A Kicky Blend of WiFi and WiBuy…
Things are happening at 206 Delaware Street in Historic New Castle, Delaware.
This historic building, circa 1682, has taken on a new look, and is now a cozy corner for coffee, conversation, and checking out consummate artisans.
Reputed to be the house where William Penn spent his first night in the new world after he landed in New Castle, the house was known as the William Penn Guest House for many years.
Newly robed in shades of Jamestown Red and Colonial Gold, the shutters and doors are now welcoming a new population of highly skilled artisans, local musicians and weary travelers looking for a good cup of Joe or glass of wine or beer, a tasty nibbly and a comfy place to log on.
History
Established in 2010.
Penn’s Place was created to help in the revitalization efforts of the City of Historic New Castle. Empty for three years, the interest for the location was only residential in nature. Located in the center of the commercial district, conversion to a private home would be devastating for the long-term growth and preservation of this historic town. The thought process was that the town needed a central gathering place to meet, eat, drink, shop… and be merrie!
The arts are also vital to the overall growth and unique identity of a community, which is why part of Penn’s Place is home to the Menagerie of Artisans, a small business incubator to support local artisans in growing their own business in a supportive environment, by offering affordable rents and infrastructure to support an upstart business geared specifically to the arts.
Our newest addition is The Muse at Penn’s Place, an intimate Cabaret setting offering LIVE entertainment on Saturday evenings to support local performers.
