Sheraton Wilmington South Hotel

The hotel is clean. But two star only because during our stay the hotel closed off the lobby for a wedding. This seems to be a big inconvenience to the rest of the paying guest.

I stayed here based on a recommendation. I booked the concierge level because I like the idea of unlimited water, soda, etc. It cost quite a bit more and required booking a suite. Upon arrival we were told the concierge floor wouldn’t have any food and was running on very limited service. By limited they meant they had water, soda, yogurt, breakfast bars and a broken coffee machine. Since I was exhausted I did tell them about the coffee machine and they did fix it. However, their vouchers for an appetizer and breakfast downstairs still wasn’t cutting it for me. The idea of a concierge floor was much more relaxing than running downstairs and sitting at a table waiting to be served. I voiced my concerns and they upgraded us to a nicer room. The room was beautiful. I recommend the rooms on the concierge level with the whirlpool.
Also, we chose this hotel for the pool. The pool was full of loud, screaming kids. Is there security on the pool or where did these people come from?! The hotel seemed empty. Towels were thrown all over the place. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned all day. We stayed for about 5 minutes and retreated back to our room after the screaming gave us a headache.
So, overall I’d return but I wish they’d give an upgrade without having to awkwardly ask if things aren’t as advertised. It’s a bit more expensive for the area so they should back their cost up with a more pleasant experience.

We got a good rate for this room; But we got this rate because this property is getting told. Room were really in need of an update. Things are starting to look very old and dingy. Service was OK — We were happy for what we paid; Just wished our room could have had more modern updates. Front desk staff was friendly.
A bit upsetting to me, as they did not permit our Pizza Guy to bring Pizza directly to our room. That was a buffer. Otherwise, staff are generally keen to help out. Staff are very friendly.
Hotel was quite busy this weekend. We visited the pool; bad acoustics — its hard to hear yourself. Situation makes one that should relaxing, simply not.
Nonetheless I really like this Hotel — Please just make it more modern!
Wedding made things a little interesting and noisy.

The hotel staff was great at check in. Gwen at the bar was amazing. I ordered the classic chesse burger which not right, Gwen immediately took it back and come back with the I asked for it to be cooked.
The housekeeping staff manager was good as well. She took time to explain to me if I didn’t want to have my room cleaned I would earn points or $ 5 off in the hotel restaurant or bar. I would stay again. On a side note if you are staying in one of the inner room where your window face other guest windows please remember to lower the shade because at every can look in your room.

I really like this hotel, it was huge, & very nice. The room we stayed in was very spacious especially the bathroom, which is a plus! If you’re traveling with kids or anyone that enjoys swimming they have a decent size indoor pool and jacuzzi. Our girls loved it and didn’t want to leave. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because it’s a pet friendly hotel HOWEVER they do NOT mention it to their guest during check in nor do they ask any questions such as «do you or anyone traveling with you have any allergies»! They need to make it a policy to ask their guest questions in regards to allergies because we were placed on the 2^nd floor of the hotel not knowing that was the floor anyone traveling with pets stay. We didn’t know because we were NEVER TOLD nor were we even asked about allergies. My oldest daughter is extremely allergic to pets /​pet dander and is asthmatic. During our stay she became sick and her dad and I couldn’t figure out what was causing her to breakout in rashes and hives until that is my husband went to the front desk to inquire about their «pet policy». All the front desk offered was an apology but really an apology didn’t help our daughter nor is it gong to help any other quest.

This is our 2^nd stay in this hotel. Just as good as the first time.
Stayed for one night. Tiffany Anderson, front desk agent, was extremely professional and sweet. She checked us in quickly and efficiently. The hotel is VERY clean. So are the rooms and the bed is very comfortable. We ordered room service and although there was a discrepancy in the bill, the manager on duty (I believe his name was Bill), had the error fixed promptly. The food was just ok but we were hungry so we gladly ate it!
The only reason I didn’t give this hotel 5 stars is due to the LOUD vent in the bathroom. There is nothing you can do to shut it off and even with the door shut, you can hear it. The air conditioner is loud too. You can barely hear the tv over them. Just a small annoyance in an overall great hotel.

As an SPG Platinum member this hotel was quite nice for my stay in Wilmington. They offered bonus points for extended corporate stays and they have a managers happy hour every Wednesday that includes free wine and apps.
Room Life: Large rooms with seperate living area. Upgrades included a jacuzzi tub to soak those sore muscles.
Loung Life: The breakfast in the lounge always included eggs, fruits, muffins, bacon/​sausage, and potatoes. Lounge happy hour from 5−8ish had a pretty good selection and included things like chicken, wraps, cookies, and other hors deuvres.
Surrounding Area Life: Food options sucked, very little to do. This hotel is great if you are workign a lot, need a good place to stay convienient to Wilmington and Newark. Plan your meals out of the hotel in other areas because New Castle only has fast food and junk.
Running Life: Hope you like airports as scenery, because that is your only option unless you want to run on a highway.

Updating my review after 24 hours…
Woke up the first morning after checking in to a gang of ants on the desk in the sitting room. Called the front desk and maintenance came up, observed the situation, and advised that I was being moved to another room. I was dressed and ready to go for work and had to quickly pack up my stuff so I could continue to an 830 meeting I had. I dropped my stuff off in my new room and left. Fast forward to 630 pm… I come in, use the restroom, and the toilet doesn’t flush… SERIOUSLY??? I call the front desk who advises maintenance is on the way up. Two minutes later, the phone rings and it’s the front desk telling me maintenance is tied up and it’ll be more like 30 – 45 minutes.
If this is the last hotel on the planet, I won’t stay here again. Bad food, I can overlook. Bugs and a non-​working toilet, unacceptable.

Being from Delaware and literally living around the corner, I worked a wedding one night one night and was astonished when I walked thru the main entrance. I could not believe this high-​end, beautiful hotel was in Delaware, and not even 2 miles from my home. The entry was modern and classy. The atrium was beautiful with glass elevators exposed. The outdoor wedding ceremony area was gorgeous. You wouldn’t even believe you were right off 95. I heard they have a good happy hour and can’t wait to check it out after work one day soon!

I come to Wilmington every week for work and I’d rather stay at the Westin by the riverfront. The suites are huge and clean but I prefer the heavenly beds and steam showers in the Westin. This place has kind of dim lightening but maybe it is because I am used to the brightness at the Westin.
The club lounge on the 5^th floor is ok… for apps at night they had mac n cheese and Swedish meatballs. There is also water, milk, and soda if you’re thirsty. For breakfast they had eggs and oatmeal (might have been grits, didn’t look that great). The westin by the riverfront doesn’t have a lounge but I don’t think it’s anything special.
I think I am biased because the Westin is newer. Overall the staff was friendly and the place was relatively clean, a little old but clean. I just prefer the heavenly beds and steam showers. Also the location is near the mall but not as convenient as downtown wilmington.
I think for the price you could also get better quality…

I came last month for a business trip for a night. I chose this hotel because of the ratings read on trip advisor.
After a long day of traveling/​work, I made my way to the hotel. Apparently the lights in the place had gone down. I had to wait for 20 minutes for the front desk to take my info and let me into my room (my keys weren’t given to me).
The room was nice, with a suite area. The lights were on and I plugged in my cell phone and found out none of the plugs were working. I called front desk and they said the electric company was fixing it right now… still after 2 hours, the plugs, nor the TV were working/​wifi…
the light in the bathroom was also flickering…
I gave up after midnight as there was no hope of electricity «properly» working.
I was disappointed in the fact that not only the front desk gave false hope but this high class hotel that charged 160/​night did not have basic amenities for more than 4 hours.

For $ 180/​night, you could definitely get better everything than what this place had to offer; yes, the location was conveniently right off the freeway, but it lacked in every other department. The hotel is located next to approximately nothing, so you’ll need to drive into town to pick up supplies or food-​and the town is a SNOOZER. The only upside was the restaurant, which had some decent food choices, complimentary breakfast (ALL THE BACON), and good service. Damn good service, in fact. You get all my tips, ladies.
But the room… tell me, why is it that only rooms with king-​size beds get mini-​fridges? Or that you don’t have any extras for guests to hook up in their rooms if they are staying for longer than 3 days? That’s just ridiculous. And how about unpacking and putting together my oxygen concentrator? Is that considered poor form?
I literally have a laundry list of complaints about my room, and it goes as follows: you can’t open the windows, there’s no central air (one side of the room gets freezing, the other stays warm), poor room layout (can’t see TV well from one bed), no water pressure in the shower, takes 5 minutes to get hot water in sink faucet, view of the highway (asked for a «special room» for a «special getaway»), bar service doesn’t start until 4 (despite bar opening at noon), lack of cleaning in room (dirty floors!!!), awful lighting and poorly placed mirrors in bathroom (no place to do makeup), wi-​fi went out halfway into my trip and never came back (front desk said they were «taking care of it»), lights went out in the hallway day two (followed by loud repairs for hours), couldn’t get half the cable channels to work (no Comedy Central, no Nickelodeon, no TNT), front desk gives out bad directions (thank god for GPS), and MOLDY. FUCKING. TONGS. I didn’t notice the mold on the tongs for the ice bucket and drank some of the shit in my drink before noticing something floating in my beverage and my friend’s. GROSS. Threw that nasty mess AWAY.
This place advertises itself as a modern hotel, but it’s like an aging beauty queen getting a few shots of botox – you can’t undo what’s there, only patch it up to keep up appearances. Your photographer deserves a bonus. I, however, wasn’t impressed. As far as I’m concerned, I just lost a grand to inconvenience myself; thanks for giving me a place to sleep, but that’s about all the good there was to this transaction.

I’ve been staying at this hotel for the past two months or so. Last week I left my watch in my hotel room after check out. I panicked and called the hotel Sunday only to be reassured that house keeping had picked up my watch and turned it into the lost and found. Great customer service!

We have stayed at this hotel every weekend since June. (So about 8 months worth). After staying in a number of other area hotels, this one seems to give us the most for our money. The suites are huge and mostly clean. We’ve had our occasional dirty table or beat up bath tub, but overall the experience has been very pleasant. The complimentary toiletries are above and beyond the normal shampoo/​soap/​conditioner, with packaged sponges, mouthwash, nail kits, slippers and shaving cream. The beds are extremely comfortable. There are microwaves, wet bars and fridges in all of the suites. The executive lounge on the 5^th floor has complimentary Starbucks coffees and teas, hot chocolate, Cokes, Sprites, Ginger Ales, bottled water, all varieties of milk including Silk, yogurts, fruit and granola bars. They also serve complimentary happy hour hors d’oevres. The hotel is not close to anything, and the in hotel restaurant is not that great, but there is always pizza delivery! ;) The breakfast is not terrible. ;) The staff are ALL incredibly welcoming, accommodating and friendly. I definitely recommend.

Construction in room next door until 9 pm. Really Sheraton? Major fail. And after a call to front desk at 8 pm that they should have been done already. Do ya think? Sounded like they were building another hotel in the room next door.

Stayed here for two weeks recently while in town for work. Generally a very nice, beautiful, well-​maintained hotel. Booked an executive suite, and enjoyed it very much — very spacious and comfy. Staff overall is very friendly. The bartender, Cheryl, was really cool. She’s a nice bartender who treats everyone really well, especially those familiar faces who frequent the bar. She definitely made the drinking /​dining experience pretty chill. The hotel is pretty isolated from stores and bars and what not, but I didn’t mind. I tend to enjoy relaxing at the hotel when I’m out of town. Plus, generally, there’s really not much to do in DE that’s interesting to begin with, so I was fine at the hotel. The one thing I didn’t like is that the kitchen (and room service) stops at like 11pm, which I’m just not accustomed to. I’m a late eater, and I like knowing that I can order something at any hour of the day or night to be sent to my room.
The hotel also had a shuttle service, which helped me save a lot of money that would’ve otherwise been urinated away on taxis. I’m from NY, so I’m used to paying an arm and a leg for things, but even by NY standards, let me say that cab prices in DE are unbelievably expensive, beyond NY cabs. A 12 minute ride from the amtrak station to the hotel cost me like $ 40; the fare kept increasing like 40 cents every ¹⁄₅ of a mile! It was beyond belief. But that has nothing to do with the hotel. Regarding the hotel itself, it was a very nice, comfortable, and peaceful stay, and I’ll definitely by staying here again when I’m DE again for business.

Decent location. Lots of space for parking.
The gym and pool area are spacious and clean.
Front desk is knowledgeable and very courteous.
I would stay here again if I had to stay at a Sheraton.

I enjoyed my stay at The Sheraton Hotel. The location was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful in fixing a maintenance issue in my room. I booked my stay through groupon and was very pleased with the room. I had a chance to use the pool and the hot tub. It was a nice relaxing way to end the evening. I usually don’t enjoy room service but I enjoyed my meal that I had for dinner. The room was clean and I enjoyed my stay. I will definitely choose this hotel again.

I stayed at this hotel for about a year on weekdays so over 100 nights at this hotel in total.
Pro’s:
1. Hotel is clean
2. Front desk staff go out of their way to be professional and nice
3. Parking is always available, but it is not covered.
4. Club Room is pretty slick and the breakfast is good as far as a free breakfast goes (scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, coffee/​cappuccino machine, juices and fresh fruits) and is always open so drinks in the middle of the night are so nice when I come home late after work.
5. Rooms are always cleaned well by the hotel maids.
Con’s:
1. Parking is not covered, and can be rough in winter to walk in the rain/​sleet/​snow/​cold.
Overall, I loved this hotel and its staff.

The hotel looks scary on the outside, but don’t let that fool you. The inside of the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are almost breath-​taking (at least until you look outside and see the depressing surroundings). I would have given this hotel 4 stars until the dining experience downstairs. I am in my room right now, and felt obliged to inform everyone to stay away from the restaurant!
A colleague and I tried to find a local restaurant that had more than 50 reviews and had a rating of at least 4 stars. You’d be surprised, but finding such a place is nearly impossible in DE. So, we decided to grab dinner downstairs especially after the front desk staff assured us that the food is delicious and that the new chef is «amazing».
We ordered «lightly» breaded calamari and «fresh mozzarella and tomatoes» salad (or, as most of you may know it, caprese salad). The lightly breaded calamari were really breaded to the point where we wondered where was the meat?! We had to return them, because they were that bad. The caprese salad had 4 slices of mozzarella cheese that was anything BUT fresh and 3 slices of tomatoes. Hmmm, what?!
Oh, the best is yet to come. Instead of the gross calamari, we opted for the spinach-​mango salad that normally comes with salmon. We asked our server if we can get the salad without the salmon and be charged as though it were an appetizer. She said «of course», and twenty minutes later we had the salad. Salad was actually pretty good, although they could have eased up on the dressing. We also ordered the risotto (or, as they spelled it, risoto) that was made in a light (or, as they spelled it, lite) sauce. The risotto was over-​cooked, but edible, and the chicken was pretty good, so we enjoyed it. Oh, we ordered some bread rolls for the table that arrived just before our desert. WHAT?! Exactly.
To top things off, we ordered the white chocolate bread pudding and received a brownie. She charged us for everything above, including the spinach salad WITH salmon. Who ate that salmon, I wonder?
So, eat at McDonald’s if you must, but stay away from the restaurant downstairs. That said, stay at this hotel because it’s clean and the rooms are nice. I am about to enjoy that bed, but rest assured that I will be back to report on its shortcomings should I experience them.
