Towards the end of a late night out with friends, we had a hankering for some late-night-food prior to heading home. We popped into Jake’s Diggity Dogs for two southerner dogs and a chicago dog. We each enjoyed our hot dog and were pleased with our respective decisions. Verdict: I became a fast fan of the Southerner and recommend it to anyone who likes sweet and salty with a bit of crunch.

Was told I’d have to wait for 10 – 15 minutes. Couldn’t believe that sort of wait for a hot dog. So exacting standards(??) for a hot dog caused me to keep walking. Disappointed.

Dear Jakes Diggity Dogs, I expected better. Much better. That sad ass Mac and cheese was an insult to food. I did better when I was 9 and babysitting myself. Kraft Mac and cheese on a hot dog? Maybe not so bad fresh, but this was slightly reheated day old bullshit. Also, maybe this is Zoomers fault, but the food was 30 minutes later than expected and wrapped in 10 yards of aluminum foil. Barely warm. Barely edible. Great idea, terrible execution. Step it up.

Man this place is great! The hotdogs here are all footlong and with a hell of a lot of toppings to choose from. I’ve been there couple times now I have to say my favorite dog is the Ruben dog now this hot dog is topped with pastrami russian dressing sauerkraut and I put some deli mustard up there and it was just to die for. My second favorite dog has to be the tex because this dog has their great chili barbecue sauce and bacon yes that’s right bacon and it was huge and I enjoyed every bit of it. I have one warning for you though if you attempt to come here and eat while they’re hot dogs or two you need to go out in wheelchair and also you have to eat it with a fork because because it’s so much toppings. The reason why didn’t really give it a five stars is because it’s kind of a small location so it’s not a lot of space in there to eat and bring friends and you know hang out but overall this place is a must stop.

Simply amazing! While the place is small the food is unbelievable. My girlfriend and I go here any chance we get! The Mac and cheese dog is the best and their mocha is out of this world

Worst service ever, and ridiculously overpriced. You’re better off going to Stop & Shop and buying a pack of hot dogs to cook yourself.

LOVELOVELOVE the ice cream mochi here! I’d never had it until my sister introduced it to me a couple years ago, and now I refuse to visit her in New Haven without a trip to get these little treats. It’s so fun to pick out your flavors from their large selection, and they are just a nice spin on having a frozen dessert. Some of my favorites are the passionfruit, pistachio, and mango. I usually stick to fruity flavors, but they have a wide assortment of sweeter ice cream varieties as well.

Stopped here on the way home to grab a hot dog for take out. Which was quite pricey $ 8 and a drink came to $ 12++, guy there was unfriendly should have just left but was hungry. Got home, unwrapped my food and it was cold, bread a little stale. Never again. Bad food and people. Go to a hot dog cart way better!

This is a great little restaurant to grab a quick bite to eat in New Haven. The hot dog selections are inventive and full of variety. I was very impressed with the amount of topping and options that are available for selection. The service is amazing. The guys are so attentive to each and every customer and make you feel welcomed and ensure your meal is delicious. I’ll definitely be returning.

I’ve been inside a few times before but only for the mochi, which is delicious by the way(get the lychee!). But after a long night at Karaōke Heroes, I stumbled(literally) over in search of some late night noms. That’s when I discovered The Mac. There are no words to describe how delicious & satisfying this was. I’m a pretty small person & I scarfed the thing down like I was Joey Chestnut. I’ve definitely found my new favorite go to place for late night dining!

Came here for the mochi, and for that I’m giving 5 stars. The flavors were incredible and they have one new flavor every month. We ended up ordering one of each because they aren’t that expensive, and they were all good except for the green tea one but that’s only because I’m not a fan of strong green tea flavor. We also got a rueben hot dog just to try it out and it was really good, but nothing too special. Maybe it was because we were too excited about the mochi. The hot dog get 4 stars.

I wasn’t expecting anything more than your standard hot dog fare, but this place is amazing. They variety of toppings and dare I say quantity is unbelievable. The owner Jake is a great guy too! Their actual website doesn’t really exist so this place is mostly word of mouth but its a must eat place in New Haven. Along those lines, I just uploaded the full menu. The prices may sound a bit high for one dog, but you can easily get two meals out of one! I’ve slowly been working my way through the menu — some odd combinations for sure, but I have yet to encounter anything I didn’t like. Oh and now they do delivery through which makes it even more convenient :)

Got a Chicago style hotdog. Expecting a generic hotdog in a generic bun? Not here. Sliced in half dog filled to the brim with toppings! Great«everything» bun that was a big upgrade from a basic plain bun. Mochi filled with ice cream seems like a random combination, but the mochi is excellent and finishes off the meal very well!

Late night food at its finest. This a is a great stop when you are stumbling out of the bars in the area. They stay open late and have pretty much any topping you could ever ask for on a hot dog. I got a footlong hot dog with macaroni and cheese all over it. Heaven. Youre gosh darn right. Eat here and make your heart happy.

Passing through town and trying to get a late night bite to eat in an unfamiliar city, we stopped here. Staff behind the counter was friendly and helpful. The hot dogs were big and tasty, and they absolutely do not skimp on toppings. Mine was so loaded up that I really had no choice but to eat it with a knife and fork, which is fine, but I do wish their paper plates were at least big enough to actually hold the food entirely on them. I had chili and onions dripping onto the table the second it was set down. Get the everything bun on your dog. It’s worth it. Did not try the mochi.

Being prone to the occasional hot dog craving and having patronized the Mochi Store many times before it closed, I was obviously intrigued by this new incarnation. But it took me months to finally try Jake’s, as I would either arrive immediately after closing(I typically don’t grab dinner before 7:30, and they’re only open till 8:00 pm most nights. Argh.) or when I passed by there would inexplicably be a sign in the window saying they were on a break. If I were a religious person, I might have interpreted it as an exhortation against my quest for meaty bliss. But I persisted, and eventually found them open at an opportune time last weekend. Hours aside, they make some really tasty hot dogs. I went for the Reuben, with pastrami, swiss, sauerkraut, and two kinds of mustard(spicy and horseradish) and it was almost as perfect a meal for a cold Sunday afternoon during football season as one could hope for. Great snap and char on the dog, high-quality toppings, and the mustards packed serious heat. If I had one complaint, it would be that the bun didn’t really have any chance of standing up to the pile of deliciousness heaped upon it, but there are forks and knives so that’s not a dealbreaker. Plus, the owner was great and even let us change the TV inside to a different game. I didn’t try the mochi ice cream this time, but I’m almost positive that it’s the same kind that was served in the Mochi Store, which is excellent. Bottom line: Great hot dogs, great mochi, sometimes infuriating hours. Try them!

Jake’s dogs were out of this world. So many options for whatever you want in your hot dog. I had an everything bagel-bun and cream cheese on my dog, and it was heaven. We tried 8 mochi together for dessert and every one of them was decadent. Not to mention, the owner was exceptionally friendly and kind-hearted. It is clear that he cares not only about customer service but loves his job. After we watched a gaggle of girls leave the shop, he realized one of them had left their wallet, and ran down the street to return it. Great experience here – if you want some great hot dogs or mochi, this is the place.

Ice cream mochi and hot dogs? Only in America. God bless this country. Surprisingly, both the mochi and hot dogs serve as excellent late night snacks, so the combination is less weird than you’d expect. Does it work together? Not really. But separately, yeah it’s pretty good. I really like the mango and chocolate raspberry mochi when they’re available. The hot dogs seem ridiculously over-priced at first, but they’re like a foot long, so it’s almost like you’re paying for a sausage grinder. Warning though — the food is good, but I’m not sure the recipes are 100% authentic. If you’re a hot dog guru you’ll probably be disappointed. Their Chicago dog doesn’t seem authentic, and the chili in the Coney Island dog fell flat. The mac and cheese topping is delicious though, and I heartily recommend it.

I used to come by pretty frequently when this was just the mochi store, and had a brief moment of panic when I saw the sign change. Good news for all the other mochi aficionados– they still carry the same bubbies brand mochi, in all your favorite flavors AND with the flavors-of-the-months! And the frequent buyer card for the mochi still works! So now that we’ve set those worries aside… If you’re super indecisive, this place has just become your personal hell. If you like customizability and having lots of options, this place approaches paradise. I’m not generally a huge hotdog fan, but the service here is great. Jake(the owner) is super friendly and accommodating. They use Hebrew National brand hotdogs, which are 100% beef. The dogs are pretty big, and they’re grilled to order – they’re split down the middle, which is kind of different from the way I’m used to eating them. There’s a long list of free toppings(all your standard stuff) and lots of mustard options(8 I think), and then there’s a LONG list of options for special topping combos(like mac and cheese!). The buns can be plain or an «everything» bun(kind of like an everything bagel). Again, the hotdogs are pretty big– I could only eat half of mine before getting full, so next time I’d probably try the child-sized one or split with a friend. The toppings are pretty generous, and they’re super customizable. If you want only 3 pickle slices, you can get exactly three. If you want to pile on the pickles and the mac and cheese and add barbecue sauce to only half of the dog, you can do that too. There’s more indoor seating than there used to be with the mochi store(aka you can ACTUALLYSITDOWNANDEATINNOW!), which is pretty cool. Overall: The service is great, and the food has lots of customizability. If you’re not a hot dog person, these may not be enough to convert you, but there’s definitely a lot of interesting options if you like to try new things! Last but not least, the mochi are still as wonderful as they’ve always been.
