Loved the stuffed Porkchop. Back patio is a hidden gem. Our waiter Jimmy was super nice. Manager was very friendly. We will def. be back soon!

Went back up to visit family and decided to see if this place changed in any way from the last time I was there. Also because it is so convenient to my family’s home, I gave it another shot. The same rude, obnoxious and mean owner, Mike, still runs the place and it could have the best food in the world, his presence makes the meal almost inedible. I have never seen a superior talk to his employees like this guy does and I wish the overall owner of the business would finally wake up and fire this a-hole.

We ordered a veggie Apizza and a mozzerella Apizza. Decent pizza and they had foxon park white birch on tap. Check the living social app/website to get a 30 dollar voucher for 15 bucks. Be advised they add a 20 percent gratuity to the pre voucher amount.

My 2 friends and I came here after unsuccessfully trying to get food from Frank Pepe on our return from our roadtrip to RI. The place wasn’t too crowded, but it wasn’t completely empty, either. Large menu with lots of customization available. My friends and I decided to try out their various pizzas, as none of us have ever gotten to try New Haven style pizza before. The food itself was fine. I had plenty of leftovers to bring back home with me, so the prices were very reasonable. The service was a little slow, though, but other than that, the place was perfectly fine. 3.5 stars, really, but I rounded down due to the sluggish service.

I’ve been here several times for gluten free pizza. It is definitely the best gluten free pie I have ever had. And price wise, for 14.50 to get a seafood pizza or their meat lovers, that is certainly on the lower end of the gluten free spectrum. the service there isn’t always the friendliest, but my order is always correct. I have ordered delivery once and my food arrived as ordered, on time, and it was very good. I have had their regular pizza as well and it is very good. this is a must try for any people with gluten allergies!

I went here for the first time yesterday, on Valentine’s Day, just looking for a pizza to share, and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and DELICIOUS pizza. Decided on a simple medium pie with calamari, half white half red. Perfectly seasoned and not half burnt like Pepe’s always is. This is the way thin crust pizza should be. I wish I knew our server’s name, she was funny and helpful and told us she had worked there for twenty years. My boyfriend and I were both very happy with the pizza and service. All the other food that was being brought out looked and smelled incredible as well. I’ve always gone to Tony and Lucille’s when I visited Wooster Street in the past, but it’s good to know there is a smaller and equally delicious option right next door to Libby’s!

Insanely delicious thin crust brick oven pizza. Why wait in line at those other places? Our Italian bomb was loaded with meats, the crust was perfectly crisp with just a little char. I’m crying that this is so good, and kind of shows me how very bad the pizza I’ve become accustomed to since leaving new haven is.

*Not family friendly.* We ended up here for a dinner stop on a long road trip with two young kids when we hoped to try famous Frank Pepe’s, but the line was too long. Food was unobjectionable to fine, and the diner building is cute, but the service ruined it. We actually felt unwelcome, to the point that I wondered if they are, or if New Haven is, famous for being unfriendly or something(or maybe I’ve been out of New England too long?). One wait staff member in particular had a toxic presence, and no one else really made up for it. Before I even had a chance to sit, she snapped at me for being unintentionally in her way(she said«excuse me», but as rudely as someone could), and then audibly complained to another staff member about us being given a table. Finally, our 1 year old insisted on toddling around before the food came(which is annoying, but he’s 1, and by virtue of the many kids there, this appeared to be a family friendly place). One of us was always with him and pulled him out of the way of servers when they came. They told us we had to stop letting him walk around. Luckily the food came quickly afterwards and the restaurant didn’t have to listen to him have a tantrum. Anyway, it’s fine, but obvs, I wouldn’t go back.

A friend and I were in the mood for shrimp alfredo, and we love Abate’s so we figured what better place to order from?! Not our feeling after the interaction with the restaurant staff over the phone. We were told that it would be a dollar extra per shrimp, so we opted for shrimp scampi and paid extra for a side of alfredo sauce. We made sure that the dinner came with bread and salad(because their bread was always delicious) and placed our order. The food came within the estimated time. It was lukewarm but we do not live necessarily close by so we were fine with the temperature. We were very disappointed to find no salad or bread in our delivery(especially considering the shrimp scampi alone was $ 18). When we called back the restaurant we were told that they are using a delivery service and the driver forgot the bread and salad. In fact, the response from the staff member when I said that we did not get the items was a very flat«I know». I am all for understanding an element of human error, but I was very disappointed in the manner that the mistake was handled. The woman could have called me once she noticed the driver left the other items(or preferably called the driver to have him come back), or apologize and try to find a solution. Instead we were told that delivery was over and we would have to mention the salad and bread«next time» and they would figure it out then. As for the food itself, the dish(pasta, shrimp, butter and garlic) was not worth $ 18. Sorry, Abate’s there will probably not be a next time. You can keep the bread and salad(and attitude!)

Cold pizza, slow delivery, and TERRIBLE customer service. I’ve ordered delivery from Abates several times over the past year, and each time I’ve been somewhat disappointed with the quality and speed of delivery. However, this time was the last straw, and I felt inclined to finally write a review. We order pizza for office lunches and events at Yale quite often, and the orders usually arrive 10 – 15 minutes past the requested delivery time. This usually isn’t an issue, as people are always hungry and eat the pizza regardless. Today, our pizza order was delivered 20 minutes late, and arrived barely warmed with cold crust.(Considering Abates is only 1.5 miles away by car, this was disappointing.) The bigger issue this time was that I called Abates to let them know the pizza arrived late and cold, and I was questioned by two separate employees. I let the first employee know what happened, and she offered to deliver another pizza to replace the first. I agreed, but when I mentioned we had already started eating it, she interrupted and said«Oh we can’t replace it if you already started eating it.» To which I responded«Well we didn’t know it was cold until we started eating it.» I was put on hold, and a different female employee came on the phone and began to question my complaint stating, «Well we’re making them as they come out, and you’re literally just down the street… so I’m not sure how it could have arrived cold. But we’re also doing a lot of big orders right now so…» I explained that I just wanted to let them know of the issue, to which she responded«Well what do you want me to do?» I politely stated never mind, and that we wouldn’t be ordering from them in the future. To which she responded«Well do you want a credit or something?» When I again politely stated no, I was hung up on. Needless to say, I will never order delivery from Abates again based solely on this terribly disappointing customer service experience. Additionally, I will spread the word to fellow Yale students, staff, and faculty to do the same.

Ordered the clam pizza, half red and half white. Both were killer! Our waitress, Kimberly was awesome! Great service, very friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. Large selection of dinners, apps, pizza, and specials. It was our first visit but it will NOT be our last! So yummy, reasonable prices and a cute patio outside overlooking Wooster Street. Bravo!

Very good, thin-crust pizza. We stopped for lunch on our way through New Haven and this was a great alternative to the long line at Pepe’s down the street. The medium pie was very generous, way more than we could eat, but I bet it will be excellent cold later when we are stuck in summer Sunday traffic! Watching other dishes come out of the kitchen, things look really good. I’d definitely try this again if I’m in town!

We tried pizza yesterday with little reservation but it was a pleasant surprise. It was better and cheaper than Pepe and no need to stand in line outside.

Worst food! Chicken was like rubber, pizza was water and the bread was hard/stale. I would rather not eat then eat here. Avoid at all costs.

This Wooster St. resturant never fails to impress. The food is consistently good which makes sense because Abates has been a staple in New Haven for a very long time. Reasonable prices for great food. Definitely a good date spot. They have their own parking lot and Libby’s is right next door for desert. Sally’s is my favorite on Wooster Street but Abates is always a close second.

This restaurant is exactly what you expect, an abundance of carbs, grease and Italian flavors. If that is what you are looking for, you will love this place. I only came here because my family wanted to. I would never choose to eat here on my own. So my stars are heavily influenced by my general dislike of unhealthy places like this. The great If there is a long wait at Frank Pepe’s, this place may have seating much quicker. The good No one will be hungry after eating here. The service is attentive and friendly. The bad To me this place epitomizes the negatives of restaurants. The portions are absurdly oversized. There are so many menu options, and none are great. And details are overlooked on simple dishes. My side salad had chucks of red onions and whole cherry tomatoes. That is just lazy preparation, especially since the knives are so dull they don’t cut the onions without lots of effort. Also, the food is all unhealthy. Society is too overweight in general. Restaurants like this are a big reason why. And after eating about 1⁄5 of my vodka penne, my stomach started hurting.

The place hasn’t changed much décor wise in the past 10 years and could use some updating. My waitress was attentive and I didn’t wait long at all. My food was good, but not great. Pretty average really. I ordered penne ala vodka and asked for chicken to be added. I got maybe 5 tiny little chunks of chicken. Pretty disappointing. I’d stick with the pizza rather than the dinners.
