Master stylists Albert Brown and his sister Margaret Brown have been active in the beauty industry for over 50 years. I had a Brazilian blowout with Arthur last week. In my 6 years of blowouts, Arthur’s has been the best thus far. I’ve washed my hair twice now since the blowout and my hair remains effortless to wear down in this awful humidity! I’ve been naturally drying, too.
In addition to the awesome blowout, everyone was so friendly and fun. I even met Albert himself, who thanked me many times for trying his salon. They even offered to get me food since I would be there for two hours– which is hardly a long time for a Brazilian blowout. The salon itself is very peaceful, too.
I cannot say enough good things about the service and salon!

I have gone to Kelly for the last 3 ½ years and I must say she is absolutely amazing. When I first went to see her my hair was a mess from a previous hairdresser who had just completely fried my hair. As you all know it is so hard to find a really good hairdresser that wants to help you feel and look your best. The first time I went to her, she knew exactly what color would be best for me and took her time, which I love because I know it’s getting done the right way. It was a process, but I must say my hair is the healthiest it has ever been and I would never trust anyone else with my hair. I moved to California 2 years ago and fly back just to have her cut and color my hair. She also does my extensions (and no I don’t need them because my hair is so healthy, I just love to have them). The best extensions I’ve ever had. Not only does no one ever know it’s not my hair, but I get so many compliments about how beautiful it looks. When she transferred to the Albert Brown Salon I was really thrilled. I’ve heard so many great things about this place and it definitely lives up to its standard. Great vibe, extremely welcoming/​friendly staff, who are all creative and very talented. I really can’t say enough about this place or about Kelly. She really is the best hairstylist I’ve ever been to! If you are in need of a fresh style, new stylist, or just want to feel extra gorgeous, I urge you to go see Kelly! :)

I was encouraged to come to this salon based on some great work Kelly the stylist had done on one of her clients. I needed someone skilled to playfully and artfully color correct some yellowness in my hair left from another stylist. Kelly suggested a product called Oleoplex but honestly after the amount of time she spent conditioning my dry air and color correcting my hair I am not happy with the way my hair feels nor convinced that Oleoplex is going to work for all damaged and textured hair like me. It certainly is not Kelly’s fault she did try her best but I simply don’t feel a connection here. The salon caters to more «coservative» styles and Little old ladies. Truly I don’t mean to sound cruel but I have had funkier colors in the past in Chicago and all the salons with the exception of Star dust Salon have been lacking. They will offer you coffee or water and you will end up spending a good couple hours here for a color correction but it wasn’t quite the fun color I was promised or hoping for. I won’t be back sorry. I think from now on I will save my money and take trips to Chicago for all my hair coloring needs henceforth. I have been dissappointed enough

I recently had a «20’s» inspired photo shoot with Make Me Up, and they sent me here (right next door to Make Me Up) to get my hair done all fancy.
They decided that they wanted to put a finger wave in my hair, which is apparently pretty complicated. It consists of putting a «wet set» in the hair, forming the waves with your fingers, setting it with hair gel and then sitting under a hair dryer for over an hour while it sets and dries. Even though the style was hard, my stylist Madeline did a fantastic job. She worked quickly and efficiently to get the waves perfect. The hardest part really was just sitting under that dryer for a really long time while it dried and set.
She did such a good job, that my hair didn’t go anywhere for the rest of the day, and I’m convinced that I probably could have slept on it and wore it the entire next day without it looking any worse for wear.
If you are looking for a «different» or somewhat «complicated» hairstyle, Albert Brown is the place to go.

I met Albert on a film set where he was doing hair for the principals (stars) and about a hundred extras. I’d had a great hair colorist for years; she moved; someone sent me to a famous salon across town and they ruined my hair beyond belief. I vented my woes to Albert and he said «Come see me, darling. I will help you».
I’ve been with Albert for over a decade now. He simply makes my hair look fabulous. Women, on a day when you feel fat, old, ugly, and dumb as a stump, having incredibly gorgeous hair is your saving grace! They are friendly, kind, expert, and, very important, they listen: if you say «Cut no more than 3 inches» they won’t remove 6 inches. They will do exactly as you requested. Albert Brown Salon has been my only experience where this happens. I will never go to anyone else but Albert and his terrific staff.

Quite possibly the worst haircut I’ve ever received. I have a simple and very routine hair style and for the stylist to put such little effort into a buzz cut blows my mind. The main reason I came to Albert Browns was because people around magazine st. Told me it was a very nice place… They were wrong. Thanks for the botched buzz cut and screwed up beard line… Never again

There’s a lady who works here. Her name is Madeline. If she was cutting hair in a back alley, I’d pull up a trash can.
But thankfully, Madeline doesn’t cut hair in a back alley. She cuts her hair in this delightful time-​warp of a salon that can also rent you costume jewelry and help you out with microdermabrasion and all sorts of other things.
I just get my hair cut there, though. It always looks incredible. Not because I have incredible hair. My hair is thick and unwieldy and prematurely grey. It’s because Madeline always does such a good job. I go in looking like a Sasquatch and come out looking like George Clooney. Also, she will wash your hair and you will fall asleep it is so relaxing and pleasant.

I followed my hair guru Madeline Brown here from her previous salon, and have never looked back. The staff is as sweet as honey, and are genuinely happy to see me each time I come in.
Albert himself is a total Southern gentleman, usually charming the pants off of whoever he is working his magic on that day.
And Madeline is a crazy talented hair sorceress that helped me to grow my hair out over the course of a year. She always has new products in to dazzle me with each time I’m in, and get this — she even gives me books to read! I’d follow this girl to the ends of the earth, but am pleased as a peach that she calls the Albert Brown Salon home.
Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this whole crew. Go. You won’t regret it.

I’m so bitter about my experience here I don’t know where to start. I guess I’ll start by saying I mistakenly walked in here wanting to get my hair done for my wedding. Not being from town I guess I should have done my research. First off Alberts salon doesn’t have a set price. The price for an updo is $ 65 and up (other bridal services do the same better job for 50 flat rate). If you want them on location it’s quite more expensive (about 20 dollars more if i remember correctly). And so i decided that me and my wedding party would go to the salon the day of.
Well it ended up that they arbitrarily charged everyone $ 80 and up and not even for an updo but a simple braid– even though the only reason i inconvenienced everyone by making them go to the salon was to save a few dollars. Had i known they would have charged the same I would have asked for them to come on location.
My hair was done by Albert and it fell apart without any movement during the ceremony– and i had only gotten my hair done at 2. All my photos are ruined because pieces of hair had fallen down and it just looked like a disaster. For $ 80 I would have expected a hairdo that would last at least an hour during my ceremony. Now all I have are photos with my hair undone on my wedding day– which will last me a lifetime.
If I could go back in time this is the one thing I would have changed. I should have done more research and realized that maybe they can cut and color but they can’t do an updo and they certainly do try to rip you off. My friends couldn’t believe they were charged $ 80 for a braid! Not even a wash or blow dry as we were asked to do that before arriving!!! I’m in rage.

I just had my hair «sculpted» by Arthur and it is the best thing that’s ever happened to my hair. I’m in the process of growing it out and somehow he made it look longer — not to mention super smooth and shiny. I’ve basically been touched by a magician angel.
Also — I got to meet the actual Albert Brown while I was there. He’s real. And awesome.

He has actually moved onto Magazine Street at Louisiana Ave! Albert Brown does my hair for every special event that requires an updo. On my wedding day, my hair barely moved all day and even looked great the next day as well. His ideas are wonderful and will listen if you have an opinion. A little on the pricey side but it is totally worth it.
