parking because the deck seems to be under construction right now.
The place is located down a set of stairs. I love places like this since you never really see bars on basement levels anymore. I think this is way cool. Upon entering you walk into the bar area. We ate lunch here so we were seated in the room parallel from the bar that has a set of 4 booths. In the back there is a finer dining section that is only open during dinner. It is a dark place but a trendy one at that. There are fish tanks that have liquor bottles in them that are very entertaining to watch. I get the feeling I am in an old speak easy when I dine here.
The food is unique in that it is mostly game foods. Most places do not know how to properly cook game foods but this place has it down. We ordered the game nachos as an appetizer and they were amazing. You get large portions as well so you get a huge amount for the price. We killed the nachos and left very little room for dinner. My co-​worker got the special burger and I got the boar belly gyro. It was delicious! I also ordered a bloody martini. It was delicious and they leave the shaker behind which provides another drink. 2 martinis in 1? Not bad! Overall we spent about 70 dollars for the 2 of us with tip. Well worth the food and service. I will be coming back. Great place for a date or a group of friends looking to try something different.

Was in the area for a Rutgers tailgate and was torn between whether to go here or the Frog and the Peach for dinner. Clydz seemed a little less formal, but the cocktail menu here sold me. Very extensive. I only wish we had gone during the happy hour to get them at $ 7.50
Semi-​stuffed from the tailgate, we skipped the apps and headed straight for the entrees, but not before making a pit stop at the drink menu. I went with the Hub City Press (Basil Hayden’s, Averna, maraschino, lemon, sugar, orange bitters) — $ 12. Delicious and super refreshing. Unlike my buddy Rich P., I don’t get annoyed by the giant single ice cube in my cocktails, though this one wasn’t circular, which really annoys him. It was cubed.
For mains, we got the «Denver leg» (venison special with purple potatoes and brussel sprouts) — $ 29, which came with an overly simple house salad; and the scallops with leek, fennel and wild mushroom risotto with a citrus green peppercorn nage. I went with the small portion ($ 22) so I could get a side of the very rich, but tasty mac and bleu cheese ($ 8). Everything was great, except the salad, scallops and some parts of the venison that were rare after we ordered it medium-​rare based on the server’s recommendation. The risotto was cooked perfectly and had the right texture, but the scallops themselves were borderline sour, leaving me with a bad aftertaste.
Overall, the service was friendly and prompt, and the complimentary bread was fresh, but I can’t overlook the scallops. Just to make sure I wasn’t going crazy, I ate two there and took the third home to eat the next day to see if something else I had eaten or drunk earlier on the same day caused a flavor clash. No dice. That was not the case. I would definitely go back here for happy hour though.
Separately, parking sucks. Paid lots only, or on the street if you can be lucky enough to find a spot.

I had always heard about Clydz and how they had incredible Martinis and an interesting array of menu items. Sad to say that even though I am a RU alumni, I never ate here during my days as a student — but I blame that on the fact that I was a commuter so never really hung around campus.
My fiancé and I had dinner here one evening. We were asked if we wanted to eat at the bar or a table and we chose a table in the dining room. The crowd was a mix — business dressed professionals, really casually dresses people, and really dressy people.
We started off with the Alligator Sausage (which was recommended by our waiter — he said it was his favorite of the apps). I really enjoyed it. The sausage had a delicious cajun flavor and it had a nice snap to it and the croissant-​type dough around it was so flaky and delicious. I ordered the the Duck Breast, which came with Sweet Mash Pot and my fiancé had the Strip Steak. Both were extremely delicious and cooked exactly how we wanted. It was a delicious meal! We also had a Cruzan for a Brusin and Lychee Martini during our meals which were great!
Looking fwd to the next time we eat here again!

my colleagues and I have been to clydz a few times for dinner and drinks, and each time it was enjoyable with great menu selections. they use a lot of interesting proteins and combinations, and feature different specials each night. I also enjoy the cocktail list with a full range from sweet to savory to spicy.
one of my favorite appetizers is the king salmon and marinated shrimps, which comes with little crispy wafers, smoked salmon, and diced shrimp. the grilled octopus was really flavorful and came with a nice frisee salad, and the deviled eggs had a light, creamy and savory filling. while the flat bread is a great starting dish, it doesn’t play up the duck as much as I would expect; similarly the game meatballs tasted more like regular beef meatballs in tomato sauce.
there is also a great selection of entrees, and many come at both half and full portions. the diver scallops were large, cooked very well, and came with a very nice light sauce. the quail is an impressive dish with a lot of flavor, although it is a pretty big portion.

Called and was able to make reservations within a hour. Glad I did make reservations because soon after we arrived everyone started pouring in. Scored the last booth! #win
Service was immediate. We had Joe!!! He was personable, attentive, and charismatic. He even maintained a positive while dealing with a couple that complained about EVERYTHING! and I mean EVERYTHING! about where they sat, about the size of their meat, about how much lettuce they had in their salad, the wine!!! Yet eat, devoured everything that came to the table. Joe still maintained a professional demeanor while still taking care of all his tables.
Clyde can be pricey when you do app, Neal, dessert, drinks… But hey you get what you pay for.
I had the chocolate dessert, can’t remember the name but definitely was chocolate wasted a after consuming every piece on the plate.
I love Clydz for their drink selection.
There’s many to choose from and there’s something for everyone.
Will be returning.

If you want to go to this little rustic bar, I will strongly suggest to come her during HAPPY HOUR. Happy hour, cocktails are half price from $ 14 to $ 7 and the appetizers are $ 6. Other than that little tidbit of information, I would said this place is great to just get away from the usual bar scenes in New Brunswick or to have a more intimate atmosphere. There are a booths behind the bar and stools and wall aisles in the front and a dining area way in the back; it is your pick. However, if you are going just to drink I will highly recommend that you get here around 4, because Clydz gets packed real quick.
There are multiple cocktails to your choosing, personally I enjoy the Decadence, the Nutty Alexander and the Holiday Inn. However if you ever want to leave the happy hour cocktails, then I strongly pick the Moscow Mule it was a ginger taste that just rejuvenates me from a long days work. Beside the drinks, there appetizers are not bad either when I go with my co-​workers and friends, we usually order the calamari or the dip.

I have such a big soft spot for Clydz. I remember dressing up to go there when I was a lowly undergrad at Rutgers. For the price of two drinks, I could put gas in my car for a week, but it was worth it. The immense list of martinis kept me coming back — I just *had* to try them all!
When it came time to find a place to hang out after my wedding, Clydz was at the top of our list. The place is a little harder to find (especially when you’re already a little buzzed) since it’s not on Easton Ave with the rest of the bars. Be warned — it gets crowded. This was true a bazillion years ago when I was young, and it’s still true now. They have tasty little bites you can enjoy with your drinks, and a cocktail menu to die for. What more could you want?
