Was a decent place before the smoking rules made the few places that still allow it into havens for militant inconsiderate assholes who make a point of it. At one time you could actually enjoy this music venue. Now, you’re lucky to see the stage through the clouds. I feel sorry for the musicians who don’t smoke. Final experience here was having just gotten our food on the very crowded patio, the prick just upwind lit up like a chimney without a «do you mind?» J&P, it’s the 21st century. Join us.

Walking through New Hope looking for a place with a good burger menu came across this little hole in the wall bar with patio and decided to try it out. The onion rings were fabulous with a large serving for just $ 5! But the burgers were fabulous, one of the best burgers I’ve had! I love build your own burgers cause they make it jut the way you like it! My husband got bacon cheese burger and the bacon was perfectly crispy unlike most places never cook the bacon well enough! The sautéed onion & mushrooms on mine were great! The inside is a small the pub and the bathrooms are tiny but do the job, there was a stage inside so I assume they have live music some nights also. It’s a small little bar like place but with a great burger & that’s the really important part! The waitress was great & friendly too! Would definitely visit again when in the mood for a great burger! :)

I love this place more than any place I’ve ever been to. The staff is made up of the nicest people and always treat us well. They remember us are always friendly and very attentive. Hard to find the quick service with drinks that can even be complicated you can tell everyone there loves their jobs. Amazing place will always be my go-to when in town. Love it! :)

How is it not ILLEGAL to sell ‘pints’ of beer in a 12oz plastic cup??? YOUARERIPPINGPEOPLEOFF!!! The lack of proper management is apparent from the way they short change the customer at every opportunity. $ 10 for a burger, and they served it on the cheapest paper plate possible. We were shocked. REALLY? 50 cent up charge for a 4oz container of salsa. Wouldn’t have asked for it if I knew. Also, the waiter was stoned. Never again.

On a rainy Saturday night, a friend and I stopped in around 7:30 after our other plans fell through. We were the ONLY customers there, but Erica, our waitress was very welcoming. She let us know that there would be a great band playing around 9:30 and that we should stay for the show. We ended up staying and laughing with some locals until around 1:30 when the show ended. There was a good selection of beer. The food menu wasn’t very extensive but we got chicken fingers and mozz sticks and they were satisfactory. Overall, it was a great night and I’ll definitely be back!

Fun, yummy, laid back. Service is great… attentive. Nachos are really good. So are the onion rings. Sierra Nevada bottles makes it a definite place to stop in.

Very cool old old bar. Low dealings, reminds me of a secret Boston bar. Beer and a BIG shot.$ 10

this no-good, no-nonsense nook is the most wonderfully worn, tattered and torn treasure in new hope’s hairy, bedazzled chest — a magical cavern bubbling with debauchery, loyalty & bubbly; where humble hedonists go to slurp the fuckballz out of life(with causal abandon). show it your unadorned love and alcoholic affection, and if it loves you back, congratulations — you are a mad-decent, dope-as-fuck motherfucker. Just like us.

Classic New Hope. It is a little odd, which is perfect. Great set up and great live music. It is a must stop for a New Hope Trip.

John & Peter’s Place in New Hope is one of my favorite dive bars to goto. They frequently have some great bands on their calendar. One of my favorite bands«Rainbow Fresh» often performs here. I saw them perform twice in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and luckily enough without any notice or knowledge, they were performing at John & Peter’s when we came to New Hope. They perform some really good original music and they also play a Led Zep song or two during their performances. I still have one of their old albums in my car. As for John & Peter’s. Food and drinks are well priced compared to every other joint on Main St. Their portions are quite large. The bartenders are really friendly. I wish their restroom could be a little cleaner and better air ventilation. Other than that, it’s a fun place to be in New Hope.

A dimly lit bar that allows smoking indoors definitely seems out of place in a tourist town, but clearly appeals to a select few, but it’s divey atmosphere is what makes it so charming. J&Ps has been on the same spot since 1972 and it doesn’t look like much has changed since then. The bartender was pleasant, even though we were clearly not locals. He made me a killer margarita — I will definitely be back for another! There was a decent band playing a mix of originals and covers which made for good entertainment! Personally, I love a good dive bar — and even though I don’t smoke I could definitely see myself becoming a regular here!

We come here every so often when we’re in town, and a good time is always had. It’s a small and cozy place with a punk-rock/hippie vibe that has established itself as a staple of New Hope. Having said that, it’s also divey and skeevy, but I think that’s the charm of the place! The bathrooms are always gross, with years of writing and band stickers on the walls… a testament to its history. The live music is always AMAZING, which makes up for its skeevy-ness(ha). Saturday nights are always packed, and it seems to attract locals, regulars and tourists, so you get an interesting crowd. And the drinks are what you’d expect from a divey place; nothing grand, but gets the job done! The staff is always friendly and quick on their feet. In the summer they open the outdoors which is right off of Main Street. The only thing I don’t like about J&P’s(and hence my 3 stars) is it somehow bypassed the no-smoking law(I guess it was grandfathered in), so just about everyone inside smokes. My boyfriend loves this place, so if it weren’t for him I’d probably never come just because of that. As a non-smoker, the mornings after J&P’s are usually complete with sore throats, headaches, and your clothes wreak. I can be a diva at times though. Finally, this isn’t a place you eat at, nor would you want to, in my opinion. Unless you are wasted and it is the only place open in town. But they’re not tryin to be a fine-dining type of place anyway. I’d say go at least once for the drinks, live music, and company-it’s worth the experience!

One of the best things about New Hope is there are lots of places like this. Divey and full of surprises. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Best Burger in Town? Hardly, I’ve had better fried burgers at Wendy’s. The Kobe burger was a huge disappointment as were the wasabi teriyaki wings and my $ 6 draft land shark was served in a 12 oz. plastic cup — pretty standard for the area but still lame. I’d skip this place.

My boyfriend and I ate here when we visited New Hope for my birthday and we had an amazing time! My boyfriend was particularly happy that they allow smoking, and I was happy that it was an 18+ establishment and no children were allowed. Don’t get me wrong, kids are fine, but it’s nice to see that some places realize that not every place needs to be(or should be) kid-friendly. The food was to die for, and the guy who was our server was an absolute delight. Not only was he funny, but when there was a sudden deluge of rain as we were getting ready to leave, without a second thought he lent us an umbrella to use as we walked up and down Main Street! We returned it once it stopped raining, of course.

Worst service I have ever had!!! Do not stop here if you plan on EATING. We sat for an hour and 45 min after ordering and the server kept acting surprised to see us everytime he saw us — terrible service, smh, drove all the way from Philly to only find this amateur hour.

Gotta love J&P’s: the EPITOME of dive bar. But as divey as it is, the talent that walks through John and Peter’s is far from it. I’ve seen some amazing gigs there, from spontaneous acts that walk on stage for their Monday night open mic to pretty swinging bands over the weekend. Musicians like George Thorogood, Norah Jones, WEEN, Tiny Tim(lolz), have all called J&P’s home at one point or another. Even talents such as Penn & Teller have left hand prints on John & Pete’s heart. As for food, service, and prices — John & Peter’s is pretty standard. $ 5 cover if there is live entertainment, although open mic nights are free(donation bins make their rounds however), and a basic beer/drink is essentially $ 4. The servers/bartenders there feel like old friends and rest assured, they’ll be asking you if you want another drink before you actually NEED another drink. Yep, just like old friends. I do suggest seating in John and Peter’s outside area if you can. Inside is like a sauna filled with second-hand smoke and mind you, I am one of those polluters. Yet regardless of harmful inhalations, outside simply makes more sense: a) fresh air b) more room, and c) QUICKERDRINKACCESS. The only downside is that you cannot see or hear the live entertainment. Damn you catch 22’s!

Ever since quitting smoking after almost 13 years of it, I’m surprised to find that I’ve become everything I ever hated. I’m now a HUGE pussy when it comes to having to sit in a fallout cloud of recycled tobacco for a couple of hours. The main bar area of John & Peter’s is tiny, everybody is smoking their faces off and the roof is 8ft high — if this sounds like something you’re not prepared to deal with, don’t come here. On the other hand, if you can quit being such a goddamn pussy for 5 minutes and get yourself a pitcher of Yuengling, John & Peter’s is a really great place.

My husband had the wings, and I had an awesome pulled pork sandwich. It was really cute, kind of like a pub/music joint place. The waiter and staff were really nice. It seems like it would be a good place to come see a band, maybe in the summer.

There’s nothing like a nice lunch outside when the sun is shining and the pleasant people are out enjoying the weather. Such was my experience at John & Peter’s which, despite its dive-ish interior, has a nice outdoor seating area with a bar and music. I should point out that my review in no way includes the inside area, as I only went inside to use the bathroom. The outside had just opened two days earlier, so the beer taps were not yet connected, but there is an ample selection of bottled beers and spirits. The food is American fare with a decent variety of Boar’s Head sandwiches, burgers, and other staples. I had the kobe burger with guacamole and it was delicious. The beef was cooked exactly they way I like(medium-rare), and the guacamole was as gloriously mediocre as I could have hoped. I also had a cup of chili that I wish had come before my burger, but was quite satisfying nonetheless. It’s hard for any establishment to stand out along the crowded streets of New Hope, but this one does just fine. If easy American cuisine is what you’re after, John & Peter’s will not disappoint. P. S. They DO allow smoking in the outside section(don’t know about the inside), which is a turn-off for many people.
