Up & Down Movers

We’ve moved a lot in the past few years and we’ve had some very negative experiences with different moving companies (one never showed up the day of the move, another took six weeks to deliver our goods after they promised us two weeks) so I was wary of dealing with another moving company at all. But it was too much for my husband and I to do on our own, so I crossed my fingers and contacted these guys. I am so happy I did! Aaron was polite, professional and prompt in his communications when setting up the move and processing my payment afterward. Terrance and Rich were professional, efficient, helpful, and so friendly. I would hire them again in a heartbeat and would recommend them to anyone. Thanks, Aaron, Terrance and Rich!

I cannot say enough good things about these guys. Professional, courteous, fast, reasonably priced and efficient. They arrived on time, were careful with my daughter’s stuff, communicated well before the move. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!

We moved to New Haven on one of those scorching spring days and had arranged with Aaron at Up and Down to help us unload. Our two movers – Grant and Calvin – were phenomenal. Tireless, careful, amiable, and efficient. A 15 foot truck in less than 2 hours, up and down flights of stairs. Props to the company and its staff. I will use them again.

Will and Darren were amazing !! Really nice and positive guys. I had ordered a small POD and was really nervous my stuff wasn’t going to fit. They helped me prioritize and I was amazed at what they got in. They were super efficient as well with their time. Overall made my move a better experience and my whole family wants to hire them for their moves now!

I’m super impressed by Up & Down Movers, especially Will’s ninja packing skills. My husband and I were on a really tight schedule for the move, and we wanted to go with a company that could offer us 3 movers to complete the job in 2 hours so we could start the 8-​hour drive towards our destination and arrive before our new apartment office closed (so we could get the keys and do the inspection). Up & Down Movers was one of only two moving companies in New Haven that could provide us with 3 movers, and based on other Unilocalers’ reviews they seemed really experienced and easy to work with, so we decided to go with them. Truly they were very professional and responsive to our numerous calls and questions, and on the day of the move they showed up on time (actually a few min early), came up to our apartment to assess the items that needed to be moved, then strategized how to move and divvied up who moves what. We had about 85 large boxes weighing between 20−65lbs each, about 5 large pieces of furniture, and 3 flights of stairs to climb. Two of the guys did the moving while the third guy, Will, stayed with our moving truck to do all the packing. And oh man did he do a great job with packing! We rented a 16ft truck worried that our stuff might not all fit, but Will is clearly a Tetris master and built a compact wall of boxes and furniture along the front wall of the truck and tied everything down securely with the rope that we provided. When everything was said and done (they finished the job in 1 hour 40 min), only ¹⁄₃ of the 16ft truck was filled up – it was amazing. We then drove 8 hours towards our destination (and made it before the office closed!). Everything was still intact after the long drive, nothing really shifted, and when we unpacked all our boxes and reassembled our furniture, nothing was broken either. We are definitely super happy with Up & Down Movers’ professionalism and performance.

A Big Thank You to Terrance and Jerry for a great move. First class throughout the whole transaction. They arrived at the North Haven Apartment on time, packed quickly and expertly loaded our stuff our storage unit in Pennsylvania. They only had a 45 minute head start while we finished our business in CT but beat us to PA and unloaded before we arrived. Great communication in setting up the date at a fair fixed price. Highly recommend.

I moved from New Haven 2^nd floor apt to New York City to a 3^rd floor walk up. They were extremely friendly and efficient. I asked them to bring extra padding for a 55inch flatscreen TV and mattress cover, and they brought that and extra blankets for protecting other furniture. They charged a flat-​rate and there were no surprises or extra charges other than $ 7 for the mattress cover which I already knew about.
They were friendly, fast, and professional. I needed receipt for work reimbursement and that was emailed to me within the week. I highly recommend them for any move.

Very positive experience. I moved last year and used a different company, the other company charged $ 200 more and took over twice as long as Up & Down. Crew was very helpful, fast, and didn’t experience any issues. Would use them again.

I have used up and down movers twice, and they have been on time and professional. Aron the owner has displayed the type of leadership it takes to run a frist class moving business!

We used them twice
1. Oct 2014 — moving from 1 bedroom to 2 bedroom, 5 miles away
2. Oct 2015 — moving from 2 bedroom to single family home, 18 miles away
Co-​incidentally same guys showed up, they remembered us and we remembered them :)
No issues with them, nothing broke and they were quick and co-​operative.
They disassembled big furniture (beds and dining table) and assembled them perfectly
Pricing was good too. Will recommend them to anyone

my wife and i moved from ct to nj. these guys were awesome. aaron was very responsive. someone wrote they are not insured but the condo association i was moving into required a certificate of insurance and they were able to provide one last minute.
the rates are very reasonable. the movers i had included his foreman, but they were honestly awesome people and me feel relaxed on a very stressful day, were polite, courteous, made an extra stop and everything arrived safely. im super happy and highly recommend these gentlemen.

I didn’t plan ahead and needed movers within 24 hrs and Up & Down Movers easily accommodated me. They arrived on time, unloaded my truck carefully and efficiently, and charged a fair rate.

After using these guys twice I can tell you that they are on time, professional, careful and very accommodating. Our second time using them we even had to cancel and reschedule at the very last minute and they were incredibly nice about it. I can’t recommend them enough.

The movers are now claiming my son and his friends moved the TV. This mover was paid to move the items. It is a pathetic excuse for not taking responsibility for their actions. They leave us no recourse but to go to small claims court. Buyer beware!

First time hiring movers, didn’t know what to expect. Moved from an apartment to a house/​space in a house (its complicated). Other than the 2 hr lateness (they apologized and explained beforehand so that was good) it was a very good job.
Very hardworking, friendly/​funny but professional gentlemen. They were very careful with not scratching my stuff or the walls of my old apartment and new location. Worked fast, whole move was done in 2−3hrs (but then again I didn’t need them to reassemble anything so…)
Would definitely recommend them and use again.

These guys are really good. They moved us from a 2 bedroom, 3^rd story walk-​up in New Haven to Jersey City within a single day (from 8 AM to 4 PM – a feat deemed impossible by all of the other movers I requested quotes from).
Additionally, these guys are reasonably priced. Aaron — who runs the business — is always easy to get in-​touch with and he even showed-​up briefly on move day to make sure the job was going well. No complaints at all. Highly recommend.

Perhaps you have to move and you don’t have anyone to help you? Perhaps your apartment is up a very narrow staircase to a third floor apartment… Perhaps, just perhaps, you have attempted the move on your own and fell and busted your knee on the very first trip. What do you do? You hire movers…
Sometimes you need a dude… Or two dudes… To do the work for you…
Here comes the tricky part… Who’s a scam artist, who’s going to bust up all of your sh*t… Who’s just not going to show up?
I searched all avenues and came upon these guys. They were twenty minutes late… BUT… I understand that moving can be tricky and they give you estimates of time in the beginning so seriously… Who cares? And grant called… And told me… So that’s what counts in my book
I was nervous… I was really flipping nervous… I’m anxious by nature… But grant assured me that this would be done with ease and not to worry… He was right!
I didn’t have to lift a finger… I just had to direct… This control freak was taking it all in stride and I’m glad that I did. There was grant and the other guy who’s name I forgot… Of course… But they were both fantastic!!!
One of my pieces currently has a slight ding on the corner but I really don’t care.
My new apartment is super narrow and the fact that they got anything up any flights of stairs is amazing to me. This is how moving should be… It is a necessary luxury…
Grant let me know that they take pride in what they do and they uphold a certain level
Of professionalism and although it was a comfort level of hanging out with your friends, I was completely confident that the job would be done correctly…

Now,
I unpack.

I had a very good experience with up and downs movers. The booking by phone went fine and Aaron even called me back the day before the moving to accommodate an earlier time (which was not available at the time I called).
Their team of 2 was friendly, on time and did a great job moving me from a two bedrooms apartment with two flights of stairs (not easy ones). They put everything in place nicely. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is a few scratches on some furniture.
The price was as expected, they did the job in the time they had estimated.
Everything went smoothly. A worry free moving.

The Up and Down Movers are all things you look for in a moving company: Professional, fast, careful.
I was dreading my move across town in New Haven. I read reviews and heard about Up and Down Movers by word of mouth so I decided to call them for help.
1) Professional: Aaron the owner called me 30 minutes before my scheduled time to let me know they were on their way. They came 5 minutes before my scheduled time. Aaron and his partner were very professional, but also easy to talk to. They took the time to listen to what needed to be moved, and what didn’t. They were very friendly. I felt so cared for! In the end, Aaron broke down the bill and went through it very carefully with me.
2) Fast: What can I say, Up and Down Movers moved my apartment across town in 1 hour and 30 minutes! I was shocked. I was expecting it to take 4 hours or something! But they took a look at my stuff and said it should take no time. They were very strategic, they were very right. They know what they are doing!
3) Careful: They handled my stuff very gently too! No walls or beds have any scratches. No broken glassware.
I couldn’t asked for a better company. In the past I HATED moving. Moving in general is such a dreadful process. But Up and Down Movers made it such a pleasant process. I am going to recommend them to my friends if they ever need to move!
